Thinking back to the days before my travels, I have a tough time recalling the last sunset I took time to enjoy...where watching the sun in its final moments is now a daily event. I know when I eventually return home life will again be hectic with work, errands and the daily headaches, but I won't forget about the beauty of the simple things. These reminders of the wonderful things that God has created for us are all around. It's important not to let this busy, crazy world consume us. We all need to step back once and a while and enjoy the simple things. Now, I know you can't always see a sunset from where you are, but I have a solution for that. Simply place the sunset picture from my entry onto your screensaver ... read more

We hit the Pacific coast for the second time this trip, the last time being Puerto Escondido in Mexico. After staying at the disappointing Finca Magdaleina we were really so excited to arrive at the Hostel Casa de Oro and have this fantastically friendly lady greet us with a huge smile and a warm 'Como estas?' Another well run and organised hostel. Even the shared kitched was spotless....As you can imagine, being the fanatic cleaner I am....one of the first things I notice is 1) How clean is the bathrooms 2) How clean is the kitchen? Sad I know !!!! We had met up with our old British buddy John on Ometepe and three Aussie mates and so all 6 of us decided to spend one day in San Juan (which by the way was a ... read more

Once again I´ve gone awhile without updating. On the last post I was waiting in San Jose for Keturah, Kelly, and Cronburg to arrive. They´re now all back in the land of paved roads and hot showers, and I´ve just arrived in San Juan Del Sur in Southwestern Nicaragua. Heres a brief summary of what happened in between. But first: Congradulations to Dad and Anette, who got married on the 31st. - Excuse me for the hangup Anette - My phone card ran out. Congradulations to Jeremy and Meagan on their upcoming wedding. I wish I could be there. Good luck getting into the bachelor party Anthony. Try groing a beard. Keturah arrived in San Jose a couple days prior to Kelly and Cronburg. It was St. Patricks day. Keturah was exhausted from travelling so she ... read more

Hola Familia y amigos, Well we have completed another week of Spanish school in San Juan del Sur and we are still not speaking as well as we had hoped, however, our comprehension has improved greatly. With old minds like ours I guess it just takes longer. Actually I missed two days of school last week, home with a high fever. I had been battling some congestion in my lungs and sinuses for nearly two weeks and I think it developed into pneumonia or bronchitis. It has been extremely windy down here and the air is very very dusty, I have talked to other travelers afflicted with the same congestion. The fever seemed to help clear it up, that and I started taking grapefruit seed extract when the fever started. Don't worry Mom, if the fever ... read more

Hola familia and amigos, Yesterday was Terry´s birthday, and also the birthday of the woman of the house where we have been staying. Today is the 15th birthday of the daughter Karla, so as I wrote before, we stayed for the big Quinceaño party. The preparations, decorations and all were just like a big wedding. The party was great fun, music and dancing. About fifty people attended. The kids were great dancers, and the old people attending were dancing as well, keeping right up with the youngsters. Of course us old people took more breaks. We spent a couple of days traveling to some other towns after school ended on Tuesday. We went to Masaya, which is the shopping mecca of Nicaragua. We did not go to shop but rather to the the Jueves Verbena at ... read more

Hello again from San Juan del Sur, We were able to watch the playoff games yesterday and Terry is watching again today. How about those Broncos, and how about the interception by Champ Bailey. I am not much of a football fan, however, that play was really fun to watch, and then we got to watch it over and over and over again. Everyone at Big Wave Daves, the gringo bar we watched from, is still talking about it today. It has been real interesting meeting other travelers at the bar and hearing their travel stories. San Juan del Sur is a real tourist town, travelers from all over the world. We hear many different languages spoken here. And like most resort towns, it is a party town. We went dancing at the Disco last night. ... read more

Well we finally have a break from our Spanish school. What a great time we have been having. we study each morning and have activities in the afternoon. Our knowledge of Spanish is progressing quite rapidly. For our afternoon activities we have been taken on several hikes, two excursions to some remote beaches, cooking lessons, and my personal favorite, dance classes. Me gusta bailar (I like to dance). We danced salsa, marenge (sp), and palo de mayo, which is the maypole dance from the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua. Tonight we will go to the local disco and try out our new dance steps. It will be a beautiful full moon night and the disco is right on the beach, perhaps we will take a dip in the ocean under the full moon to cool us off ... read more

Hola Familia y Amigos, We have been in Nicaragua a week now. We arrived in Managua then caught an early morning bus to San Juan del Sur, a small beach town on the Pacific coast near the Costa Rica border. It is a tourist town so there are many travelers from all over the world here. We have been taking Spanish lessons everyday, hence the reason for no postings until now. We have school each morning for 4 hours then activities each afternoon. We are staying with a local family that is just wonderful and very helpful with our Spanish. They have two sons who were living in New Orleans when the hurricane hit. They both lost everything they had in the hurricane so they are back home in Nicaragua for now. It was certainly interesting ... read more

Hello people! Im sorry about the severe lack of blogs over the last couple of months, I have been so busy having adventures that i havent had time to write about them. well actually, that isnt all true, ive spent the best part of the last week laying in a hammock and playing cards with my travel buddies. However, everytime i sit down to write a blog i suddenly get writers block. Ive written brief notes about things ive been doing but i havent written anything worth publishing so i intend to work my way back and fill in the blanks so the next few blogs youll receive wont exactly be in chronological order! However after requests for a blog by many of you (especially aunty vic) I thought Id get on and just blog what ... read more
