Geo: 28.2636, 83.9724Another merciless day. Oh and Hi blisters, where have you been all this time? I was already wondering. But you really didn't need to show up all at once! (6...) And those never ending steep stone steps. Or more precisely piled up rocks. Up and down, all day. Just putting one step before the next one, like a robot ;) But somehow I made it. The views were good though. Hiked through rainforests along waterfalls, crossed rivers and creeks on suspension bridges and walked through mountain villages. Arrived in Pothara 7 hours later and enjoyed the rare hot shower :) Sunset was spectacular too since we can see the whole Annapurna Mountain Range from here. Und wieder ein gnadenloser Tag. Oh und Hallo Blasen, wo wart Ihr denn die ganze Zeit? Hab' mich schon ... read more

Geo: 28.5295, 83.8786Another ice-cold night mastered. With double blankets! ;) Slept well and my knees recovered too. At least to the point that I could use 'em for today's 4 hours of ups and mostly downs. As we slowly make our way out of the Himalayas we loose altitude bit by bit. Which is good because the days and nights are getting warmer again. Early afternoon we arrived in Jhinu and got rewarded for our tough Trek with a visit to the cozy hot springs down by the Modi Khola River.

Geo: 28.2636, 83.9724Got up very early to watch the sunrise. Which was no problem since I had cold feet all night and couldn't sleep in the freezer-room we slept in (no heating at 20*F...). Even though I kept all clothes on. After breakfast we started our way back down. Another day under blue skies. Just as with "Nemo" a couple of months earlier in Australia the search for "Yeti" requires patience. A lot of patience... ;) The hike back down from 12,390ft to Sinuwa Guesthouse at 7,020ft was pure torture for my knees and ankles. Because for almost the entire time of 7 hours we were hiking downhill. If I finish this trek without breaking a bone or the need of knee surgery I will be just as happy as about the pictures I suffered for ... read more

Geo: 28.5958, 83.8209Fairly easy hike today. Since we covered a long distance yesterday we only needed about 4 hours to make it to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). Stopped by Machhapuchchhre Base Camp (MBC) for a lemon tea and to catch our breath. One can tell the air is getting thinner. Even today we still had to cover more than 2700ft elevation gain. Francis and I didn't feel any altitude sickness. But others were not so lucky. And then we finally reached the Base Camp (12,390ft) WE MADE IT! :D Happy!!! (Annapurna Peak 24,273ft) A little later we witnessed a spectacular sunset when all the snow peaks around us turned golden-orange in the vanishing sunlight. But soon after the temperature dropped to about 20*F and everybody huddled together in the tea house for dinner where a gas ... read more

Geo: 28.2636, 83.9724Today was brutal. The trail went not only steeply up and down but was at times not more than a washed out path with treacherous rocks and tree roots. Not to mention crossing rivers on flimsy makeshift bridges ;) But the views were good and most of the time we were walking in the shade through dense overgrown forests. My knee is killing me too. After a long, at times agonizing day we finally reached our destination up at 9690ft, the guesthouse Deurali. At first we were happy to hear that they had hot showers. But that lucky feeling didn't last very long when Francis found out that the boiler broke. So we both used the fast vanishing sunlight to quickly wash ourselves at the cold water dish washing place outside the guesthouse. Again ... read more

Geo: 28.2636, 83.9724Woke up to a spectacular panorama outside the guesthouse under blue skies. Today's part of the trek was a series of steep ups and downs. But at least the trail was well maintained. So it was quite easy to hike. And the views were amazing throughout the day. Checked into the Sherpa Guesthouse in Sinuwa, unfortunately without any heating.

Geo: 28.2636, 83.9724The clock sounded alarm at 4:45AM! But after a 1-hour hike up Poon Hill in polar temperatures as part of an endless stream of foreigners we were awarded with a spectacular view watching the sunrise over the Annapurna Range :)After returning to Ghorepani we had breakfast and went off to our next destination. The trail was pretty steep and rough. And after a while I felt my knee pains again. Especially going downhill. Something that started on a trek in Patagonia 3 years ago. But eventually I made it to our guesthouse for tonight, the Mountain Discovery Lodge in Chuile. With amazing valley views and a hot burning stove in the tea house :)Der Wecker klingelte um 4:45 Uhr! Geo: 28.3998, 83.6984We got up early for a tough day ahead of us. Including a stairway of 3280 stone steps! and a elevation gain of 4200ft ! But with spectacular views along the way and a hike through a huge rhododendron forest. Arrived in Ghorepani (Alt. 8400ft) in the afternoon, exhausted but happy. OK, mostly happy about the end of today's hike ;) Since none of the Sunny Hotel rooms have heating and temperatures dropped to freezing point everyone huddled together in the tea house for the rest of the evening.

Geo: 28.2111, 83.959Got picked up by my mountain guide Bunu and our porter Tulsi (estimated age: 13!) Needless to say none of us would let her carry our bags. But WTF, shouldn't she be in school? But then again, later that day we saw another teenage girl carrying a 30kg! rice bag up the mountain. Nuts! Then we headed for the airport to pick up the other traveler Francis and were on our way to the starting point of the trek to the Annapurna Base Camp or "ABC" about an hour away from Pokhara. Once we got there we hiked through a beautiful valley up to our first destination, the guesthouse Sushma in the small village of Hille. Chatted with French travelers and had fun with the staff eating dinner in the kitchen. Wurde von unserem ... read more
