we cruise past the Art Gallery on the hop on hop off bus
We began our second full day in Copenhagen just as begun our first - on the hop on - hop off bus which we caught to the main train station and then transferred to the green line which took us past the Copenhagen Zoo and the Carlsberg Brewery. We were not sure why you would spend your time here in Copenhagen at a Brewery but for some people I guess this wold be the highlight of their visit to Copenhagen. After returning to the train station, we caught the red line to Christiania which is a commune type area established by hippies in 1971 white most of the buildings built by actual hippies. The area is built on public land around a river and public authorities have turned a blind eye to construction and habitation as well as Indulging in weed. Most of the tourists that were around Christiania were smoking joints or munching on hash cookies without any problems with the law. Andrew finally got to indulge in Denmark’s national dish here, a humble hot dog however his endless search for an apple Danish pastry has been fruitless and he has developed the theory that the “Apple Danish Pastry” has

only been named that all over the world because Denmark is the only place in the world where you can not find one.

After Christiania, we were back on the hop on-hop off bus for our trip to the Royal Palaces rights the waterfront. The Queen resides in the palace with 5 chimneys with Prince Frederik and Princess Mary in the palace with 4 chimneys With the flag flying from the roof indicating that they were in residence. The Palace buildings included guards very similar to Buckingham Palace albeit in grey uniforms rather than red. From the Royal Palaces, we made our way along the shoreline to the little Mermaid statue which is Denmarks most visited landmark verified by the number of tourists around during our visit. The statue has had her head sawn off 3 times - in 1978, 1990 and 1998.

From there, we walked to the cruise terminal and saw the alternative little Mermaid statue created by Carlsberg Brewery. Tish thinks that this statue better represents the real Little Mermaid story. We then boarded our hop on - hop off bus for the final time and visited Rosenberg Castle in Kings Park and then walked

along to the Citadel where we visited the famous Dutch windmill and then watched an army band performing impromptu. We then made our way back to the hotel room before 9:00 pm.
