Hello there everyone With Christmas over, it was time for me to move on with my travels. The sea off the coast of Belize is dotted with dozens of small islands, known as cayes. I decided to head for Caye Caulker, a well known backpacker destination. A short journey of 45 minutes in a water taxi and I was there. Back in Mexico, an American called Chuck gave me a recommendation on a place to stay on Caye Caulker. It turned out to be good. Nice one Chuck. For a tenner a night, I stayed in a small wooden hut perched high above the beach on stilts. There was a balcony complete with my new favourite accessory, a hammock. The view was picture perfect looking out over the Caribbean Sea. I had told my American travel ... read more

All right well xmas was fabululous. We cooked my snapper and had lobster, shrimp ke-babs, and everything else. Basically I've been relaxing and hanging around. The Island modo is "GO SLOW". So that is what i;ve been doing. Lots of Sailing wiht Richard and hanging out down at the split. All the locals know me by name now so its always an interesting evening going out. The fishing has been great. We've basically brought home a monster fish every time. So much fun. For New Years me and my parents went out for some dinner at herbal tribe then for drinks down at I&I. Great times. I was spanked! Started to drink at like 4. Great Fun!. But I know everyone back home is jealous but no worries, I have to come back to reality in ... read more

New years Eve

Happy New Year everyone. Can't believe it's 2007 already. I'll be honest with you, I didn't know an awful lot about Belize before I started planning this trip. I vaguely knew it was somewhere in the Caribbean (I've learnt how to spell that now) but I had visions of it being some kind of island. So I was pleased to see that it actually forms part of central America, bordering Mexico and Guatemala. Formerly British Honduras, Belize gained independence in 1981. The population is only 250,000 and 75,000 of those live in Belize City. From getting on the bus at the Mexican border, the changes between the two countries were evident. For a start, the main language here is English although there is still a fair smattering of Spanish speakers. The comfortable buses with reclining seats ... read more

Geo: 17.4775, -88.1491Another day, another crappy breakfast - of course, that didn't stop me from stuffing my face like a pig! It's only been two days on board, but my nose is already resembling a snout and I've grown a curly little tail. I'm just exaggerating - I've actually had that little tail since I was born! Off to Belize City - booked a snorkeling tour but had some time to kill, so we went to town to buy Tam some underwear. Buying underwear together ... and you wonder why everyone thinks we're a gay couple??? As we walked around taxi drivers kept offering to take us to some girls. But the creepy part? As we walked away, it became "VERY young girls ....". I guess I shouldn't be surprised by it - I've heard that ... read more

The next morning I took a beautiful bus ride to the Guatemalan border on the "jungle route." We forded rivers and nearly got stuck in the mud a few times... very fun. I stayed in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala for the night before catching a boat to Punta Gorda, Belize. The ride was a very rough one and I got totally soaked, despite the tarp pulled over all us passengers. We unloaded and made our way to the bus station, where most of us caught a 7 hour chicken bus ride to Belize City... Just can't get enough school buses!! Along the way our driver played Boy George and Shania Twain... wonderful. Once I arrived at the Seaside Guesthouse, I found that there was a fellow Virginian staying there, who immediately lifted me up in a huge ... read more

Well, hanging out with Berne was bound to lead to some interesting things... Let's see, we ended up hanging out most of the rest of the day after spitting some flows in the park. Berne asked me if I wanted to go to the rehearsal for the concert and do some filming for him. I definately wanted to see it, so I went with him to the Roomba room, where the concert was to be. He got on stage and started doing raps, dancing real crazy. He was a Garifuna, they are the funkiest dancers. I did some filming. He turned out to be a real nice guy, down to earth. We did the rehearsals for about an hour, and then got some real tasty stewed chicken with rice and beans. It was my first real ... read more

we had heard this little town just a few miles from the guatemala border was full of nice people but geez.... our taxi driver was actually smiling while heaving our packs into the trunk. it made you almost paranoid as to what he may know that you donĀ“t...but in the end, i guess it was just that happy water they drink here. each and everyone we ran into here was helpful, happy and eager to hear your stories of travel. we decided to take in the local mayan ruins that sat atop their tiny town. the walk was welcomed as we had yet to burn a calorie in the prior 24 hours. a few minutes to relax around a finer hotel we snuck into on the way back and we were good to go. oh, and ... read more
