I honestly have no idea where to begin here, but the point is to begin. I want to make these entries completely non-chronological. Ive taken loads of photos on my digital camera that linger in memory disks completely forgotten. That is the problem with digital photos: you take far more photos in the and tend to look at them less than you would a good old photo album. Anyways my next entry may be from my first Europe trip 4 years ago, the dregs of my daily life in Prague from last Winter, or maybe even my Christmas trip to Arizona. Theyve proven that time isnt linear, so why should blogs be? Let me update you on my present situation. Its a good one. I was just in England for a month earning the Pound Sterling, ... read more

Geo: 50.0878, 14.4205Prague castle - kitschy like Carcassone!!! A street called Golden Lane ... alchemists used to try and create gold back in the day so hence the name. Now it is all tacky souvenir shops. It's embarrassing ... the castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site! There is even a Barbie museum. What the hell? A total cash grab. It was extremely crowded at the Golden Lane exit. I'm sure lots of accidental groping was happening. I even accidentally groped myself a few times! I must admit that it was the highlight of the castle. I must also admit that it was no accident!Changing of the guards ... boring and over-rated. And I saw the noon changing of the guards, which is supposed to be extra special. Lunch was a sausage roll and a pecan ... read more

We had our first interrailing experience after spending 5 nights in Krakow. There were 3 bunks in our carriage, and we were delighted when we discovered ours were the lower two and not the one 7ft from the floor. We shared the cabin with a Spanish guy from Barcelona called Chaume. It wasnt the best night sleep we got especially when we were awoken by the angry border patrol at 2am, our amateurish backpacking showed up as we realised our passports were at the bottom of our bags. We made it to the hostel by 8am, however it was 10hrs later before we eventually got to check in. The hostel was newer and nicer than the last one. After a few hours sleep we ventured into the city centre to meet Chaume. A few quiet beers ... read more

Geo: 50.0878, 14.4205Sleeping on the night train ... it wasn't good and it wasn't bad. I just didn't get enough of it. Culture shock as I arrived in Prague. It's the first time ever that I arrived in a country without speaking even a single word. Prices here seem much more reasonable than Western Europe but some things seem to cost as much, if not more. Walked to Charles bridge and got a 20 euro ticket for jaywalking. I'm not sure if it was legit or not - I asked for a receipt and got one. Asked to see his ID and he showed me one. Whether or not it was real, I have no idea. Jaywalking is not acceptable here so hopefully it was a real ticket. Bad start to the day but what do ... read more

Geo: 50.0878, 14.4205As we walked off our KLM flight from Ghana to our lay-over in Amsterdam, our jaws dropped as we expereinced a few moments of re-entry shock into the developed world. The stores were full of options and things, and things, and things to buy. The airport almost felt sterile it was so clean and organized. Yep, we were most definitely out of Africa. We arrived in Milan for ten days of 24-hour running water and electricity...oh yeah, as well as rest and relaxation. Given the multiple times we have been at Jamie's sister and brother-in-law's place, Milan is no longer a foriegn city to us. Our friends, Amy, Marc and nine month-old Aviv from Portland met us in Milan for three days of non-stop machiatto/ espresso drinking and gelato eating. Somewhat embarrasingly, though joyfully, ... read more

Dearest all.. It's the last day in Prague and I'm feeling quite sad..I must say Prague has been my favourite city thus far..so inspirational and creative..music when you turn around every cobble-stoned pathway and such unique art and craft stores..priya and I sure stocked up on our souveniers!.. Yesterday, we went to the Charles bridge overlooking the colorful landscape of Prague and the meandering vltava river. A short stroll from there took us to the prague castle.. Although it was nothing compared to the extravagance of Buckingham palace, we were able to watch the changing of the guards without straining too many muscles. One of the guards even took a fancy to my travel buddy and stole a wink at her during his march!..she's got way too many admirer's here..she's built up a whole collection of ... read more

Although he was a dominating force on the ice during the early to mid-nineties, Jaromir Jagr's mullet put him squarely at the lower echelons of respectability of North American society. I mean, you're a guy making millions of dollars, you can hire the best fashion consultants around. Hell, you don't even need to hire a fashion consultant. Pick anyone off the street could tell you for free that the mullet went out with leggings over leotards, the band Dokken, and parachute pants. Yet there Jaromir was, night after night, flying down the ice with a huge tail of hair flowing after him like he was some sort of furry comet. And oh how we North American sports fans chided him for it. However, since arriving in Jaromir's native Czech Republic, I've come to realize that we ... read more

Today was a very low-key day. I slept in (wonderful), woke up, goofed off on the internet, went back to bed, and then embraced the day at about noon. The four of us went to a pizza place that took Euros (we still had some leftover from yesterday). Next we went to an open-air market in Old Town. I loved it there. There was so much stuff to look at and buy, I definitely did some impulse buying there. After shopping we went back to the dorms. I took an inventory of all the souvenirs I bought. Let's just say I bought a whole lot of stuff. We actually took a picture of everything spread out on my bed. (I'd post it but I don't want to ruin anyone's Christmas presents!) After I figured out exactly ... read more

Berlin - Prague (Train) 6 August Prague (Praha) is really a city full of “B’s”. So much so, it probably could be renamed “Brague (Braha)”. The first “B” is the reputed beauty of this city whose historical buildings were for the most part, unscathed throughout the Second World War. Goethe called it “the prettiest gem in the stone crown of the world” (and he got around a bit - for his time). “B” is also for Bohemia, which is what the Czech Republic was known as when it was ruled by the monarchy until 1918. A “B” for basilicas, with the large gothic style cathedral on the hill and the Prague castle nearby. There is “B” for baroque, which was the architectural style preferred by Maria Theresa: the 18th century Hapsburg ruler of Austro-Hungarian and Bohemia. ... read more
