Shelly Pope
My name is Shelly Pope. I am the managing editor of a weekly newspaper in a small town in Texas.
Although I lived in Alaska for four years, Texas is where I was born and raised and there is no end of beauty and history to be found in this great state.
I have been writing for over 19 years for various news publications, but have found true joy in traveling and seeing the hidden treasures of Texas.
I have three girls who are spread out across the country with one in Portland, Oregon, one in Daytona, Florida and one in Arlington, Texas. I am also the proud grandmother of a beautiful baby girl, who I do not get to see often enough.
I hope you enjoy my accounts of small town, historical and hidden Texas.

University of Saskatchewan Nursing Students
We are a group of five recently graduated Nurses from the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at the University of Saskatchewan. We are honoured and privileged to have been selected for the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarship that sent us to work for ten weeks in health care in Uganda. For the first five weeks, our focus is on rural and community health in the Rugazi district in Western Uganda; the following five weeks will be spent at the University of Mbarara teaching hospital working on various wards.
We are so excited to be here, and hope you enjoy reading about our adventures and work here in Uganda.
