Culloden
We had the added bonus of a bunch of weird Canadian role players at Culloden Moor on the day we visited, who brought the place to life a little bit by being dressed up as Highlanders and giving free talks about the battle and the events leading up to it. It was a blustery, bitterly cold grey day when we were there as well, which gave it a bit more of an ominous feeling!

What, you didnt go in at Culloden? The information center there was really, really interesting....but maybe you have more knowledge of the history than we did....we needed the explaination to understand the full significance of the place and what went on there. Nice to see it so green....it was barren and dreary when we were there!

Wow you make both places sound really, really appealing. I dont think that I will be adding Aberdeen to my list of must visit places..... ore Peterhead for that matter.
17th July 2009

Nope, I agree with Mum and Dad....Dundee was a hole and we didnt leave the confines of the Premier Travel Inn!

You can't beat the chippy!
You both look so well and happy. The chippy is an absolute must to visit - yum ! The photo of the Village of Crovie has to be seen to be believed - amazing. Loving the travel tales, Helen xx

Stoked that you found Mount Rosa! Very cool :-) And Dundee is not that bad...except for when the fog rolls in from the sea at around 3pm and you can't see 2 feet in front of you :-P

It's funny to see a photo of Stirling Castle with green grass in front of it, as we were there over Christmas and the whole of Stirling was covered in snow - together with the steep streets around the castle being coated in ice! And I know what you mean about that hill up to the William Wallace Memorial...I climbed that not long after getting over one of my cracker English colds and had the breathing capacity of a 98-year old at the time!

Piiiie
Lovely to think that a regular NZ pie has up to a golf-ball sized amount of fat in it...and there you go getting a pie with EXTRA fat! Keep an eye on those chest pains!! :-P

Family skeletons are clanging!
Hi Super sleuths You have been busy in your investigations of the whanau. Enjoyed reading about it and no doubt by the time you have visited the Scottish rellies you'll learn even more.

Busy in Benvie?
I cant imagine it being busy in Benvie....we were there are Easter and we just abondoned the car by the sign and took a walk....Cormac even lay down in the middle of the road to take a picture of Hoofy and the sign! Wait until you get to Italy.....icecream heaven!!!!

Navigation
Before our brief excursion into Italy in 2001 I said to my three navigators "If you are coming with me you need a sense of humour and a sense of adventure". That way we saw a lot of Italy even if we didn't mean to. I hope you two are enjoying each others' company in spite of tricky navigations. Enjoy the adventure.

Och aye the nu...
I can just imagine the kittens that were nearly had with that *near miss* :-) Lockerbie must have been interesting...Dunblane is another place to visit in Scotland with a rather grisly history...

Hadrian's Wall
We toured around Housestead's Roman Fort on Hadrian's Wall and found it really interesting (it's been on the History Channel). Paul, our son-in-law and an expert on all things Roman and Greek, says Vindalanda Roman Fort is better. We crossed into Scotland at Carter Bar and it absolutely poured with rain - welcome to Scotland.

I am soooo pleased that you made it to Blackpool after years and years of us being blamed for the house being lit up like Blackpool Illumination!!!! And Im with Rin, dont believe that it reached 30 degrees in the UK!

What a crack-up that there is a shop called Kaikoura! And yet again, my mouth is watering at the mention of your steak and ale piiiiie.......
8th July 2009

Well, I shall consider myself very, very lucky to have secured an amazing seat in the stands to watch Man U play....it certainly was one of those experiences that stay with you!

Blessed with great weather
You certainly picked a great time to be in the Lake District. Pics are great. We breezed through Kendal in torrential rain so never had a chance to stop and admire the views. Add Rosslyn Chapel to your list of visits in Edinburgh - not because of The Code.

Beautiful
Lovely pictures with this entry. It feels like you really caught the atmosphere and mood of the day, especially in the last shot of Kendal. I think you should submit one of your pictures or a snippet of text as an entry to our competition. Check out the homepage here: http://www.hotels.co.uk/hotel-deals/nanobreak You just need to tag your Flickr image, YouTube video or Twitter tweet with the tag "nanolog" and your entry will automatically be picked up by us. You stand to win a trip to Rio! Not bad for submitting your mini travelogue of Kendal, if you ask me :) Cheerio

*LOL* at the Blackpool Illumination :-D And 30 degrees in England?? I *don't* believe it!
2nd July 2009

So you didn't manage to make off with one of the players shirts then? Did they show you the big spa pool in the dressing room where they get all-in-together-boys after a match?

While the first class on Virgin trains might look comfy, the cattle class certainly aren't! I can attest to that from my journey from Nottingham to London on a Virgin train with a dead-rigid seat that was bolt upright and didn't recline at all... And a nite of chips and haddock along with two episodes of Coro? You guys really are living the *English life* aren't ya? :-)
1st July 2009

Gotta say...Murray is lookin' a little shabby next to his new-born English counterparts! Maybe time for a whirl in the washing machine??
25th June 2009

At least the Sainsbury's opened on a Sunday....in our little village our local supermarket (Sommerfields...otherwise known as Scummerfields) didnt even open. We had to venture further to the Sainsburys but then only between 11 and 2 or something stupid!
25th June 2009

That totally cracks me up that you guys went on a Beatles bus tour....and on a dirty hippy "magical mystery" bus too! But very glad you didn't forget about ol' Gerry and the Pacemakers and took a ferry cross the Mersey :-) And I never got used to supermarkets hours on Sundays! The number of times we thought we would do our weekly shop on a Sunday evening only to get to the super and find it had closed at 3pm!!
