May 30, 2008 Villach, Austria Today we drove the 3 hours or so through Slovenia to Villach, Austria. This is a very nice drive through some beautiful country side and across some passes in the Slovenian / Austrian Alps into Austria. Lots of skiing here. The freeways are great ( Tolls ) and it is a very easy drive. The drive into Austria reminded us of traveling into the mountains from Calgary and to Canmore and Banff. Still lots of snow on the tops of some very high peaks. We were amazed again with the amount of tunneling used to straighten out the roads in Europe. These guys have it right !! The longest one today was 7800 meters ( meters for everyone in the world except Americans.) ( For you it's about 4.85 Miles ) ... read more

In Poggersdorf (near Klagnefurt) - tomorrow night (saturday), I will be attending a birthday party for who knows who... a friend of a couch surfer. I will hopefully surf nearby for 1 or 2 nights. Following - I will head to the autobahn on-ramp, and stick out my thumb --- to Vienna! Monday and Tuesday seem to be decent days; no rain or snow... let's see what happens! (Bologna and Venice/Padova/Chioggia blog is delayed ... sorrry!) My backpack is too large. I have a jacket and a sweater that I will probably never use again. I think I'll ditch them on the side of the road, or leave them here in Poggersdorf for other surfers (if they get cold!!)... read more

So... a few things changed. No big deal- I've started couch surfing in Klagenfurt because things with my 'friend' here didn't work out so well. Bah! Sorry I haven't posted much about Bologna, Chioggia and Venice - I've been wrapped up with a tight budget, and finding new and spontaneous places to stay!!! And - the keyboards are weird here, the Z and Y have moved :) ... read more

For starters, I still wasn't sure we were supposed to get off the train for the layover. It fel weird for some reason. It was freezing again, but whatelse is new? Pulling into the station, the town looked absolutely adorable. It's what I pictured a little Austrian town to look like. The station was completely dead except for a few weary stralers like ourselves. We headed outside and all I wanted was a nice cup of tea. We walked all up around through this quiet little town tha reminded me of home. It was all decorated for christmas and streets were lined with christmas ecorations and lights. I only wish we were around durin gth day to peruse the market and stands along the street. It has to be adorable. It makes me sad that I ... read more

Jo, hör her.

March 16-18, 2007 - My buddy assigned to me by the school here in Wiener Neustadt, Matthias, is the best buddy that anyone could possibly ask for. This weekend, he invited a few of us (the other Adam from Drake and two canadian girls, Monica and Jacqueline) to go to his father's cabin in Corinthia in the Austrian Alps. After a 3 1/2 hour drive from Wiener Neustadt we arrived at the cabin and quickly went to sleep. We woke up Friday morning at 8am and drove an hour to the Nassfeld ski resort. We were doubting how much snow there would be because the weather had been so warm. Suprisingly there was a ton of snow! We quickly rented skis and got on the slopes from 11-4. It was about 45 degrees on the hills ... read more

My name is Tamara Berger. I'm 17 years old. I'm from Carinthia in Austria. I live in a detached house in Baldramsdorf, this is near of Spittal/Drau. It's a village with 2000 inhabitants. I like to live there, because it is very quiet and the people are friendly. In Baldramsdorf we have a church, a townhall, a little shop called Schlecker, a Kindergarten, a music school, where you can learn an instrument, a cemetery and lots of local inns there. There's always something going on there. There are not so many cars. My hobbies are swimming, cycling, reading, listening music and meeting my friends. ... read more

I got up at 7. After breakfast we went to Joyces Supermarket and from there we went by coach to the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren Nationalpark. Before we arrived at the Cliffs, we visited the Dunguaire Castle, which was built in the 16th Century. Then we visited the Cliffs of Moher. When we got out of the bus, a stormy wind blew. But it was very interesting to see the Cliffs. Later we went home with the bus and we saw the black head. There isa face in the stone, which is called Black head. At half past five we had our dinner. Later we went to the city and at 11 o'clock we fell asleep. ... read more
