Day 8 - 3rd February 2010 - Jade market & Ladies Market
Last day today & very sad.
We decided to pack and then go out. We have to check out at 3pm for a 4pm shuttle bus.
We caught a bus to the Jade market at Jordan. Ran the gammett of lady sellers who forever called "missy, missy" and followed us along the rows of stalls, over 400 stalls of jade sellers. Who knows what is genuine and what isn't. Just buy thinking it isn't real and be happy to pay something for what you think it is worth.
Bought Ratko & John B some souvenirs.
Headed to ladies market (again) for some last minute shopping.
Back to the hotel to pack the last purchases. It took all our ingenuity to get the things in our cases and hope the weight would be OK, allowed 23 kgs + 7kg cary on.
We were amazed by the amount of lollies and chocs Shan bought!
We check out then went down to weigh our bags, all well under except my carry on (I have the laptop in it).
We stayed in the club lounge until our shuttle. A long trip back
to the airport.
The qantas check in line is the longest. We go through immigration & customs, and guess what?? I was frisked!
We finally went to board our 8.10 flight to get on another extra long line. We get half way down the ramp to the plane and another bag search!
Our seat is the worst on the plane, directly opposite the galley! No sleep for us. Never get row 57-60 on a 747-400. constant activity right through the night. The ride back home was very smooth, totally unlike the ride over. They estimated us to be 30 minutes early BUT the weather in Sydney was causing delays so were in a holding pattern over the Hunter Valley for 30 minutes! Still arrived on time. Must have honest faces, got through immigration in a flash, the new chip passports are so good. We didn't even have to go through customs, we said we had lollies and chocolates, they had a quick look at the baggage carousel and straight through, no conveyors or anything!
We were met by Ratko & Erin and the new family member, 8 week old Bounty (Erin & Jamie's new pug puppy), he is so cute!
It rained all the way home. Finally arrived home at 11.15. Tried to unpack but gradually started feeling worse and worse. I had been feeling off for a couple of days & had a sore throat for 2 nights & by mid afternoon started feeling really hot. I had my swine flu needle before going but was a bit concerned so called the hospital & they recommended a visit to a Doctor. So went to Nepean and was given the OK. Not feeling so good, but improving.
Our holiday is over :-(
We had a great time. Shan was overwhelmed by the number of people and the rudeness of some of them.
She had a great time though and has the purchases to show for it!
We were disappointed in the trip to Lamma Island & Sham Shui Po, but these are part of the culture and of Hong Kong and we are happy we saw them.
My injury really hampered what I could do, but I still had a great time. It is not like me to slow down & we could have done so much more.
I love Hong Kong & as I said last time, I will
be back, still so much I haven't seen.
So until next time zài jiàn & huí tóu jiàn 。(goodbye, see you later)
