Hello to all my travel-following friends. Sorry for the lengthy delay of posting. The last posting indicated we were staging for the Bahamas. Unfortunately, the weather did not seem like it was conducive for us to head there. The forecast indicated there were more northerly fronts coming down and we did not want to be hopping around trying to find a safe anchorage. We continued to stay in Key Largo and move around there until the weather settled a little more. Once that happened, we headed south (then west into the Keys), which is where we have decided to stay for a little while. Life has been good and relaxing. We are getting more and more comfortable aboard the boat. Sailing is a bit different on this boat because she travels much faster and sails much ... read more

We had a wonderful "first" sail today. It's the first time the sails have been up on this boat! We weren't breaking any speed records, but it was a wonderful first sail. It was a chance to see how the boat reacts to the different directions of the wind and, actually, a very little amount of wind pushed us along quite nicely. We are very pleased! We are staged here at Pumpkin Key, just outside Angelfish Cut, ready for our big sail tomorrow. Not sure how long we'll be out or exactly where we're headed. The weather will dictate that as we go through the day. :-) See you all on "the other side".... read more

Departed our Marine Stadium anchorage at about 8:30am. We had been hoping to do a little sailing across the major part of Biscayne Bay, however, the wind, again, was not going to cooperate. The day started with flat calm all the way across the bay. You can see how flat it was when we left anchorage. As we got closer to the southern side of the bay, the breeze started to pick up. By the time we entered Card Sound, the wind was about 10 in our face and cool (hence for the pic of me all bundled up). Started the day in my bathing suit on the deck (with the autopilot at the helm) watching the bottom of Biscayne Bay through flat calm water. As the day progressed, I put on a long-sleeved shirt, my ... read more

Departed our Lake Sylvia anchorage at around 8:40 am. Another day of bridges, however, it wasn't as bad as previous days. There is one fixed bridge just north of Miami that has us a little concerned. The height of the bridge and the height of our mast are within a couple feet of each other. We had departed a little later in the morning in order to put us down there around low tide. As it turned out, we made very good time and had to anchor just north of the bridge for a couple of hours. The anchorage was a little rolly, but nice. The weather was absolutely perfect!... read more

It was a long day for us to Ft Lauderdale. This trip took us through 21 bascule bridges. Most were on a schedule which we seemed to be off of for a couple. This just meant we waited around for 20 minutes to half hour for the scheduled opening. All in all the trip was 10-1/2 hours, but a very nice day. The weather cooperated quite nicely. No wind to speak of which meant motoring all the way. Of course, with so many bridges, sailing would have been difficult. We finally arrived at our anchorage (Lake Sylvia) at about 6pm. We got everything settled, had a nice dinner and died! The next few days were nice. We went ashore one day and took a trip to the grocery and the liquor store. Stopped and had lunch ... read more

We arose early, as usual. We headed out about 7:30am. Today would be a longer day. About 35-40 miles to the anchorage at Lake Sylvia in Ft Lauderdale. Today would bring many bascule bridges (some on a schedule and some "on-demand"). Unfortunately, more were on a schedule that we had difficulty meeting with a slower boat, heavy tides/current and odd schedules. We ended up waiting anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes for a couple of the 21 bridges. Our departure from the anchorage in Lake Worth, took us past Palm Beach inlet. We encountered our first container ship coming into port (many Tropical containers aboard). This area has a LOT of money. I took just a couple shots of the yachts that hung along the waterway! All in all, it was a nice day. We arrived ... read more

We pulled up anchor early in the morning to further our journey south. As was the journey the day before, this was just as nice and quiet on the waterway. A little longer than previous days, but nice still the same. The anchorage where we stopped didn't have too many cruising boats, mostly moored boats (some that had been there a while). Again, this anchorage was quite active with a nice park and boat ramp. People coming and going at all hours.... read more

We finally pulled up anchor and headed a little further south to Peck Lake (Hobe Sound area). It was a nice motored cruise down the river. A beautiful day on the waterway! We arrived at the anchorage to find some friends of ours anchored there. We settled in and I dropped the kayak in the water. This anchorage is a very popular place for locals to come as they can beach their boats and have a short walk to the ocean. This makes for a very wavy anchorage (that, and it's very close to the channel where boats are constantly speeding by on the weekends). My kayak trip was nice. I got back into an area where it was nice and quiet. Later that afternoon, we dropped the dinghy in the water and headed to a ... read more

We departed the Riverside Marina around 9:30am Thursday morning. We weren't exactly sure where we'd end up that day, but we just wanted to be headed south. Everything seemed to be working great. Eventually we had a strange sound from the starboard engine and Gene determined that there was a small hole in the muffler. Apparently a previous owner had screwed a board down and the screw punctured the top of the muffler. We decided to stop on the northwest side of the Jensen Beach Causeway. We ended up staying there for 10 days. At one point we did move over to the east side of the waterway as the fetch on the river and the SE wind caused a chop on the water. Not only that, the NW side has a boat ramp and boats ... read more

Since our return to the states, we have been set up in our motorhome in Vero Beach. We have been steadily working on the catamaran to prepare her for our trip south. After Gene working tirelessly on her (as well as the trawler and the Mako) for several years, we have put in a concentrated effort since our return from Europe in October. She is finally ready for launch. Launch videos & ... read more
