Geo: 26.0203, 76.3443What a rip-off! The MonsterWedding (more than 2000 guests) was just about winding down when i got up at 4AM, picked up at 4:30AM and driven to the Tiger Safari sales office. Stood in line until 6:30AM in the freezing cold, got my damn ticket, drove back to the hotel and waited for the Safari Jeep to pick me up. Late, of course, we started our Safari around 10AM and for the next 2 hours saw exactly: Nothing! No tiger, no hyenas, no crocodile, no bear, no nothing! All park animals according to the brochure. A complete waste of time and money, this so called Ranthambhore NP and "Tiger Reserve". And apparently I was lucky to only do this nonsense once. There were other travelers in my tour group who tried 3 of those ... read more

Geo: 26.0202, 76.3452Left the City of Agra in the morning to escape the pollution and be able to take a deep breath for once at the Ranthambhore National Park and Tiger Sanctuary. The ride took us all day due to the poor road conditions, insane traffic and apocalyptic towns we had to drive through. Seriously, I think most people here are living in deeper poverty than rural areas in Cambodia or Indonesia. I saw utterly neglected naked kids playing with fire on landfills which once were riverbeds, men defecating on the sidewalk and women with burkas! urinating in a way that everyone can see their butts... Dignity must be rare in this country. The reason why I write those details is because no one ever does in the guide books. Even though I have seen those ... read more

Geo: 27.1661, 77.9865Beat the noise today by waking up at 5AM and getting picked up by my driver (who only speaks broken English) at 6AM to avoid the Delhi morning traffic. Just before Agra we stopped to check out the giant Mausoleum area of Sikandra built "by" and for the Mogul Akbar. In the afternoon I went to see the Taj Mahal. And even though people were stepping on top of each other for the picture-postcard photo it was surprisingly enjoyable and a very impressive building. Although the interior was rather small and simplistic. Nevertheless, definitely a highlight of my trip! Geo: 28.6137, 77.1834The usual 5:30AM fireworks call. But I found out what they celebrate. It's the birthday of a 14th Century Guru. But why they need to make noise at 5:30AM is beyond me.Went to the Red Fort today. But except for the gigantic walls and gates there isn't much to see inside. Other than decaying buildings. The back wall is even missing entirely. But the Fort once must have been vast by Western standards. Then I strolled to the Jama Majid Mosque. Also a gigantic building complex. But how people "live" in the area around it is horrifying. If you wanna get a realistic view of what the time after the apocalypse would look like, that's the place! Oh wait...in 23 days you'll find out anyway! Never mind! ;)Met my friend Mirabelle and her family ... read more

Geo: 28.6137, 77.1834There's one thing about "Incredible India" you'll understand incredibly fast. The second you leave the airplane you're a permanent target. Seen as nothing but a walking cash machine. Absolutely no genuine interest about you or where you come from. Despite the questions. From the 36 countries I visited in my life i would consider India as the one with the most unwelcoming atmosphere towards foreigners. As soon as someone is talking to you all they are really interested in is the content of your wallet. You cannot trust anyone with anything. Or believe anything they say. 9.5 times out of 10 they only wanna lure you into something. Now, of course that happens everywhere in the world if you travel but nowhere have I ever experienced it 24/7 like here.A lot of other people would ... read more

Geo: 28.6137, 77.1834At 5:30AM I abruptly woke up to fireworks going off followed by chanting and a song performed by what sounded like a big crowd down in the narrow alleyway. Shortly after, the cleaning hotel staff made sure there was no turning back to sleep. Since the hot shower didn't work again I informed the hotel manager. Who by the way is so rude that I already considered moving to another hotel. Watching the staff trying to fix the problem (which obviously is caused by a lime deposit inside the vent) is almost comical if it wouldn't be my shower. But there are nice surprises too! A post on Facebook revealed that my old friend Mirabelle from Canada is visiting her family in Delhi. Haven't seen her in 2 years and now she is here ... read more

Geo: 28.6137, 77.1834Took the Metro to central Delhi with its impressive government buildings and the India Gate. By the way, a ride in the Metro is an experience in itself. The "people shuffle" is incredible! And the subway no place for claustrophobics. Then I walked towards the shopping district Connaught Place, a gigantic circular square if you will ;) On the way I came by a big mosque where Muslims celebrated a holiday and hundreds of street vendors selling mostly unidentifiable food. At the central Place happened to be a big music and performance festival too. It felt like the whole city gathered there. But more likely it was just another ordinary Sunday in Delhi ;)Nahm die U-Bahn zum Stadtzentrum mit seinen beeindruckenden Regierungsgebaeuden und dem grossen Indien Tor. Geo: 28.6137, 77.1834Went to the airport and through 4 security checks. It's very assuring to the traveller when they don't even trust their own security...Another oddity of the Kathmandu Airport is the gender separation at any security check. That goes so far that even at the Tarmac before you enter the airplane where they check your bags again men have to form a line to the right and women to the left. For whatever reason.Got to Delhi and immediately overwhelmed. The slogan "Incredible India" is not an overstatement... When we got closer to the hotel we had to leave the Taxi behind and walk the rest because there was some kind of high school parade festival thing going on. The free food giveaways and the absence of any garbage cans created a mud you didn't even ... read more

Geo: 27.7029, 85.3182Like a Swiss clock the erupting noise from the street woke me up at precisely 7:30AM. Went to a cafe nearby for breakfast before I ventured out to the temple district of Kathmandu. Later I took a Tuk Tuk to the other end of the town, Patan. This is the oldest part of Kathmandu and has an extraordinary Nepalese architecture as well as museums and thousands of little vendors in alleyways like labyrinths, selling all kinds of crafts. It's a place where you still see women going to the public wells for water and monks roaming the streets in their orange robes. After sunset I let me drive back one last time through the virtually lawless evening traffic of Pollutmandu.Praezise wie eine schweizer Uhr weckte mich der morgendliche Strassenlaerm puenktlich um 7:30 Uhr. Geo: 27.7029, 85.3182Last day on the trail. Some good panorama views of the Himalaya Range. Back in Pokhara we tried to book me a flight back to Kathmandu. But too pricey. Then the hotel shuttle driver said his brother is driving one of those local micro buses on the Pokhara-Kathmandu route. Packed my bag und said goodbye to Francis, Bunu and Tulsi. Officially those micro buses have seats for 16 people. But here they cramp a lot more people and bags in. In our case we were 22 plus 1 baby! With extra furniture on the roof! Along the way we were hailed down by two anxious soldiers who apparently were left behind by their truck and hung onto our micro bus until we caught up with their gang. Crazy ;) Sometimes it seemed all few ... read more
