We had our first interrailing experience after spending 5 nights in Krakow. There were 3 bunks in our carriage, and we were delighted when we discovered ours were the lower two and not the one 7ft from the floor. We shared the cabin with a Spanish guy from Barcelona called Chaume. It wasnt the best night sleep we got especially when we were awoken by the angry border patrol at 2am, our amateurish backpacking showed up as we realised our passports were at the bottom of our bags.

We made it to the hostel by 8am, however it was 10hrs later before we eventually got to check in. The hostel was newer and nicer than the last one. After a few hours sleep we ventured into the city centre to meet Chaume. A few quiet beers turned into an all night session and we ended up in a house club called Misch Masch until 6am. We got up bright and early the next day for the Liverpool v Chelsea game at 4pm. We watched it in an English Pub that we had discovered the previous day and it was well worth it, since Liverpool claimed their first trophy of the season! After that we met Chaume to say goodbye as he was heading back to Krakow.

On Monday we decided to actually see some of the beautiful city that we had been in for 2 days. We did a lot of sightseeing and did all the tourist things, including the rather large castle on the top of a mountain. On Tuesday we decided to take a pilgrimage out to Plzen, which was about an hour and a half away by train. It is the home of Pils Lager and the first brewery in Europe. Unfortunately, we were too late arriving to do a tour of the brewery but we got to visit a museum about the history of it and sample some of the local output. Next Stop Bratislava
