Europe » Germany » Bavaria August 7th 1987

As we had already done some travel this year and we would be going back to the States for Christmas. Besides, Linda was due to deliver our second child, Rosanna, in October. So we decided for our summer vaction to take a trip where we could stay in one place for a week. We hadn't been to Lake Chiemsee, south of Munich and at the base of the German Alps, since 1978 so I checked into what we could do there. I found out the the Armed Forces Recreation Center offered a six day "Learn to Sail" week with Red Cross Certification. Linda didn't think she would be able to do any sailing, but was more than pleased to be able to relax around the hotel. Besides, we could explore the countryside after my lessons, much ... read more

An Excerpt from the Travel Journal of Nigel Fox (c. 1945) Entry 32 -- An Extraordinary Parley The Armanenschaft believed that the death of an individual was a tragedy, but the deaths of a millions of people was merely a statistic. When it come to the Holocaust is hard to express the magnitude of the evil that has been done. This extermination process was carried out on a regular basis during the final years of the war. The efficiency and massive scale of the genocidal procedure perpetrated with the help of modern technology staggers the imagination. The wasteful tragedy must be multiplied by millions. The Two witnesses I too had suffered personal loss. It had been confirmed that my old and dear friend Pastor Hans Hoff was dead. He was condemned to death on April 8, ... read more

An Excerpt from the Travel Journal of Rev. H. Nigel Fox Entry 24 - The Confessing Church There are some women who, in saintly fashion, can bare any ordeal with stoic calm. My Norah however did not fall into this category of person. She had first burst into a passion of weeping, being fairly devastated by the fact that her life's work was no more; then her passion cooled into a dark anger, a vindictiveness, so very black and terrible, that I feared for her immortal soul. "Who could have done such a dastardly thing?" Norah asked, in a wretched tone that was truly unsettling. Hans paused for a moment as we entered the taxicab, then said in a low voice, "Armanenshaft!" "Who the devil are they?" asked Norah, her countenance changing. "The Devil is right!" ... read more

An Excerpt from the Travel Journal of Nigel Fox circa 1925 Entry 16 -- The Putsch "As head of the Triumvirate, I am your true leader. In many influential circles there are those who believe that the restoration of a strong state will be sufficient. I say no, a thousand times no . . . " The politician's speech droned on. He was totally unaware of the revolution that was unfolding around him. Oberland troops surrounded the hall and the auditorium itself was infiltrated. Many of the government security forces were loyal to the Kampfbund. Hans’ simple plan was working perfectly. "Again I say no, a thousand times no. Even the strongest man empowered with the greatest authority cannot save the nation without the energy and enthusiasm of the people. Were we to attempt to lead ... read more

An Excerpt from the Travel Journal of Nigel Fox circa 1925 Entry 15 -- The Kampfbund After being raised to the sixth degree, Hans was required to travel the globe for his duties had been greatly expanded. Whenever a new tour was being developed Hans was expected to experience it first hand to ensure that it lived up to the company's exacting standards. Hans had also learned a great deal about the HAO (Hoher Armanen Orden). To-day's meeting was to be profoundly important and there was an air of intensity in the room. Each brother spoke in turn. Hardly an articulate lot, they tended to be somewhat melodramatic and stilted in speech. " . . . the King of the Jews and his followers are the swine of the earth," continued Brother Joseph, a deacon from ... read more

Europe » Germany September 15th 1985

Our next NATO Infrastructure Committee visit was to West Germany. By now Linda was over her morning sickness, and at five months she was showing her pregnancy. This was a good thing for her as the German escort officers were very considerate of her condition. Everywhere we went they found her a seat, and brought whatever she needed to her. 15 September 1985 Sunday. We all met at the Melsbroek Belgian military airbase at 9 am where we then boarded a German military transport aircraft for the short flight to the military side of the Koln-Wahn airfield. We were greeted by our German hosts from the Ministry of Defense. We then boarded buses for a sightseeing tour of Bonn and the Rhine River towns in the immediate vicinity of Bonn. We were then taken to our ... read more

Europe » Germany » Berlin » Berlin September 13th 1980

In September 1980 I attended a conference in Berlin, and decided to take Linda along. To get there by car we had to pass through East Germany, which required flag orders under the agreement that partitioned Berlin into four zones, one each for the US, UK, France and the Soviet Union. The Soviets were required to grant access to the other three countries forces following the Berlin Blockade. Crossing the border was interesting. We had to give our passport and papers to the Soviet border guards, not to the East German guards. We then had two hours to reach West Berlin. We could only drive on the autobahn that went directly to Berlin, which was built by Hitler and had not been maintained since. If we didn't arrive in Berlin within two hours they would come ... read more

Europe » Germany » Baden-Württemberg » Boblingen March 1st 1980

From 1 March 1980 to 13 July 1984 we lived in Boblingen near Stuttgart Germany. I was offered a job as Technical Advisor at the headquarters of the U.S. European Command at Patch Barracks in Vaihingen, on the southern outskirts of Stuttgart. So on 1 March 1980 we packed up our possessions and drove from Glan Munchweiler to Stuttgart. We lived in a hotel in Vaihingen until we found an apartment in Boblingen, a ten minute drive on a forested road from Patch Barracks. Our apartment occupied the second floor and a Yugoslav family, whose husband worked at the Mercedes Benz factory, was on the first. Our landlady lived on the third floor. She only spoke the Schwabian dialect of German. So that we could communicate with her, we took another conversational German course, but gave ... read more

Europe » Germany » Baden-Württemberg » Sigmaringen January 2nd 1980

The town of Sigmaringen (pop:. 17,000) enjoys a fantastic location: It lies right on river Danube on the edge of the Swabian Jura and is an entry point for Upper Swabia. Even the Celts recognized this locational advantage: they settled here from about 1,000 BC until the Romans arrived. By the year 50 BC the Romans had already established here a hub with 3 important Roman routes going through this town. From about 260 AD on the Alamanni replaced the Romans. In the year 1290 AD Sigmaringen was sold to the Habsburgs of Austria and in 1534 AD it became part of the (later) principality of Hohenzollern . The most obvious attraction of Sigmaringen is its castle from 1535 AD. In 1895-99, after a terrible fire, it was reconstructed. Another very negative time for the castle ... read more

Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Bernau am Chiemsee August 5th 1978

In August 1978 I had another business trip to a conference with the German Ministry of Defense officials at the Armed Forces Recreation Center on the southern shore of Lake Chiemsee. This was one of many former Nazi resorts taken over by U.S. forces. Again, during the day I had meetings, but afterwards Rich (a colleague who would also become a lifelong friend along with his wife Judy), Linda and I would tour the countryside between the lake and the German Alps. We would find a nice restaurant during our travels, and enjoy delicious schnitzel, sauerbraten, strudel and beer. On another day we took a boat out to Herrenchiemsee Island to see King Ludwig II castle by the same name. The castle was modeled upon King Loius XIV's Versailles. Our conference was cut short because our ... read more
