In Höjer sind ausser dem Wasserturm, der zur Besichtigung freigegeben ist, auch die wunderschönen Reetdachhäuser sehenswert. Interessant sind die zwei Schleusen die gegen das Wattenmeer gerichtet sind und die hohen Wasserstände bei Sturmfluten zurückhalten sollen. Auf diese Weise wird das Hinterland, eigentlich wie in Holland, von den Wassermassen geschützt. Zusätzlich wurden natürlich auch Dämme errichtet von denen man die herrliche Aussicht auf das Wattenmeer geniessen kann. Die ganze zusammenhängende Küste gehört zum UNESCO Weltkulturerbe. Uns wurde angeraten in Tönder, kurz vor Sonnenuntergang, die Formationen der ziehenden Stare zu beobachten (sog. Schwarze Sonne). Die "Wolke" der ziehenden Vögel war allerdings nicht sehr gross. Apologies in advance for the long blog entry. Thursday 30 August 2018 We woke to a wet Copenhagen, the first real sign of rain since we've been in Europe. Vicki has a pretty nasty cold and Wayne is still getting over his. After breakfast at the hotel we caught a taxi to a laundromat in suburban Copenhagen, nothing within walking distance of the hotel. Once there we had a crash course in laundry the Danish way as well trying to break the Da Vinci code that is the Danish language and nothing in the laundromat was in English. Once the washing was on Wayne went for a wander to find some water. Eventually finding a pizza shop with an Italian owner who spoke Italian/Danish but not a word of English Wayne got some water and headed ... read more

Vom Campingplatz in Malmö fuhren wir mit unserem Roller zum Hauptbahnhof. Mit dem Zug gelangten wir in 40 Minuten über die Brücke nach Kopenhagen. Direkt im Bahnhof konnten wir die Tickets für den Hop on Hop off Bus mit Schiffrundfahrt erstehen. Obwohl wir vor einigen Jahren bereits schon einmal die Stadt besuchten, konnten wir wieder viel Neues sehen. Die herrliche Bootstour und das anschliessende Flanieren dem Kanal entlang war beim herrlichsten Wetter der absolute Genuss. Die Entscheidung mit dem Zug zu reisen und das Auto auf dem Campingplatz zu belassen hat sich als absolut richtig erwiesen.... read more

Our first full day in Copenhagen began with commencing our 72 hour “Red Bus“ ticket on the hop on - hop off bus which will be our mode of transport around Copenhagen over the next 3 days. To get the lay of the land, we undertook a complete circuit of the red line and its 23 stops to we could understand the best places to spend our time around. Copenhagen has many attractions but the number one place to visit on everyone’s top 10 list is Tivoli Gardens which is a 150 year old amusement park built in the centre of Copenhagen. Walt Disney visited Tivoli Gardens in 1951 and it is said that he modelled the Disneyland theme parks around Tivoli Gardens. So our last 2 weeks of the trip and one thing we wanted to do together was walk up to Pulpit Rock. It’s graded as a hard 2 km hike up, a round trip of 4 hours. Bernie knew it was going to be a challenge for her so we got there early with a packed lunch so we could take our time. Luckily for Bernie it was a cloudy day and quite overcast in contrast to the blazing hot days we have had of late.
