TUESDAY: BIG BUDDHA LANTAU ISLAND: Ratko wanted a late start today, same with Erin. We decided to not have breakfast at the hotel but go and have yum cha (they call it dim sum here) for breakfast. A bit unusual having dim sum for breakfast. The one that was recommended was Maxims at Central. We arrived at 10.30 to find it didn't open til 11! The food was beautiful, but once again nothing different to what we have in Chinatown. Then our adventure began. We started our journey to see the big buddha on Lantau Island. It was around a 40 minute train trip to Tung Chun - the end of the line on Lantau & one stop past the Disneyland change (I was tempted to get off here and go back to Disneyland). We arrived ... read more

MONDAY - DISNEYLAND: I couldn't wait for this day to come. None of us have been to Disneyland. I know this one is smaller and probably doesn't compare with the others in the States but for us it was a great adventure. Ratko and Erin were still complaining about going on Sunday night, saying it was for kids and I said so what we have never been to one. They decided that half a day would be enough ignoring my protests. We had breakfast in the hotel and headed out. It takes 3 train chanages and about an hour to get there. Hong Kong Disneyland is the only one with a Disney train to take you from Sunny Bay to the Park. It has mickey shaped windows and the holding handles are mickey shapes. All along ... read more

SUNDAY- A TRIP TO THE NORTH EAST COAST: Good morning everyone. Yesterday we had a change of pace and headed onto the mainland and the eastern coast. I had read about Sai Kung as being one of the best regions fro fresh seafood. It took us 2 MTR changes and a long bus trip to get there. On the way we stopped at Diamond Hill to see the Chi Lin Nunnery. It is the most beautiful place and so serene. The gardens ate full of bonsais (large Bonsais) and the buildings themselves are so beautiful. I got into trouble for taking a photo of one of the the buddas on an alter. Accross the road are the Nan Lian Gardens. The brochure states: "a classical garden in a modern city, Serenity in the midst of urban ... read more

SATURDAY-A DAY OF SIGHTS AND SHOPPING (AGAIN) Hi everyone, I promise I will try and not use amazing once today, I just can't think of another word to describe everything here. It is so virbrant and alive. Our day started with brecky in the hotel. It gets us going for the day. Erin decided to do her own thing today and started with a sleep in then over to Kowloon for another visit to the markets. We rang her at 8pm and she was still there! She spent up big. We caught the hotel shuttle down to the harbourside at Wan Chai to see the convention centre. It has beautiful views of the harbour. It was built specially for the handover to China from the British. My poor camera took a real beating there, a vista ... read more

Hello everyone, I can't get on to travelpod, so have started one on this site. Thursday - Macau: The day didn't look too good when we left the hotel. It was very foggy/smoggy/hazy (don't know which one) but we thought it would lift. After breakfast at the hotel (once again beautiful) we caught a cab to the Macau Ferry terminal. We got a place in superclass on the Macau Turbojet for the 10.15 sailing. In all my excitement to get out of the hotel I totally forgot my sea sick bands & tablets -aagghhhhh! We boarded the ferry and the amount of rocking was unbelievable! I thought I would be using the sickbags in the pocket in front of me. Not long after we left they served us breakfast (just like the plane) but I was ... read more

Well, I have done all this on travelpod, but now can't access it, so will start again here. As you all know I am an early riser, so I am doing this while the other 2 are sleeping. TUESDAY 8TH JANAURY 2008. Our adventure begins. Up at 5am to get organised and head off to Springwood to catch the coach to the airport with Shannon's school who are heading to Japan just 5 minutes after us. We had a great trip and arrived at SIA at 8.50. What a surprise we got, Maureen & Joyce were both there to see us off. I couldn't believe my eyes, what great sisters I have. They left home at 6.15 & caught 3 buses to get there. We had a huge wait to check in then off the McD ... read more
