Geo: 50.0924, 8.68195Actually had a good nights sleep for once, but still woke up at 4.12am. So checked Facebook, emails, same old office stuff!! About 6.30, woke Clint and then once again, jumped out of bed for showers and breakfast. We got to the breakfast room and there was so many people there and we had to wait for a table. A lady made room for us at her table and we sat down and got breakfast. We got ready to go to the trade fair, and then we walked to the tram stop across the road to catch the No 16 tram to the fair. We travelled 4 stops then half the people on the tram got off!! Clint raced to the line up, so excited he was actually here! Today, Nikki was experiencing her ... read more

Geo: 50.0924, 8.68195One of these days, I'm going to get a decent night sleep, still having trouble sleeping, and it doesn't help when 2 people snore! We had showers, and we went to the ground floor for breakfast, all we seem to do is eat!! The breakfast was included in this hotel, once again, there is so many choices, breads, croissants, cereals and yogurts, fruits, jams, sliced meats and as always, coffee!!Our next train to Frankfurt is at 10.00am, so instead of having to go back to get our bags, we took them with us. Today we are leaving Switzerland and heading to Germany. As we are going to a different country, I thought we would need to get our passports stamped, but no sign of any customs place. As we were early, our train time wasn't ... read more

Airplane travel is nature's way of making you look like your passport photo - Al Gore Greetings from Frankfurt! We are in the Goethe bar enjoying a Paulaner Hefeweizen before our flight to Cairo. The flight from Vancouver was uneventful, as you want air travel to be. It was fairly pleasant in my window seat until the guy in front of me moved his seat all the way back. So then, with my monitor two inches from my face, I had no choice but to move my seat back too, to the annoyance of the person seated behind me. Ah well. As usual I couldn't sleep on the flight, but I watched 3 movies. It's just after 12:30 pm here local time, 3:30 am Vancouver time. Feeling a bit jet lagged now. Unfortunately Lufthansa didn't have ... read more

Yesterday was our last day in Germany! I can’t believe the trip has already come to an end! Let me recap yesterday and then I will give my overall impressions about Germany. Our final excursion of the trip was to the small city of Heidelberg. Heidelberg is about an hour outside of Frankfurt and is known mainly for its castle and its university. I believe that Heidelberg University is one of the oldest universities in Europe and it seems that there have been many prominent scholars who have attended the university, but we didn’t go into too much detail about that on our tour. The main focus of our trip was the castle and the town. The city is mostly a modern city but does have a pretty significant section that has that old world feel ... read more

Oof – a few days behind here, so here is my attempt to catch up. Thursday was crazy. Thursday was our full day at Oktoberfest and it was awesome. Let me go off on a tangent for a second… Go back to 2008 when I was studying abroad in Italy – it was the first few weeks that I was in Europe. I was carefree and obvious, but I had heard that Oktoberfest was a must. I met up with a group of sorority sisters in Munich for the event and I had no clue what I was about to walk into – I hadn’t researched anything about it or really heard an in depth explanation of what Oktoberfest even was – I just knew it involved drinking. My friend from college happened to have a ... read more

Germany is a great country. I first came there few times when I was a kid because my aunt is living in Köln, married to a German and living there. Those times I used to come with family to visit only. The time I'm currently talking about is quite specific. I was on a management training program straight away after my Baccalaureate called manager assistant high school certificate. It is actually in two years. I did each of the internships abroad, the first one in Brussels and after I came back from there I realized everybody there was speaking at least three languages fluently. I can't believe that in France we are already so happy to manage speaking a bit of English ! Anyway I said to my mother I'm so bad in German... and within ... read more

On the TGV now from Paris to Frankfurt, the final stop on this European adventure for our intrepid group of student travelers. It is a quiet coach as everyone sleeps. Many stayed up very late last night talking and reminiscing about the adventures that they have shared, hoping to prolong the experience and delay its inevitable end. It is an interesting mix of emotions as they prepare to depart for home. Everyone is looking forward to reuniting with families, even younger siblings, and to regaining access to what they know; the normalcy of life in general. They are also no doubt exhausted from our epic journey in Paris. It was four days of absolute non stop brilliance. We visited museums like the Orsay with its incredible impressionists, the Louvre with its enormous collection of paintings like ... read more

Each exchange, Heidi and I create awards for the students. These are meant to be fun and light hearted ways to remember the trip and some of the funny things have occurred. We met as a group this evening to hand them out. Here are the awards for 2016! Enjoy! Ben Tsuffis Award: Not sure they wanted to be here when we arrived, but most definitely sure they wanted to stay when it was time to go! He made a true connection to the country and family in which he stayed and was truly impacted by the experience! Winner: Brodie Rookhuyzen Most Like Partner: Switch 'Em in the fall and their classmates wouldn't even know the difference! A great match who will no doubt remain great friends. Winner: Holly Bombatch Fan Club Status: The German paparazzi ... read more
