Hi!!!! Well...as you already know I will be leaving to Germany in 17 days! I still have many things to pack and buy. My mom is nervous but happy, and "little" Ivan says he can't wait for me to leave! I know he'll miss me just as much as I'll miss him, no matter what he says now! Who's going to cover up for him? who's going to do all the chores, who's going to bother him? poor child. I've been writing e-mails with my host-sister. She's very nice and seems very excited too!Her name is Carina but she told me I can call her Rine. She tells me that her friends and family are really looking forward to meet me! So I am! Her little sister, Julia, seems to be a very sweet girl. She ... read more

(Note: This entry should have been posted before 'Would you like some tea?') G'dancing from South Brent to Kazoo Tczew is to kazoo as Gdansk is to prancing-you! I am cuddling a cup of tea and listening to eighties pop music (bless him, ol' Rod Stewart) behind the front desk of our fleabag hotel in Gdansk, Poland. Last night we slept in Tczew, (which in Polish is pronounced 'tuh-chev', rather than 'to kazoo' as it looks) and now we're go-go dancers in Gdansk. What a wide week it's been. Rich is snoring sound asleep upstairs in one of the beds in what is the last available hotel room in this entire town, we believe after a period of research deemed entirely too thorough from the point of view of Richard's three-blistered feet. (I give thanks to ... read more

On Saturday evening, April 29, my friend Jim and I departed LAX (Los Angeles International Airport) to begin our "European Vacation." Almost 24 hours later we would reach our initial destination of Hannover, Germany. Our actual travel time, however, was only 15 hours (including a layover in London). The remaining 9 hours resulted from the jump from Los Angeles' time zone to Germany's time zone. The journey itself was fairly comfortable - the longest leg of the trip was a 10 hour flight on American Airlines from Los Angeles to London. The second leg (London to Hannover) was a really quck one. After arriving at the Hannover airport around 8:00 p.m., Jim and I picked up our rental car, checked into our hotel room, and proceeded to head over to the bug show. No time for ... read more

The other Aussies and I decided to go to Hannover for a day using the group train ticket, we got to Hannover and back for less than 5 Euro each! We were like the blind leading the blind that day because none of us had really checked what there is to do at Hannover, the tourist information centre was closed when we arrived and it was just too cold to think. So we pretty much just walked around hoping to stumble onto something interesting and surely enough we discovered the ‘red thread’. Basically a red line that you follow through Hannover to all the major sights, it was evidently made for tourists just like us! The most interesting sight was the Hannover Town Hall (or as the Germans would say, Rathaus). The building itself was impressive ... read more

Hanover was our first day trip in germany, using the awesome niedersachsen ticket, 5 people 24euro anywhere in niedersachsen... ROCK ON In hannover we found some cool buildings particularly the town hall, and a couple of neat churches.. Being winter when we went it was cold and the gardens we went to see were bare, althought the leafless hedges were nice... The town hall had an interesting display, it had models showing what the city looked like in the 17 century, before WW2 after, WW2 and today. It was particularly interesting to see the extent to which the city was destroyed by allied bombing during the war. Sorry this entry isnt very long, for now you can check out the pics, and i will write up a more in depth summary of hanover soon. Moin moin.. ... read more

Quand on ... read more
