After no sleep in my hostel due to people talking and turning lights on and off at all hours of the night, I got up at 4:50 to catch a cab 10 minutes to the international train station as I couldn't walk there with how heavy my bag now is. I fell over trying to get it on my right shoulder, so I tried my left, which was more of a disaster as it overbalanced and fell forward over my head...on the floor squeeking as I try and extricate myself from the straps and still not wake people up I decide to lay it on the floor, then get into the straps and then use the bed to pull myself up, at at same time in a panic as I am now late and need to ... read more

It took Elysia longer to get home from work on Thursday than it took us to travel from London to Paris Friday morning on the Eurostar. We left London's St Pancras International train station at 05:40 (bright and early!) and were in Paris just after nine. While we had a scenic view of the English country side and a neat experience to take the chunnel (you are actually only under the water for about 20 minutes), the best part of the day was definitely waiting for us in Paris! Paris is, well, Paris. In other words, breathtaking. After taking the metro across La Seine, we found our way to the apartment we were staying in for the weekend. Our good friend from school, Hannah, had kindly invited us to stay with her and two other friends ... read more

Bonjour from Paris! Jo and I arrived here two days ago via night train. We didn't sleep a ton because we made stops continuously throughout the night to pick up more passengers. Already with little sleep, we navigated the streets and bumped into feisty Parisians who at first left a bitter taste in my mouth (and not to mention the air with how much they smoke). We explored the islands of the Seine river, saw Notre Dame and St. Chapels. At night we drank a bottle of French wine and watched the Eiffel tower sparkle. On the way home we had to stop for a chocolate crepe : ) The following day we had a chocolate croissant for breakfast, walked through the gardens of Luxembourg, and trampled through the caves beneath the city that house the ... read more

The trip has been nothing like I expected. From the minute I stepped on the plane in Seattle (the first leg of my international flight) it was one surprise after another. I never would have thought that I'd crave airplane food, but when there isn't an option of having any, you start drooling for some. I guess it's just one more thing to thank the failing economy for: the lack of free food on an international flight. Merci au monde! With little sleep, frustrated after having missed nearly two flights, my arrival in Paris was nothing short of a relief. I ride the train in, where I must say Parisians have found an art of seeing everything without actually looking at anything. Gare de Nord was nothing like the Hollywood movie Hugo made it out to ... read more

Note: All the events described in this entry occurred in September 2006. For more updated entries and trips, please refer back to this page in the future. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy living in Dijon, I can't say that enough I feel. It's really a great city, however my family and I spent thousands of dollars for me to be here for 9 months, so I wanted use as much of my free time as possible towards travel. One of the first places I visited was Paris. During the first week of September, I had gone to visit a small town called Besancon, the capital of the Franche-Compte region. I had spent the day there, admiring the Citadel (a 17th century fortress which is now like a little theme park similar to Castle Island ... read more

So we made it to Paris it was a bit of an effort, even with good packing we still have 2 big bags, 3 small bags and a pram (which makes a good trolley when Charlie is in the baby carrier!). so with really only one day for David (Paul´s brother) to do the sites of Paris. Our first stop was the wonderful Effiel tower, the long was amazingly short! Less than 10 minutes and we had our tickets and less than 5 minutes and we are in the lift on our way up! This may have been due to a breast cancer awareness fun run that was starting near the tower and drove most of the tourists away. After the tower we headed to the Lourve, the line up was incredibly long (probably because the ... read more

Day One: Ok so it now has been 2 days here and we have had our good times and our not so good times. It all started at 4pm from Dresden when we couldnt figure which was our bus, but that was not too hard in the end! We boarded the bus and headed first to Berlin to catch our next bus. The itinerary said we were going to arrive in Berlin at 6:35pm and our next bus was at 7pm. When we got closer we noticed that we were getting into traffic and the time was getting closer to our due time!! By the time we finally arrived it was 7:05pm and were freaking but we did see our bus there with the sign Paris on it! we grabbed our baggage as quick as possible ... read more

Paris. How do I describe it.... After a 6 plus hour bus ride from the Hague, what could I possibly expect. Well, it was a rude awakening at 6a.m. I got in to the metro station, and well it smelled like a sewer leak, first impression, not good. After taking a quick metro ride I decided I had enough and that I would just get out and start looking. I knew kinda where I was and figured I'd walk to Notre Dame, and then maybe see some nearby sites before making it the The L'ouvre. The plan was successful. I got to Notre Dame before any crowds (and before it opened), thus affording me the ability to just take it all in. It is quite an impressive building as the pictures indicate. I never made it ... read more
