May 29th, 2014 – Georgetown / Stocking Island…Take Two! Hello again from Georgetown (GGT)This is my 2nd time entering the Georgetown Harbour and Tony's 3rd time during this trip. Tony, of course spent a lot more time here while the boys visited in March. We've been here since last Thursday. Several of you did see our track entering the harbor from about Emerald Bay onward. Today, we moved from Stocking Island to the "town" side of the harbor to make it a shorter, drier, and easier dinghy ride when doing laundry and groceries. You should be able to see our track again today crossing the harbour. The tracking station is ... read more

We awoke early and had breakfast and then I went to see if I could get a ride to the market to buy some more beverages. The Condo owner threw me his keys and said go for it! How cool is that? Luckily I have driven on the "wrong" side of the road when I was in South Africa, so no issues there. I went the few miles to the market and made my purchases and then when I arrived back at the condo, we went to lunch at Augusta Bay. We were a little tired of getting too much sun. It is very strong down there and we had a little too much the previous days. Our lunch was good, but not as good as the dinners that we had at Augusta Bay. We finally ... read more

We slept in today, then had some breakfast, before heading out to the beach. On our way to the beach, we met a family who had relocated to Exuma for the simple island life. They were super nice and fun to chat with. They said I could go on their boat with them that afternoon if I wanted to. We were on the beach a few hours, before walking back to the condo for lunch. Sadly, my tooth began to act up. Before our trip, I had some oral surgery done, and it was giving me fits. We went back to the beach later on and I told the family that I would not go on the boat due to my tooth. I wished I had though because we saw them when they returned, and they ... read more

We went to Exuma in July of 2011 and really fell in love with the place. It is so quiet and relaxing. It is sort of like having your own private island and beach. The beaches are amazing and the water is so clear. It was so nice to be back! We immediately felt at home as we went through customs and immigration. We caught a taxi to our condo, which is the same condo we stayed at last trip. It is called Sapphire Garden Townhomes. They are closed on Sunday, but like last time, they said they would leave the condo open for us. They also would stock the refrigerator with some drinks. We were dropped off in front of the unit and were a little nervous. You see, last time they had a sign ... read more

To leave from a holiday is tough. To leave from this paradise is even tougher! The day had come though. It seems like you have forever when you arrive and then bam! The time is gone. We awoke early and ate some breakfast. We then decided to walk the beach one more time. At about 11am we went back to do the final packing. At about noon, we caught a taxi to Exuma airport. The ride was about 20 minutes and it was with the same driver who brought us from the airport. He was real nice and he gave us a CD of local music. Our flight was at 1:15 pm and the whole airport check in procedure was very easy. This flight was wide open for stand-by travel and they cleared us for business ... read more

Today we caught a ride to the market and bought some groceries for our town house. It was in Georgetown, about a mile away. The ride was nice and we got to see much of the town. There is only one petrol station and it was lined up with probably 20 cars. They said that is normal and they are trying to get a second station built. The market was a fun experience and it had more of a selection than I thought it would. Some things were comparable in price to the USA and some things were a lot more! We went back to our place and made some lunch. We ate some sandwiches and crackers. In the early afternoon, we went back to Jolly Hall Beach, but this time to a different part of ... read more

For our summer trip, we wanted to go to Europe again. We could to most destinations without any problems on stand-by. However, the return flights were all bad for stand-by travel. We looked at maybe going back to Sint Maarten but I kind of wanted to go somewhere new. We also looked at going to Quito. I was looking at our route map and saw Exuma. I looked into Exuma and everything seemed to fall into place so we went for it. We flew from Indianapolis to Atlanta the morning of July 24 on Delta 960, which was a DC-9-50 aircraft. There were two open seats in first class so I let my wife and daughter sit up there while I took coach seat 20F. Once in Atlanta, we had about a two hour wait so ... read more

Georgetown, Bahamas 2010-2011 After arriving in Georgetown on December 5th, we quickly settled into our new routine of living at anchor in Elizabeth Harbor. This harbor is made up of 6 or 7 different anchorages, each with its own personality. We prefer Volleyball Beach anchorage because it is at the heart of the cruising activities. Because Double-Wide draws less than 4’, we are able to anchor very close to shore. Our life at anchor is strictly, “off the grid”. We must depend on our battery bank to power the electrical appliances we use, including radios, PC, cell phone and lights. We have several ways to replenish the batteries. Primarily we depend on our solar panels, then our wind generator and finally, we have a 4.2 kw generator that can power a battery charger. The daily routine ... read more
