So pleased that you found the bar on the outside of the wall and pleased that the BBA could stretch to a couple of drinks out there. My call on which place wins as the most beautiful has to be Santorini....Dubrovnik is outstanding and between us Cormac and I took over 3oo photos while we walked about the wall, but Santorini has to win....the caldera, the whitewashing, the sea....

Cheap purchase
Perhaps you could sell up in Tauranga, buy the best of the bombed buildings, turn it into cheap accommodation and cater for the British backpacker. What a life!

Statue Park
Thats funny...we had assumed that the statue park was still under construction when we visited almost exactly two years ago...the statues were all there but no signs about what they were and no paths linking them all. Good to see that you couldnt resist the temptation (like us!) to do silly poses with the statues!

Budapest
*lol* at your photos from the Statue Park. You shoulda got Midget Ma to stand next to that massive Commie soldier holding the flag to show how HUGE he is! Big ups for making it to the top of the hill to the Liberty Statue as well! I remember looking at that from down beside the river and thinking it would be cool to go up there but flagging it at the idea of sweating my a$$ off up that massive hill! :-)

Durnstein yes my screen saver!
Delighted to see you at least sailed past Durnstein-this was my favourite place on the whole trip and I have a screen saver photo taken of Durnstein and the church on my laptop. The Wachau is an amazing part of the Danube. Pity you didn't get to explore the Monastery at Melk it is very impressive iside and it ceryain ly commands the area around it from the cliff top

Good memories
Looking at your photos brings back some nice memories of Budapest - we have some very similar photos from our time there :-) Sounds like you're starting to come across the problem that constantly plagued our European Adventure, where every second old building or church was either closed or covered in scaffolding for renovations!!

Hotel Name...
Your hotel name is the Attila Hotel? As in the Hun? :-) *lol*

Cathedral
That cover has been on the cathedral since we were there in May 2006!! It looked exactly the same when we were there....

Hahaha...poor Daddy. Have you been demoted from your O.I.C Navigator post? Consider including the post code of the hotel next time.....? Those Europeans are usually mad on their post codes.....

Great Advise
Hi guys, I think Rin's advice is very sound. As I was reading your tale, I thought, OMG imagine if one had kept your passports and one had taken you away - that would have been that..... goodbye to that infamous budget - farewell to all the interesting tales for us back home!! Take Care, CB

Birkenau & Auschwitz
Thinking of you both as you recover from this experience. Beyond belief isn't it. Here is a "BIG HUG" for you both.

Foreign menus
So you fell prey to the trick of foreign menus! :-) My downfall was a nice seaside cafe in Croatia where I ordered "lemon-fried fish" and was really looking forward to a nice big fillet of fish turning up...only to receive a plate full of crispy fried whole sprats...eyes, scales and all! The cafe cat ate very well that day!

Dog's nose
Did you know that the original purpose behind rubbing the dog on the Charles Bridge was if you had a secret that you didn't want revealed? Over time it's become more popular for it to mean you will return to Prague some day...just like throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain in Rome - which you also have to do! ;-)

From Prague by train
Your train trip into Prague reminded me of our trip from Prague to Vienna. Our three travelling companions in our compartment were heading to Vienna on business. No sooner had the train left Prague at 8:00am than these three had the sparkling wine open and began drinking and munching on green capsicums. Because of the limited conversation we were not invited to part take. Great to see Prague in the summer. We visited the castle in freezing rain. No beers for us just hot soup and hot chocolates. Have you been to Pilsen the home of... you said it pilsener?

The long avenue
Just a bit of history to add-the long avenue in Prague was the site of The Velvet Revolution in 1989-that's when the people said they had enough of Communism and things began to change. Hope you didn't strike any pickpockets on the bridge-its so crowded with people tat it is a popular spot for ligth fingered people!

Isnt it not too far from the Holocaust Memorial.....our guide on the excellent free walking tour of Berlin also pointed it out for us!!!
18th August 2009

the sign
the sign says that either two tanks with a weight of 30 tons or one tank with a weight of 100 tons can cross the following section (usually a bridge). And if you want to call it relic then it's more a relic of the cold war. At that time west germany was heavily fortified and prepared to fight an invading red army... ..have a nice time here!
18th August 2009

hi, the yellow sign is a militariy load class-sign, mostly in the near of military grounds. you'll often find it in front of bridges describing "traffic rules" because of the weight of a tank. and ... no, WW2 is over ..-;-))
17th August 2009

Road sign....
Perhaps the sign is to direct them to Poland....? I hear it only takes about 3 days to get there in a tank... :-p

No Worries
Howdy, you should be fine getting off that parking ticket. Just write them a big blurb and post it off just before you leave the country. Kerrin and I did just that when we were given a parking ticket in America. We thought good luck to them if they want to chase people across the oceans - We never heard anything. (Oh and if you enlarge your photo of the red light area - you can see the 'lady' in the door way..... Christine

Similar photos
Enjoyed your similar shots to ours in Amsterdam. An interesting place and the idea of crsuing for a party takes on a whole new meaning there!

Brighton
If you're really intent on checking out Brighton some more, about 1 day should do it as there's *really* not much to see there aside from the Pier and the big weird Indian-style palace that one of the Prince's built back in the day. Unless you're a gay man and/or into trance music raves, Brighton's really not a highlight...
