Today in Berlin I decided to take the day to get to explore a small portion of the Historical part of Berlin. Around 10:30am I went to Alexander Platz and joined in a bicycle tour that took us to several historical landmarks that Berlin has to offer- The Berlin Wall (East Side Gallery) and The Soviet War Memorial located in the Treptow district of Berlin. Seeing the height of the wall made me wonder as to how people would attempt to jump over the wall and it made me realize that those who did cross, risked their life and imprisonment. Scenic views such as these are great places to spend the day admiring the past and and realizing the mass change that has occurred in the past decades. Before I begin I should tell you that I LOVE flying! I love the feeling of the plane speeding up and lifting off. I am so weird I actually enjoy some turbulence while flying - just to remind me that it is an amazing feat of engineering that we are thousands of feet in the air! I was the only person in our section of the plan taking pictures out the window of the plane--- I did get a few odd looks in my direction. Oh well! This is a once in a lifetime experience and I want to document it all! Despite all the excitement I have to say- the flight was brutal! We flew straight from LAX to Munich without a stop. Day 2 Berlin, Bikes, and Babes But first, I did get my backpack luggage that missed the short connection in Munich. It was delivered in the middle of the night. Thank god. Berlin is very beautiful. I was and am struck by the wide sidewalks. Clearly, Berliners are meant to walk around instead of driving in their cars, unlike in LA. The sidewalks are bigger than the streets, and I could spend many happy hours just walking around on the large sidewalks in part because so many Berliners are out and about walking around as well. Everything is clean with a lot of lush greens. It's fun to read the German signs and I remember a building from my time here 10 years ago. The germans working the front desk at the hostel are nice. Finalement Berlin, après une annulation dernière minute de celle qui devait nous louer son appartement via airbnb et un voyage en train des plus rocambolesque (3.5 heures debout dans l'allée, ou, plus confortable (not), assis sur notre sac-à-dos, dans l'allée.. sans compté le retard de 2 heures), .... disons que ca commençait plutôt mal le séjour Allemand! Mais on a vite fait de se remettre sur pied, en commençant par souligner l'anniversaire de Jean-Philippe en compagnie d'un couple d'amis. Un 7 jours pendant lesquelles je fût frappée par la force d'une histoire bouleversante d'il n'y a pas si longtemps et la découverte de plusieurs recoins très hipster-cute pour mon plus grand plaisir.
