Many many photo pages on this one. Dan joined his family in Split where they sailed off together to Korcula, Dubrovnik, Mljet, Hvar, Trojir and many small islands inbetween, to land back into Split one week later. Lying on the back of a boat is the ideal way to get from place to place on the Dalmatian Coast. Attempted to upload a video - I dont think its working if you can find it. will try again ... read more

We were sad to leave Budapest, but Hvar was a great change from the craziness of traveling over the past few weeks. We flew from Budapest to Split, Croatia on Tuesday morning, then took a ferry to the island of Hvar. Walking into the Split airport (with one backpack filled with wine, as well as one obviously marked "fragile" duffel bag, we walked through customs as if we had nothing to declare. Awesome. As we walked off of the ferry, we were bombarded with people heckling us, asking if we needed a place to stay. Fortunately, we had already booked a room with a lovely Croatian woman named Ivanka Ivanovic (of course). She picked us up at the harbor, and immediately became our Croatian mother, telling us where to go, eat, shop, swim, etc. She ... read more

Hi all, Just a brief note to say that we have been doing the Islands off Croatia. Hvar and now in Korcula before heading to Dubrovnik today by ferry. Both islands and their towns are very special places. Of the two, I think I would have stayed longer in Korcula as it is a little, just a little mind you, less touristy than Hvar. Stunning scenery, history and food which is a little more ethnic Croatian than the Italian-German fare that Hvar seemed to thrive on. They had a rock concert in Hvar and then Korcula with local Croat band which is very popular over here. Sounded more like a cover band with songs from Pogues, The who etc etc, but the words changed to Croatian - very interesting. Apparently sea sponge tampons are all the ... read more

• 7-6 Bled - Zagreb That morning I finally got to enjoy Lake Bled with all of its intended beauty. The sun was finally out, the mountains were still snow capped, the lake and all its surroundings where all at there peak. The only thing missing was an attractive female and a picnic basket… Well leaving bled moments after my daydream and off to Zagreb, Croatia. Unfortunately trains decided to be late. Oh well, there was some good graffiti around. However I almost did make the decision to take a much longer train ride and become completely off track by going to Budapest with a bunch of British chicas, but decided against it. The train wasn’t very full after an hour or two and I got the pleasure of have my own room and took a ... read more

We have had a very lazy week in Sucuraj with lots of beach and get together with family and long lunches and diving off the harbour wall (we saw some local kids doing this) and fishing and usual holiday stuff! Spent state-of-origin (it was midday here) basking in the sun on the said harbour wall and waiting with baited breath for regular text updates on the score from Mich! Our deal was that when either team scored we all(except Nan) had to dive off the wall in to the azure Mediterranean (did you like the 'azure' bit?). After a quick 2 plunges it was a long wait till our next and they were sad dives as our beloved Maroons crashed to defeat. We had to saunter over to Bistro Tony in the arvo sun and drown ... read more

Too bad the toilets were holes in the ground. Not so bad for Chris, but not very nice for me. I managed to keep it in the toilet though. Other than that, Dubrovnik was beautiful. We walked the city ramparts, which are giant stone walls that surround the city. The main city streets were marble and so smooth. Dubrovnik was in the middle of a war not too long ago, and any buildings that were damaged were rebuilt with orange roofs. Everyone spoke impeccable English. They even had gelatto! There wasn't a bit of litter anywhere and the Adriatic Sea was a crystal blue. Not Cancun blue, but lovely none the less. When it comes to postcard beauty, Dubrovnik even surpasses Venice, believe it or not.... read more

Split We could tell that this place was going to be good before we even got there. Our plane from Berlin flew all the way along the coast into Split, and we could see the many beaches and inlets that make up the coastline from out of the window. Coz we were smack in the middle of the tourist season, we decided to get out of the city and stay about 35kms south of Split to avoid the crowded beaches. We found a nice room with a balcony 50m from the beach with a scattering of restaurants and only one mini-market to service the whole village... If it was even big enough to be called a village. Pretty much, as soon as we got there we headed down to the beach to soak up a bit ... read more

Hey all. Well have arrived on the lovely Island of Hvar, it is off the coast from Split and what a magical place it is. Seems pretty up market but we got rooms with a lovely old lady through Lonely Planet guide and they are great, could however do with aircon. We at least have a kitchen we can use in this place so I am off to buy a chicken and other bits to make us some dinner - getting sick of pizza etc all the time, but the Octopus and Greek salads are to die for. This is the Croatian version of Elba and about as upmarket. The heatwave continues in this part of the world with temps in mid to late thirties each and every day, sorry. Was so warm last night that ... read more
