My goodness, what can I say about Armenia village? It's in the mountains surrounded by green & palm trees. The church we're working with is nestled on top of a hill & the view from the church is spectacular. You can truly see God's beautiful creation in Armenia. It's a spanish speaking, very poor village so it's been a challenge for our group to communicate w/ all the people, but we're all managing. Yesterday we went to the Belmopan orphanage....52 kids crammed in to a small building. There was an article written about Praying Pelican Missions (the organization I work for) which should give you an idea of the things we're doing here. http://www.windsortribune.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=3902 Check it out. They were on our first trip this summer. So, I have 10 days left in Belize. It'll be sad ... read more

Hi everyone Aren't you impressed that my, shall we call it 'tendency to cut it fine' (Yvonne!), has made me master of the upgrade (twice now). I'd like to pretend I had it all arranged for Luke's birthday but that would be a bit disingenuous since he's the one who's been trying to curb this tendency for years! Not so easy to get online these days as we are truly remote. We've just spent 3 nights in the heart of the rainforest - 7 miles down a dirt track with waterfalls cascading over the road. The lodge is built on an escarpment overlooking white water rapids. Truly eco, far from the grid, just hydro and solar powered and most of the (delicious) food grown on-site. Morning activity was spot the tarantulas which grew bigger by the ... read more

Orange what? Ah Orange Walk, this really was a strange place and not at all what I expected of Belize. This 2 street town really didn’t have anything to offer, apart from more Chinese restaurants than residents, a couple of cracked out beggars, a few hotels and a brothel, all of which can be visited within a 15mins. I booked into a really nice friendly family run hotel called St Christopher’s Hotel. They were very helpful and told me that most people only stay for one night so they can do the Lamani trip. Great that’s exactly what I wanted to do. I booked my trip through the hotel, eventually gave in my attempt to find local food (impossible past lunch time I think) and got some fried chicken from a Chinese place. Then I returned ... read more

Hi, We were upgrades on all our flights to fist class!!! Grandpa dont worry we are getting all you messages. Jake XXX Hello I went to the zoo today and my favirite animals were the black jaguar ,the harpy and the giant stork. Toby xxx Thanks for all the birthday messages. Claudia, the insect balm was immediately useful - thank you so much. Also, we are recieving all your messages, whether it says unsent or not, so don't worry on that score. We arrived in Belize City yesterday afernoon, stepping onto the burning tarmac and into the dripping tropical heat. It was quite a contrast with the cool pacific breeze and wide freeways of SF, which we left at 3am in the morning. They had advanced the time of our flight when we arrived at the ... read more

These last few weeks have been amazing! We had a group of over 120 people from Houston (of course everything is bigger & better from Texas!). They had a fun mission trip in Belmopan (Belize's capital, the smallest capital in the world). Then I took 1 week off & went to Guatamala, loved it! Spent a couple days in Placencia, Belize where I went scuba diving at Laughing Bird Caye & went zip-lining. Belize is famous for it's scuba diving & now I see why! Lots of colorful fish & coral. Then last week we had a group from South Carolina in Ladyville, Belize. Wow, I've never seen a group like this before! They were so charismatic! We're talking healings (I saw a blind man that was prayed over & then he could see!). They were ... read more

Apologies if this entry turns out to be a bit of an epic; we´re going to try and cover the entire 3 weeks we spent at MMRF in one go! Here we go................ I think the journey to reach the farm in San Pedro is going to be one of those that will only be equalled by the likes of the Inca trail!! We set out from Dangriga early in the morning by bus (what else) and being that it was rainy season the road looked a little water-logged, this soon progressed to the road being completely flooded as a river had burst its banks. As we reached the flood we saw a 4WD truck stuck in the middle of it trying to reverse out having not been able to make it all the way through, ... read more

We arrived in Belize City yesterday, but it was a dive, accomdation double the price of Mexico and quarter as nice (infact just not nice at all), people dodgy and out to scam and everyone offering Kev drugs because of his hair style! Needless to say we just stayed the one night and got straight on a water taxi to a nearby island the next day. The water taxi was a rather bumpy experience on a speedboat surrounded by american missionaries but still a very cool ride resulting in arrival at a beautiful sandy island surrounded by crystal blue waters, hammocks everywhere and where people get around by foot or golf buggy rather than cars! We were here to go snorkelling in the world's second largest coral reef. We easily located a tour and then chilled ... read more

On saturday (July 8th), Adam and I took the boat from our resort to San Pedro to catch the Caye Caulker water taxi to Belize City. Here we took a cab to the airport and waited for Adam's plane which also happened to have Kristin and Rani on it. It's always hard to say goodbye to Adam and even a bit harder after such a glorious week, but we know the goodbyes are now numbered and that makes it easier! It was great to see Kristin and Rani!!!! They brought me my first wedding magazines! And, man, those things are overwhelming!!!!!! But so fun, too!!! We got in a taxi and I basically reversed my route, but instead of heading to San Pedro, we stopped in Caye Caulker. We found a hotel (that claimed to have ... read more

Adam and I are nearing the end of this amazing vacation. Neither one of us wants it to end!!!! We're staying on Ambergris Caye (pronounced key) 4.5 miles north of San Pedro. And only a half mile off the coast line is the second largest barrier reef in the world. We can see the waves crashing on the reef from our room and the water is crystal blue and fairly shallow. Our resort has very different set ups. Our room, called a casita (little house) is 40ft from the ocean and when you open all the doors and windows, the most amazing breeze whooshes through the room. I'm in love with the shower and we took pictures of it for when we can afford a bathroom like it! The resort, Mata Chica, has a maximum occupancy ... read more

Update We were able to successfully upload pictures to our previous blogs (dating all the way back to Chichen Itza). Check them out by visiting our blog's homepage and simply scrolling down. Enjoy! Intro to San Ignacio Fairly teeming with Guatemala-bound travelers, archaeologists, peace corps workers and other thrill seekers, San Ignacio (also called Cayo) is a pretty town with a plethora of things to see and do in the surrounding area. Together with Santa Elena across the river, this is the chief population center of the Cayo District. That said, it's still small and during the day it's quiet. At night the quiet disappears and the jungle rocks to music from the town's bars and restaurants. With a selection of hotels and restaurants, it's also the logical place to spend the night before you cr ... read more
