After reading up on the best things to do in Copenhagen I was excited to start the day. I walked over the Inderhavnsboen onto the island of Christianshavn. I found a market area and bought some porridge with almonds, apple and caramel for breakfast. From here I walked to the Freetown of Christiania. This area was settled by squatters in 1971 and has drawn non-conformists from across the globe who were attracted to the concept of collective businesses and communal living. It certainly was an interesting place to walk around with its artistic graffiti and dealers on "pusher street" - it was like stepping into another world. It considers itself to not be a part of the EU. Stepping back into civilisation as we know it .... I decided to head to the spot I had ... read more

After a great breakfast at the Scandic Hotel I was ready to explore the town whilst at the same time tracking down some of the buildings and main features from the TV series 'The Bridge'. First on my agenda was to find the building that was the police station in the show. This mission took me on a 20 minute walk through the town but I was able to find it, after ducking for cover when the rain came pounding down! After this rain shower the skies cleared and it was a beautiful day. After taking a few photos I headed back to the old town to check out of the hotel. I left my luggage in storage and my next mission was to walk to the Strand Hotel where Saga (the main female character) stayed ... read more

Our circumstances have altered rather remarkedly following the hop across the pond. Funny how a little bit of Europe does that for us. We love these folks, their culture and architecture. Also the weather has been awesome. Seventies each day and mostly sunny. How folks in the north countries love their summer; they are out everywhere. Of course, they will pay for this dearly six months hence. But for now they have plenty of sunlight and revel in it. In fact, at midnight there is a bit of light (just a bit), while at 2:30 am it is quite bright. And we are not even yet at the higher latitudes. One humorous encounter to report. We were laboring to decipher the metro self-help machine in Copenhagen (no offices available) when a gentleman offered to assist. Yet ... read more

It was early afternoon as our flight approached Copenhagen. We had left Rome behind a few hours earlier, and with it some sweltering weather, or so we thought. Apparently most of Europe was experiencing a heatwave, and Denmark was no exception. My brother Shawn had been to Copenhagen just last year, while my last visit was four years ago. Not too shabby considering the previous time before that had been about seventeen years. I've always loved visiting Copenhagen, and I really think this could be one of my favourite cities on this planet (from those that I've visited). I was excited to see how this visit would unfold. We touched down and then quickly exited the airport. We then took the train towards the central train station. Ronny, our uncle, has been living in Denmark twenty ... read more

Does Size Matter? Tuesday. After a good sleep, I was disappointed to find that the water was only tepid for my shower! The water heater seems to be having an off day.We were on the road by 9.30 having paid our €3 parking charge and off loaded the waste water. The motorway is still boring, but the miles are flying past and were soon at the border and cross into Germany where the motorways continue to be monotonous! We have a coffee break late morning and lunch about one and a half hours later. A German lady asked us if she could take a photo of our Dream Catcher name, she like to collect pictures of interesting stickers. She told us that she was travelling to Denmark in her more regular camper.More miles covered at a good rate ... read more

This morning we set out on the 1 day packed itinerary on our App. First up is a canal boat tour. The boat only just squeezes through and under the bridges. In fact we can't go under one bridge because the tide is too high. The tour guide is quite humorous (not as good as me but close). Even though the boat is about 50% Asian he has some beauties. Apparently the Government of China and the Danish government agreed that given the Chinese like the Little Mermaid statue so much they should have it in China for a while......but then they worked out that half the population of China was in Copenhagen anyway so they sent it back!! Boom boom. Copenhagen is beautiful with all the buildings about 4 stories high. After the canal tour ... read more

I have to apologise to my public for being a bit sporadic. It has been gruelling over the last couple of weeks, but now I make a sincere promise to update the blog daily. Today we fly from Casablanca to Copenhagen which is certainly a day of extremes. $10 for a taxi to Casablanca airport, $200 for a taxi to our hotel. $100 for dinner including wine and $2000 for dinner including wine. The day commences without a hitch. We fly Finnair to Copenhagen without an incident and very little turbulence. We arrive late at our hotel which is on the Nyham canal which is one of the prettiest. They have set up Christmas markets along the canal and I'm not sure if it's for tourists or the locals, as there are plenty of both. Finally ... read more
