13 Days left, then it's off on a ten hour flight to New York! Impossible to concentrate on Christmas and New Year now! I still can't believe we are doing this. Why on earth should somebody go on a road trip through the US, in no more than three weeks, in a minute car, in January? Well the answer is simple really: the flights were cheap. We still need sd-cards, compression stockings, adapters, rain coats and many more... It is freezing cold and snowing madly in the northern hemisphere... I'm getting kind of nervous! Olly is of course relaxed as can be. I wish now I were on his medication! Well, this is our very first blog. We will be keeping family, friends and anyone who is interested up to date about our little big adventure ... read more

Day 18: Thursday, July 9, 2009BRUSSELS, BELGIUMAs mentioned in my last blog, I had wanted to head north to Hannover, Germany from France, but couldn't get on the train I wanted. So last night I headed to Brussels instead. So that's where I find myself this morning. I'd been to Brussels before (twice), so had no desire to explore. My objective now was to get to Hannover, Germany.I stayed at the Capital Brussels (EC Hotel) last night. Nice hotel. If taking train to Brussels, it's a good place to stay. I mainly picked it for it's proximity to the train station (it's right across the street).Got an early start and was at the train station by 6:49 am. Wanted to make sure I got to Hannover, Germany today. In the train station there were displays of ... read more

Tag Yesterday was quite the travel day, we said good bye to all our praha friends and I personally teared up and said I will return. Anyways Ive noticed my grammer and pretty much use of the english language has fallen off the chart I#m just a blur of languages now but back to my story. We left Praha yesterday morning and arrived in Berlin I wanted to stay but chris wanted to go get closer to London so we ended up in Hannover which at first looked like quite the dive but after staying the downtown section instead of little turkey where everyone and their dog has a salon we found a nice hotel and beer hall and downed a couple liters of lowenbrau. Well I got to go train for Amsterdam is leaving in ... read more

Zoom, zoom, ..... zoom................zoom. One flash car after the other speeds down the A2 from Hannover to Berlin past us. There's a black Porsche, a silver BMW station wagon. Right behind them comes a green Skoda filled with kids and a dog in the back. More black cars; a Mini, another BMW, a Mercedes sports edition, an Audi A6. We sit in the middle lane of three; the right is for trucks and Warmduscher, losers; the middle for normal people; and the left is for those with the need for speed. For those of you who may not know, losts of Autobahnen, freeways, are still speed-unlimited. You can go as fast as your machine will take you, but you have to go at least 60km/h, otherwise you get fined. Trucks are often allowed only in the ... read more

Its a funny thing to come back to a place; you can leave it for years and years, and fail to give it any thought, yet when you do return, there's an instant connection. Things inevitably change in you, and there's bugger all you can do to stop it. Once you are back, you are back. I find myself reflecting on things I normally over look. Small things, little things. The colour of the leaf of a rose bush; the feel of the road as you drive along; the kind of look people are sporting in the supermarket. Most of all, I keep coming back to togetherness. I'm with my sister and my mother 24/7, we are constantly surrounded by old friends and family, and there's always something going on or about to take place. At ... read more

I'm restless all morning from when the day light begins to stream through the slits in the heavy outdoor blinds. I keep picking up my phone to calculate what time it is, but I cannot remember whether to add or subtract eight hours. 6am or 9am? I don't know and am unlikely to figure it out unless I find another clock, but I keep checking every ten minutes as though I might miraculously find an answer. I get up. I have to fiqure out the time. I've been nervous since last night because it's mothers' day today, and we don't have any flowers for mum yet. All the way from Braunschweig to Hannover last night, I was scanning the shop fronts and petrol stations in the hope of finding a bunch of flowers; not that I ... read more
