We were on the bus at 9 this morning for the one hour drive to Krka National Park. It was a lovely drive where we got to see a bit more if the Croatian countryside while Melinda told us lots of information about the country. When we arrived in the National Park, we walked with Melinda down through various sightseeing spots to the area facing the main waterfalls. To be honest, there are waterfalls everywhere you look but the ones at the bottom are the most spectacular. They have done a fabulous job of building paths and boardwalks so that you can experience this park from many different angles. This is another place that I will let the photos do the talking. We had quite a bit of free time here to explore and walk different ... read more

Good breakfast then departed 8am. Had to turn back as somebody left their ipad at the hotel, wasted an hour. Roadstop then crossed border into Croatia, had to disembark twice at the crossings. Arrived Zagreb at midday, picked up Mattea for city tour. Bus tour around the lower town then walked the upper town which is the old town. Stopped at old town square, where cathedral and parliament buildings. Walkedvdown streets to lookout over the lower town then through the old stone gate to the lower town, market square to the main Cathedral then main city square. Spent an hour wandering around stopping for coffee and ice cream at Krass cafe recommended by Mattea. Back to city square where there was a motorbike meet, (appox 100 bikes) they were just heading off which was great to ... read more

This morning I was woken around 6:30 thanks to the noises coming from the room next door. Eventually got out of bed, showered and headed down to the restaurant for breakfast. It was lovely sitting in the outdoor terrace to have my breakfast, which is included in the booking. At 8:30 I went to the reception area to meet our tour leader, Melinda, and the rest of the tour group. There are 14 other people on this tour and they are all couples and older than me, which seems to be common on these tours. Most of them are Aussies although there is a couple from Atlanta in the US and a couple from New Zealand. At 9am we met our local guide, Ana, and proceeded on our walking tour of Trogir. It was very interesting ... read more

Happy birthday Grace Whelan - 17 today! I didn't set an alarm this morning so when I woke around 8:30 I remembered the AFL Grand Final had already started. I opened the AFL app to see the Magpies and Eagles were exactly even at 3/4 time. Checking out how the game had gone until this point made me grateful I had slept through the first 3 stressful quarters especially with the Eagles conceding the first 5 goals! Anyway, as anyone who follows the sport will know, the end result went the Eagles way by 4 points but not after a truly sensational/stressful last quarter. So cheers to all my family & friends who are Eagles supporters and commiserations to all my friends who are Magpies supporters (that would be you Lisa ?). Now that's over - ... read more

We have reached the farthest point of our journey. Now to start the 1000 km drive southeast to Skopje. Today is our third and final visit to Croatia, to the capital city of Zagreb. It’s all motorway so progress is rapid but dull. After days of yearning for a decent motorway as we picked our way along Bosnian goat tracks and Albanian roadworks, I’m bored of motorways now. The old man alleviates the the boredom briefly by taking a wrong turn and accidentally heading for Austria. We find our way back onto the Zagreb road, cross the border and reach our destination by 10.30. Lonely Planet doesn’t have much to say about Zagreb, which is fine as I am out of clean underwear. So, first port of call is the laundrette. Armed with clean pants, we ... read more

Happy birthday to me!! After being woken by my phone ringing at 4:20am and then 5am (thanks Dan & Raelene haha ?), I still managed to sleep until just after 8am. Then I was excited to turn my phone back on and check all the birthday messages from family and friends around the world. Feeling totally loved ♥️♥️ Had a great long chat with Clare which was so lovely. I got an awesome (reasonable hour!) call from Daniel, Raelene, Marcel, Xavier and Vasana who were driving north to Coral Bay (hence their early morning attempts when they still had reception). They were just at the Overlander roadhouse so had reception but unfortunately I lost them after awhile as they headed into the great unknown (or far as the internet is concerned!!). Also got a wonderful video ... read more

After a reasonable night, apart from the very basic room amenities, a good breakfast then the Plitvice Lakes tour. We decided on the easier walking tour as I'm not feeling so good. First stop was to view the Big Waterfall, stunning even though it was a little dry with not much water falling. Walking trail along the top of ridge overlooking the lakes, perfect blue waters. Caught tram to upper lakes where we walked the boardwalks around the lake edge. Stunning clear water. Plenty pictures taken. Depart 12.30 for Opatjia. Reasonable drive to Opatjia, arrived 5pm. Hotel Continental, older style but comfortable. Went forwalk around the town and promenade. Back for buffet dinner which was good then bed.... read more

The island of Mljet is about 1h30 ferry away from Dubrovnik. At this time of the year there is not so many option concerning the schedule. So, in order to have time to enjoy the National Park, we decided to spend one night on the island. The ferry took us to Polace, where we rented bikes to go to the main Lake. It is rather a steep ascent but I managed on low gear so I guess everyone can also manage. The descent on the other side is easier! But steep to climb on the way back. However, views from the top are stunning. Our B&B was in Babin kucé and turned out to be a perfect location to explore from. On our first afternoon, we took the small boat from Pristaniste to the small island ... read more

After reasonable night sleep breakfast at 7am, what a terrible breakfast mainly as there was no staff on duty. After complaining at reception some staff came out to clean the tables and bring some more food out. Departed 8am for long drive today. Roadstop at waterfalls bus station, Posjeti - Dozivi, lovely view of the falls but disgusting toilet facilities. Stopped fo lunch at roadside cafe which was very good, we had preordered our menu. On the road again then had to disembark for border crossing. Bosnia into Croatia. Arrived at Hotel Jezero at 5.15pm, very basic rooms, thankfully only one night. Dinner out tonight.... read more

After sorting out apartments this morning, I moved across into the one with the balcony and sea view. Very nice little spot as I look out over a mini orchard - in the backyard of other places here. Once I was settled in, I decided to walk along the coast in search of a beach to spend some hours at. The coastline is stunning with lots of rocks along the way, until you come around a corner and see a beautiful bay. I walked past the first one as I knew there were several more further along a rocky bush path. Each one I came to was more beautiful than the last but in the end I stopped at one called Robinson's. I hired a sun bed as the beach was all stones, and it only ... read more
