I finished up my travels through Costa Rica with a stop in La Fortuna - near the Arenal volcano. It was a nice place to hang out (met a cool chick from North Van and a dude from Amsterdam) and play some cards, swim in swimming holes, hike to waterfalls and also relax in the Hot Springs! And relax we did! There were 16 pools with 16 different temperatures of water - all lit up beautifully (we went in the evening) and a swim up bar in a couple of the pools also - along with little waterfalls everywhere! I felt like i was in a 7 star resort for a few hours. What a nice change! I left Arenal and planned to make it to San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua in a day. Unfortunately ... read more

Koska parin tunnin odottelu bussiasemalla ei innostanut, otettiin taksi/kolektiivi rajall... read more

We arrived in San Juan del Sur on Sunday afternoon, and eventually found our school. (www.sjdsspanish.com )School starts on Monday, so it gave us plenty of time to check in to the school and meet our host family. We were lucky that our host family lived so close to the school. Our host Mama is Marta, and she has 7 grown children and at least 5 grandchildren. It´s really hard to keep track and tell who actually lives there ´cause there are so many people coming and going all the time. The $200 each for the week included the homestay, all meals, 4 hours of class per day, and group activities every day. Quite a bargain. There were about a dozen people in our class which was quite huge for the school. Everyone had their own ... read more

After the lake we went looking for a beach as we have not seen one for a few weeks! We were recomended San Juan Del Sur by Lisa a Canadian girl we met at the lake, she has been living there for a year as a massage therapist. The place was nice enough, but very quiet. The beach was huge but it got quite windy which was nice to cool down, but I hated it as I felt like a peice of sandpaper, so I spent most of my time in the water anmd left Michelle to lounge about. Our favorite thing about San Juan was the sunsets. They were amazing. The beach was a hoseshoe cove and the sun set right in the middle turning the sky into bright pinks, reds and yellows. It was ... read more

Hello Everyone, We are in San Juan del Sur right now which is a small beach town on the pacific coast of Nicaragua. We are having a great time and were supposed to leave today but decided to stay because we can´t bring ourselves to leave. Hopefully we will be able to move on tomorrow because we are running out of time and want to see as much as we can. Lucas and our friend Scott have been surfing everyday on a local beach called Maderas while Lindsay sits on the beach and counts the grains of sand. The beach is extremely beautiful and it is very isolated and hard to get to. We have to ride for about 45mins in a truck bed that is jam packed with other people. Every now and then the ... read more

I am in Managua! And its BEAUTIFUL here. Warm and sunny and incredible. After a slightly restful night, (3 or 4 hours of sleep and lots of interruption thanks to "TLC Alerts" from Orbitz), I woke up at 3 am and lay awake until I got out of bed at 345 to catch my flight. The flights were painless and had no delays but I did have do a little jogging to catch my flight out of Atlanta. Everyone else is here except for 3 more folks who arrive tonight. We sat around talking and drinking soda in the sun, and then had lunch. (Chicken and rice and plantains!) Today is pretty free, and tommorrow the big stuff starts. love, K ps= i will put up photos of the guesthouse and delegates soon. Gotta find a ... read more

Okay, Okay...so we're a little slow in getting this blog out. The sun tends to slow productivity...examples of this are found around the globe. Due to our pressing time schedule to see some of our crew for New Years...we took the express route by bus through both El Salvador and Honduras. We stayed two nights in San Salvador and we were surprised with the sophistication and modern buildings that dot the skyline. We stayed in a great botique hotel to treat ourselves and split up the 20 hours of bus riding that abused our booties. We kept reminding ourselves of the upcoming beaches that awaited us. Our arrival into Nicaragua and finally San Juan Del Sur was just what we needed and luck was on our side in finding a great little hotel complete with A/C..yes ... read more

No tourists, low prices and pristine beaches...it doesn´t get much better than this. My bunkmates are three guys...couldn´t tell you who they are or where they´re from. We don´t see each other but passing in the streets and then it´s a nod and a quick "hello, did you hear me snoring?" "No, but the guy in the far bunk was talking in his sleep!" (insert laughter) My bed was $6 so I don´t mind bunking with surfing strangers. Last night I read more of Ronen´s book while lying in a hammock listening to a group of guys playing the guitar and singing Spanish songs. I find it hard to put the book down. It´s called The Zahir, written by Paulo Coelho, a talented writer of whom I´m now a fan. The story is incredible, one man´s ... read more

I´m never going home. Okay I AM going home, but only to make more money so I can fly back down here. To the Three Amigos reading this from Sterling Heights (really only one amigo because the other two are completely computer illiterate) I´d recommend San Juan Del Sur over Playa Samara any day! Fly into Managua, take a taxi to San Juan Del Sur (or rent a car...the roads are much better than between Tamarindo and Samara) and you can sit on the beach drinking beer and watching the sunset every night. This is paradise. The only thing we´re lacking here are the howler monkeys... and I´m sure they´re here, I just haven´t seen them yet. Tomorrow is the beach...and hopefully the start of a terrific tan. Buenas noches mis amigos. Puedele encuentra su propio ... read more
