Hi Everybody! Croatia is a beautiful country that sits on the side of a mountain by the blue waters of the Adriatic Sea. The coast is rocky with an occasional narrow beach. Most of the beach is covered with small rocks. The scenery is spectacular and reminded me of Italy. As a little background, I would like to remind you that Croatia was attacked early in the morning in October 1991 by the Yugoslav Army- mostly Serbs. Croatia had declared its independence from Yugolavia a few months before this happened. The citizens took shelter in the city's ancient walled fort and in their cellars. The fighting went on for 8 months. 70% of the homes lost their roofs to the bombing. Today, most of the land mines have been cleared. This summer, scientists started training bees ... read more

Vi badet, dusjet i fosser, klatret inn i smaa grotter, hoppet ned i kulper, satte oss i naturlige ... read more

We arrived late on Monday evening at Split airport, and caught the local bus to Trogir, a small town 20 km west of Split where we were staying for the night. We arrived in Trogir around 11pm and were quite impressed with what we saw. There was a charming little old town that was overflowing with people eating, drinking and generally walking around. After checking in to our hotel we went out for a late supper and a bit of a wander. In the small main square we saw a juggling, fire throwing/fire eating/cocktail twirling performance by a barman behind a temporary bar - very impressive (sort of Tom Crusie and Bryan Brown from the movie Cocktail but with flaming bottles). The following morning we had a look around the old town, and were keen to ... read more

DUBROVNIK Dubrovnik was amazing. Europeans call it the Carribean of Europe - not too far from the truth. The water was warm, the food not too shabby, and they actually sold beer by the liter. Nice! We spent our time exploring the gorgeous old town, baking our bodies in the sun, and diving off the numerous rocky outcroppings and beaches. We are actually in Florence now, and will give an update of the Cinque Terre soon. We are diggin Italy right now. OK, off to eat some boiled beef paninis dipped in meat juice....Ciao!... read more

Ciao a tutti! How are u all? Finally I am getting the chance to update the blog. A lot has happened since our last entry. I have had to change my mobile number as my greek simcard stuffed up. My new number is +393337515945. Also I have already put photos up on facebook (which is so much easy to use) so check them out if you havent already done so. Paxos We spent nearly 2 weeks on the island of Paxos, where Ange's dad is from. It is on the western side of Greece, just under Corfu. We stayed with Ange's 2 aunties, Niki and Anthi, and also her nieces Niki and Panayiota (who I nicknamed Gollum because of her resemblence to the Lord of the Rings character). She was crazy and obsessed with us lol. ... read more

We woke up this morning in Croatia! Grabbed a quick breakfast at the Ocean Grill on the 10th floor (great buffet!) and then jumped on a shuttle to the Old Town of Dubrovnik. We paid to tour the entire perimeter of the old town along the top of the city walls. The town is all stone with clay roof tiles - ranging from yellow to deep red. The fortifications at each corner of the town are tall and impressive. Along the ocean, it seemed like the stone walls were just extensions of the stone cliffs - it all just blends together. Once we finished walking the walls, we headed down the main street - full of tourist shops and vendors. We stopped for lunch at the small port at the end of the main street and ... read more

HRVATSKI HOSPITALITY PICTURES TO FOLLOW WHENEVER WE GET TO A MODERN COMPUTER!....... After 36 consecutive hours of travel (thats a 6 hour jaunt from Nice to Milan, a 3 hour hop to Venice, a 7 hour overnight scoot to Zagreb, a 5 hour shuffle to Split, concluded by a 4 hour shimmy to Dubrovnik), we were picked up at the bus station by the proprietor of "Rooms Antovnic", a 72 year old Croatian woman named Katie. Still in a daze from our trip, Katie used the few English phrases she knew to manuever us onto the public bus and take us to her establishment just outside the old town city walls. As we were walking toward Katies guesthouse(a charming, signless 150+ year old building that once served as an orphanage) she was quick to point out ... read more

Arrived this morning on time despite the hour + delay. Everyone in chairs slept miserably, shifting from one uncomfortable position to the next. Although people were relieved to arrive as scheduled I was a bit disappointed. Completely unfamiliar with the country, language, exchange rate, location of my arrival in relation to the port I need to be at in a few hours. So I sat at the Port cafe and oriented myself according to logic and observation. The coffee sharpened my thoughts and the brioche gave me the boost to get on and explore. With a canvas military style duffel bag and my backpack both weighing on me I walked at a slow snail pace. Admired and took in the architecture, it is port like, duh, and mixed with old and new buildings. I walked through ... read more

August 4, 2007 Croatia - A Vacation from our Vacation!! After 6 weeks of travel we were getting weary. We needed a vacation from our vacation. Aunt Debbie has a co-worker, Srjan, who owns a charming B&B in Makarska, Croatia on the Dalmatian coast. We were able to find a week that he had free to spend on the beach. It couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. After we left Plitvice National Park we headed for Split, Croatia. It was a short drive and we had gotten into the whole routine…arrive in town…park the car…get a map...orient to the town…find lodging… have fun! Well….that was June and July and now it was August in Europe when pretty much everyone in France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Croatia, Austria, and Great Britain go on vacation. Split ... read more
