What, disappointed with Dartmoor? Maybe thats because you didnt see it in the rain....on the day we were there it lived up to its spooky reputation as it was all shrouded in mist and it rained frequently! Sounds like you stuck a lucky day in Torquay though!
9th August 2009

Got your postcard from Torquay on the weekend :-) So no mooseheads on the wall or drunken war veterans in the bar or amusing German guests at the hotel then??

St Ives
If you want some photos of St Ives for your trip record let me know. They might be taken late September but we were told it was the best day of the 2008 summer. We parked in the carpark and took the stroll down to the town. The climb back is the puffing bit.

Wells and Joanne's wedding
Now that you have seen inside Wells Cathedral you will appreciate the magic feeling we had for Joanne's wedding. Joanne's friends put together a choir and string quartet and the organist was the organ scholar from Westminster Abbey. So everything about the occasion was more than memorable. Being a Friday afternoon at the height of the tourist season the body of the cathedral was full. Pleased you got the chance of a visit to the smallest city in England.

Did you try it?
Did you take the opportunity to try a sample of the spring water? Back in the day (post Romans) it was thought that the spring water had magical healing properties if you drunk a large glass of it due to its very high mineral content. Upstairs in the cafe you get a free sample glass of the water.....delicious (not!). I couldnt finish my glass of it and can still vividly remember the taste!

Howdy Happy Travellers.
Nice to see Murray managed to catch up with his Welsh cousies, one can see the resemblance! Gosh , watch those dodgy country drivers over there. The roundabouts sound handy though. The steam train stories have got Owen all fired up for more travel !! Handy Hint = Large N.Z flag would make good disguise for covert microwave.Keep on having fun.

Train trips from the past
Reading about your train trip up Mt Snowden must have brought back memories of our train trip over the Rimutakas on one of the last Fell engine trips. It went so slow we got off and walked beside it. Oops!! you were only 3.

The cuzzies eh?
So pleased you got to meet the Scottish cuzzies and even better to see some photos of them. I appreciate many Benvie mannerisms are probably there and yet we have been separtaed from that line for 2 generations-there's something to be said for genetics isn't there?

The Shambles
Did I see Great Aunty Gretchen with a walking stick in the photo of the Shambles? All that walking must be taking its toll. The people of the North do appear to get shorter.
