Day 8 - 3rd February 2010 - Jade market & Ladies Market Last day today & very sad. We decided to pack and then go out. We have to check out at 3pm for a 4pm shuttle bus. We caught a bus to the Jade market at Jordan. Ran the gammett of lady sellers who forever called "missy, missy" and followed us along the rows of stalls, over 400 stalls of jade sellers. Who knows what is genuine and what isn't. Just buy thinking it isn't real and be happy to pay something for what you think it is worth. Bought Ratko & John B some souvenirs. Headed to ladies market (again) for some last minute shopping. Back to the hotel to pack the last purchases. It took all our ingenuity to get the things in ... read more

Day 7 - fnd February 2010 - Che Kung Temple & Shopping We started our day by visiting Che Kung Temple in Sha Tin (part of the new territories). Took a taxi and 3 trains to get there. It is the largest temple in HK but I thought not very impressive. Then caught 4 trains to Sham Shui Po. I had heard that it it is great shopping street and market. The exporters all sell their overruns and seconds there. We didn't like the area at all. Faye equated it to the manufacturing areas of Redfern. Very old, not clean like the rest of Hong Kong. Faye bought a few things, but Shan & I weren't impressed. We headed back to the hotel for a rest as my back was seizing up. We had yum cha ... read more

Day 6 - 31st January 2010 - Disneyland Our day started really badly, couldn't get any cash out of the machines. After Ratko spending a lot of time trying to sort it out, seems the ANZ stuffed up our travel card, so playing the move money around game & paying lots of fees to do it! Half our day was spent trying to get money! Finally arrived at Disneyland at 12.30! It was a warm sunny day and it was packed! We saw the Festival of the Lion King, The Golden Mickeys & the Grand Parade which were all wonderful. Had a couple of nice meals, well, desserts! The fireworks were awesome, then we hit the sourvenir shops. At the beginning of the day I bought my mickey ears and wore them for all the photos, ... read more

Day 5 - 31st January 2010 The Peak and Lamma Island We woke to a fine sunny day, so decided to head to the Peak to have a look.Bus to the ferry, then ferry over to Central. The line for the bus to the peak tram was huge, so we decided to bypass the tram and catch bus 15 to the Peak direct. Beautiful views along the way, and the views from the peak were stunning. Still hazy, but much better than the last few days. We then caught the bus back down and boarded the ferry to Rainbow Restaurant on Lamma Island for lunch. It was a VERY small boat and the swell was pretty rocking, it took about 50 minutes. No gangplank, very hairy for me getting both on and off the boat. We ... read more

Day 4 - Saturday 31st January 2010 We had an early start to the day, great breakfast as usual. Dropped our washing off to the laundry Tried to get money out of the ATM - said card expired - not until 11/12! Not good. We caught the bus to Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian Gardens, we loved them last time. They are as beautiful as I remembered them. Took lots of photos (surprise, surprise). Caught the MTR back to Prince Edward station and hit the markets. Unfortunately it is Saturday and the crowds are huge in the shops and at the markets. Bought some small souvenirs but apart from that not much. Still have to go to the Make-up/fragrance shops but they had too many people in them today. By the end of the day ... read more

DAY 3- 29TH JANUARY 2010 Today we headed off to the Island to have a look at shopping and culture. We caught the bus to the star ferry for the trip across the harbour. Unfortunately when boarding the bus, I really hurt my leg and was in agony, so it was a really slow walking day and a lot of pain. I couldn't get up the stairs to the top deck of the ferry, so we went cattle class. We arrived in Central & paid our $50HK, which gave us an all day pass on the sight seeing bus. I told the girls to sit up top for the best view of the city, open top - they froze (I would have loved to, but couldn't get up the stairs The first loop took about an ... read more

Day 2 - 28th January 2010 After not sleeping AT ALL on Wednesday night, I got up early to check mail. Then we met for breakfast. The buffet was wonderful with a really good variety. It was then onto the hotel shuttle to Mong Kok MTR to go the Stanley and the markets there. I had warned Shan and Faye about the white nuckle ride, I think they thought I was exaggerating, but oh no -the drivers here only have one speed - super fast and reckless! AND they weren't sitting up top, couldn't convince them to! The trip down is spectacular but very winding and narrow. Arrived and did some souvenir shopping. Not much for myself. We enjoyed haagen da ice cream and milk shakes ($5aud and $7 aud each! Back on the bus to ... read more

Day 1 - 27th January 2010 Just a short entry will update later. Early start to the airport, had a welcoming party of Joyce, Maureen, Esther, Felicity & Tyrah BUT couldn't spend long with them as we spent an hour in the line checking in!! Rediculous. Had a very bumpy flight over, not nice at all, Faye & I had to protect our coffee from sloshing! The captain told us before we took off about the turbulence over northern australia and the phillipines - great! The service and food was wonderful this time - very different to 2 years ago. Got up regularly to give my back and leg a rest from sitting. Had lunch and dinner before arrival. Arrived on time 5.50 pm local time, but took ages to get through customs. We had a great flight home, not nearly as bumpy as going over. BUT the landing was awful, even Ratko commented how bad it was, I was holding onto the seat in front, I had a window seat and could feel & see us going sideways! Glad to get my feet on the ground. We finally arrived home around 7.30. Now we have to get back into Aussie time! I keep forgetting to say that if you click on the photos, it brings up a larger version. Added Rotorua and Auckland. When I can work out how to add video I will, I have a couple of classics.... read more
