Love the comments about the shower! Do you have one of those stretchy travel clothes lines with you? Cormac got quite good at fashioning the clothesline into a device that could hold up the shower head for me. And wait until Italy.....those African men will be selling knock-off handbags and sunglasses. And if its raining they suddenly find a stash of umbrella's to add to their range. And in Spain they will be selling DVD's. Its all on a white sheet that turns into a sack they can throw over their shoulder when the police arrive!

It never snows in the BOP!
Gather you heard there was plenty of the white stuff in sunny Tauranga yesterday. Definetly a real chill in the air here so great to see sunny blue skies in your snaps. Quite an emotional read for me about the Crete experiences.

Laughing at your toilet "incident"....it's not a trip without a toilet story! ;-D Beware of "Asian" style toilets in Italy too!!

ALBANIA IS THE LAST HIDDEN TREASURE OF EUROPE
ALBANIA IS VERY CHEAP AND IS WORTH TO VISIT IT. Albanians are very friendly and very hospitable. The country has amazing historical architecture dating since from roman empire, greek, medieval, communist etc. I suggest you to visit Durres, Vlora, Saranda, Apollonia, Butrint, Berat, Gjirokaster, Shkoder, Kruje, Lezhe , you can go visit the whole albanian reviera or the spectacular magic albanian alps. Of course in the end visit Tirana. Albania is called the Thailand of Europe as is extremely very cheap.

Great blog today! Must email you the name of the tram station to get off at in Athens to go to the cemetery. Pleased that you are enjoying the staples of travelling Europe....squid, gelato and free local alcohol after dinner!

Fun in the sun
Sounds like fun in the sun but the reality is there is swine flu in NZ!
1st May 2009

Mind you stay away from anything on a Greek or Croatian menu saying it is Lemon Pan-Fried Fish - sounds like a nice fillet of fish pan-fried with lemon. But what you are acutally presented with is a plate of grilled sprats. Fell into that trap one too many times!

Ah Paros...
I recall having a much more enjoyable time on Paros than on Naxos, for the simple reason that my dodgy guys had sorted itself out by the time we got there :-P Hopefully you managed to see an amazing sunset that Paros is so memorable for me for. Paros was where Brent and I took the bus to the next town over, drank a litre of wine at lunch and fell asleep on the beach in the sun - not so fun :-P

Best behaviour
Pleased you were on your best behaviour at the Anzac ceremonies. Mind you the TV1 broadcast was chopping and changing between live Gallipoli and studio footage it spoilt the whole occasion so we never had a chance of spotting you in the crowd. It must have been quite an experience to be there and witness the sunrise, the addresses and the last post. Enjoy the Greek Islands. Do you have your Mama Mia music with you?

Did you actually try the raki? Hit you for a six like it did some people in our tour group? Cormac was quite fond of the Effes beer in Turkey so good to hear that its still good value. Good luck for the next leg! Greece rocks!

Probably best that you were asleep cos that road was pretty hairy, with a very steep cliff at one point....and I felt it was my duty to stay awake and make sure that our bus driver did the same!
27th April 2009

Ahhh, wait until you have to pay for a toilet that is soooo not worth paying for! My preferred way to get around the payment issue to to sneak in with a large group of people or wait until the attendent isnt looking!
26th April 2009

You can't beat that sense of pride at being a Kiwi - a similar feeling to being in London on Waitangi Day...only more alcohol involved :-P And now you can *imagine* how I thought I was going to die of exposure on that beach 3 years ago!
26th April 2009

So glad to hear you have made it thru Turkey without succumbing to the dreaded tummy bug that got me!! :-) Looking forward to hearing all about Greece!
