**Let me apologize for the delays in posting. Its been hectic and often there isn't a good connection. I will post more photos when I have a better connection Last night I slept well, but in spurts, waking up every few hours. At about 6:30am, Manoli woke me up and we started packing. We had to be out of our room by 8am, but the host said we could leave our backpacks by the door as long as we wanted. We were all packed and ready to go soon after 7am. We stuffed our lightweight backpack with the heavier, less needed stuff, put 8 Euros in the envelope, and left it by the door. We'd decided to leave casually around 8:30, so we walked into town, looking for a cafe. We'd about given up, when we ... read more

**Let me apologize for the delays in posting. Its been hectic and often there isn't a good connection. I will post more photos when I have a better connection Today we going to travel from Paris to Saint Jean Pied de Port in southern France. This is where we start, and many other people start, the Camino de Santiago. We already had our train tickets, all the way to Saint Jean. But first, we had to get to the train station. We got up, did our business, packed up the backpacks, and headed to the metro station. Fortunately, we didn't have to worry about getting our deposit back, since my wife had taken care of it the night before. We walked down to the metro station Le Nationale, the same one we'd used yesterday to see ... read more

First of all, let me apologize for the delay in my blogs. Between the intial rush, and trying to do everything we wanted to in Paris, then the train trip to Saint Jean Pied de Port, and the fact that our first night on the Camino was at Refuge Orisson which does not have WiFi.... Since I'd fallen asleep so early, at 2am I couldn't keep my eyes closed I got up and went downstairs to the patio to work on the blog and photos for a while. After about an hour, I was bored, so I returned to bed thinking just to lay there, but I fell back to sleep. At around 6:30, Manoli got up, so so did I. We took showers, changed clothes, transferred the stuff from the suitcases into the two cardboard ... read more

Charles DeGalle Airport is quite huge. I believe there are 3 main terminals and each of those has ... sub-terminals. After whooshing thru customs, except for the slight delay by my wife showing her expired Spanish passport, we went out to get our luggage and then look for the Roissy Bus. The Roissy Bus runs from the airport to L'Opera, a main square in Paris. Since the airport is quite a ways outside of Paris, a taxi is pretty expensive, and even the Roissy Bus cost 13.70 Euros, one way. After a short wait, the bus showed up and we were on our way. I had already found out how to get to the hostel, since I'd asked them in an email, but I let myself get convinced to try a different way when I told ... read more

My daughter Tanya and her boyfriend Ben came at 8:30 to take us to GSP Airport. We arrived at GSP and checked in. I had been worried about my passport, since it expired right around the 6 month time frame I read about. Apparently I was wrong or it was okay. The other thing I was worried about was our backpacks being too big, but apparently no problem there either. We then went up to go thru TSA. I had to be padded down because I didn’t think I had to remove any non-metal items, but the rule was to remove everything. Oh well. I had it easy compared to Manoli, because her bar of laundry soap keyed off the scanner and she had to have everything taken out of her backpack. We found our gate, ... read more

Hey there, it looks like I am off on another Camino. In 2017, I walked the Camino Frances, a 500-mile walk across the top of Spain to Santiago de Compostella, the resting place of Saint James. It wasn't easy, but it was fun. In 2019, I walked part of the Camino Portuguese, a 200-mile plus walk from Porto, Portugal to Santiago. This one wasn't as enjoyable, partly because I got lost a couple times, and party because I didn't make any friends. I was planning walking the Camino del Norte last year, but COVID intervened. My wife heard about my plans, and said she'd like to go with me. Since the Camino del Norte is a bit less crowded, but a lot more rugged, I suggested we do the Camino Frances. Well, after a lot of ... read more

We'd already pretty much packed up the night before, so with our 5:30am alarms, we were downstairs waiting for our ride by 5:45am. Finally, at almost 6:10, our ride showed up. The nice gentleman apologized for running late and took to Boise International Airport, dropping us off out front. We checked in, got our tickets and were boarding pretty much on time. I make this statement because almost nothing was on time or easy after that! We arrived at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport around 11am Central time. Since our connecting flight was not until after 7pm that night and wouldn't show up on the boards for a while, we settled down near the gate we'd arrived at, after a long walk around Terminal C. Manoli got out her book and I hooked up my PC and settled ... read more

We were up and on our way soon after 6am. Once we got out of the town, we drove sooo many miles without seeing a single place to stop for coffee. Finally, we spotted the Silver Lake Mercantile. The place was so welcome, and the owners were quite friendly. The lady had a lot of unusual decorations outside, reminding of my wife. We grabbed our coffees and continued down the numerous small roads that would eventually lead us to Idaho and our final destination of Boise. Besides be so desolate, we ran into two different places where they were working on the road. The first one was a short wait to be lead down single open lane, but the second one was a 20-minute wait, and at a time we were a little worried about arriving ... read more

North America » United States » Oregon » Crater Lake July 27th 2021

Last night the cabin was very warm, and the fan we had didn't help much. Sometime late in the night it cooled down and I had to shut off the fan. Still, I guess we got an okay night's sleep and were on our way to Crater Lake by 7:30am or so. Crater Lake National Park is just over 50 miles from the KOA, but that is just to the entrance. We arrived at the Masama Village area by 9:30am. Masama Village is still a ways from Crater Lake, but we were ready for another hot coffee. After getting our coffee, we got back on the road to Rim Village. Here, besides another place to eat and a gift shop, there were some great views of Crater Lake. We didn't realize how lucky we were until ... read more

North America » United States » Oregon » Medford July 26th 2021

This morning we awoke and leisurely packed up for our trip to our last KOA, Medford/Gold Hills KOA Journey. It was only a 3 1/2 hour trip with little to stop and see along the way, so we were in no hurry. We stopped at Rays Food Place in Bandon for a couple of cups of coffee, then found a good beach viewpoint at Coquille Point. After some good photos and a little coffee, we were on our way. We cut across Oregon to reach Interstate 5 South, passing through a lot of mountain passes and small towns. By the time we reached the interstate, we were ready for lunch, so we started checking out each exit to see what they had. We ended up getting off at an exit that had an A&W Root Beer ... read more
