Hey there My Blog readers Well today is our last day in Mykonos and we have done and seen a million things....walked our legs off in the maze that is the town of mykonos... (lets just say if there was an arial view we would have looked like two mice stuck in a maze and we were desperately looking for the way out. We would not be the GIFTED mice i would have to say) that was the structure of the town. Lets first talk about the wind of Mykonos. It blows ALL THE TIME. Always straight towards the beach no matter what side of the island you are on...there is no escape. So if i was going for beautiful hair to pick anyone up....it ain't going to happen. Comprende (a little italiano for you). On ... read more

Alright now lets get down to the nitty gritty. I am one bottle of vino and two shots down (one being OUZO) and I am thinking now is the time to talk Greek penis. Now at first read these words may shock some of my audience. But I believe this to be a great forum of which to talk about the underground sexual culture that I believe to be rampant in greece. Now it is from my very limited historic understanding that greek culture has always been somewhat suspect in the area of same sex ual interaction. Having been in the environment for a few days I am the furtherest thing from an authority.... "the stories" of males enjoying the company of one another is pretty common place...(.for those that know me well just chalk this ... read more

I climbed a volcano today. I took a sail boat to the centre of the caldera, the active volcano and climbed the 138 m summit. All there is to walk on is volcanic rock. Everyone had flip-flops but me. Almost no vegetation, all just dark basalt. It would have been really super duper hot, but the wind was strong enough to cool us down as we climbed. This was really quite spectacular, the setting was so picturesque, for a geology teacher that is. Santorini was a complete island in 1500 BC, but the explosion blew most of it apart. The centre islands have since emerged as resurgent domes and eruptions. At the second island they let us off to swim in the hot springs. I stayed on board, but watched as many dived off the side ... read more

I arrived in Santorini along with hundreds of other tourists. We approached the island through the caldera while everyone snapped photos. This place is like a dream. Is this for real? Perched high upon the caldera rim appearing to defy gravity, or at the very least, just waiting for gravity to do its work and pull the whole town of Fira into the sea. But it stays, thankfully, for the tourists. It's hard to describe the mob scene as we departed the ferry boat. Hundreds of people rushing forwards all with packs, suitcases, roller suitcases, motorcycles. We are at the base of the cliff, dramatically announcing itself as a shear wall of volcanic rock, layered red, black, and grey. I walk into the crowd of domatia, those raptious owners of pensions who want us to stay ... read more

I fell asleep rather quickly last night. The gentle rolling of the boat actually felt relaxing. I think if I had had a few more beers it might not have proven very therapeutic because the seas felt rather rough. At about 2:00 am I was awoken by a loud part going on somewhere near our cabin. What had been such a quiet area during my daytime snooze was now sounding like a convention was going on next door. It sounded like a bunch of kids sitting around BS'ing. There wasn't piercing music or the sounds of dancing, but they would talk quietly for maybe a minute or two then erupt in loud laughter. I couldn't understand what they were saying and never could determine if they were speaking English. They were just annoying. I finally stuffed ... read more

Here I am in the Aegean, the blue waters, blue skies, the heat and the wind. The ladies really do mob you as you depart the ferry. I took the first room offered, it was so much more than the hostel in Athens; anything would have been more inviting than that hostel in Athens. Ah, those drunken Aussies, and their path of destruction. I watched as one sat on a sink, it collapsed, he fell on top of the porcelein and cut himself badly. He went to the hospital and I never saw him again. The ferry ride was nearly 7 hours leisurely cruising the Aegean with many locals and backpackers. The Port of Piraeas is every bit as confusing, congested and for it's charm, a touch of the Third World. I stepped off the modern ... read more

I think Jurgen is even more excited than the rest of us going on the cruise. He had us up early and ready to board the bus at 8:00 am even though the ship wasn't scheduled to leave from Piraeus (less than half an hour away) until 11:00. After another nice breakfast buffet we said goodbye to the folks that were skipping the cruise and staying another day in Athens. Boarding the bus to Piraeus was pretty nice since each one of us had our own row of seats. I don't know if our bus driver (not Niko) was confused or lost but it took us almost 45 minutes to get there. Good thing Jurgen got us up early. He was in rare form this morning. He regaled us with a couple X-rated tour guide stories ... read more

Once we checked in to the Andromeda Villas, we were able to relax a bit. The accomodation, though having a slightly spartan feel, was comfy, and the views, well just look at the photos. You hear everyone talking about it, but you can't really appreciate Santorini unless you go there. We were staying in the area called Imerovigli, the highest point. We were on the cliff face, looking straight out towards the setting sun.... read more

We've spent the last few days here in Mykonos with M.'s friends. We arrived in Mykonos around 8PM on Monday July 3rd, immediately felt better as the temperature was at least 20 degrees cooler than it had been in Cyprus. Also our bags made it on the same flight! It was an adventure just getting there as our flight from Cyprus had left 20 minutes late, only giving us about 50 minutes to connect in Athens, including busing from the remote stand and standing in line to get our boarding passes. M's friends S&V were there at the airport to pick us up; they were spending two weeks in Mykonos and had already been there for a few days. They took us by our hotel, the Palladium, which turned out to be a five minute walk ... read more
