Geo: 13.4691, 104.041The ruins of Angkor, Day 3! In the morning I went to the Angkor National Museum in Siem Reap. Great exhibitions about the Khmer Empire. In the afternoon I went back to Ta Prohm for a last time because the light was better today. Got some great photos :) Had another delicious dinner (Beef Lok Lak) and even better massage!Die Ruinen von Angkor, 3.Tag! Am Morgen besuchte ich das Angkor Nationalmuseum. Geo: 13.4691, 104.041Lost cities of Angkor, Day 2! Today the driver took me on the so called Grand Tour, into the extended area of Angkor. First stop Phnom Bakheng then Preah Khan, Neak Poan, East Mebon and Banteay Kdei. It is absolutely amazing what the Khmer Empire was able to build here between the 9th and 16th century. And worth to be called a wonder of the world. Especially considering the heat and humidity! Oh, almost forgot, I saw a Cobra in the jungle today :)Every temple is surrounded by swarms of people trying to sell anything and everything at any given time. No escape for westerners ;)On one occasion a girl tried to sell me something and as usual I kept repeating: "No, thank you!" when she all of a sudden smiled and replied in ... read more

Geo: 13.4256, 103.86Booked a driver for the day and went into the Angkor Archaeological Park (400sqkm). First stop Angkor Wat! Wow! What a gigantic temple complex. One can literally spend hours there. Then I went on to walk through the even bigger complex of Angkor Thom, Bayon (9sqkm) and the famous Ta Prohm, the "Tomb Raider Temple" where they filmed the Lara Croft-movie. Got home exhausted. The humidity level is unparalleled! Buchte einen Fahrer fuer den Tag und fuhr in den Angkor Archaeologischen Park (400sqkm). Erster Stop Angkor Wat! Wow! Was fuer ein gigantischer Tempelkomplex!

Geo: 13.4256, 103.86Since I was glued to the fascinating "Gardens by the Bay" until late last night I only got about 3 hours of sleep before I had to pack for the airport. Got there at 4:30 and checked in with Tiger Airways again. As we took off I was rewarded with a beautiful sunrise. Arrived in Phnom Penh at 8 and organized a bus to Siem Reap. Ending up with a bus company locals use rather than the fancier tourist buses I was the only westerner and curiosity in the vehicle ;)The downside of it was that those buses stop frequently which resulted in an 8-hour trip to Siem Reap. Then I took a Tuk Tuk to my Holiday Garden Guesthouse run by an expat from Australia. After a nap I checked out the local ... read more

Geo: 1.28941, 103.85Went to pick up my new iPod. And they really were able to get one for me overnight. I'm feeling like a lost limb got reattached ;)Checked out the extraordinary stylish interior design of the new ArtScience Center and the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Had a $20 drink at the rooftop bar "Ku De Ta", of course ;) But the true star of Singapore's recent urban development is the creation of the new 101 hectares public botanical "Gardens by the Bay". 8 years ago there was only reclaimed wasteland. Now there are sustainable structures like the "Cloud Forest", the "Flower Dome" and the fantastic awe-inspiring Supertree Grove with an half-finished new IndoChine bar on top of the tallest tree. Incredibly when I was there late at night I had the whole bar for myself ... read more

Geo: 1.28941, 103.85Got up and walked through the rain to the Apple Store to exchange or fix my broken iPod. Next problem. No repair possible. They can exchange it under the warranty. But unlike in the US or Europe you have to wait 3 days for the delivery. WTF! Why could Apple Australia not tell me when i called them that i had to wait 3 days in Singapore for a replacement? I could have booked my flight accordingly. It's bullshit anyway! Now i only have 24 hours. After some heated discussion they agreed to make it happen somehow. Well, will see. My old iPod i had to leave with them. Also, no one could reasonably explain to me what happens to all the data on those returned iPods. Damn Apple update! Then i strolled through ... read more

Geo: 1.28941, 103.85Early afternoon i flew from Bali to Singapore with cheap JetStar again. By the way, Singapore, if you wanna welcome visitors don't put rude and lazy staff at the airport train ticket counter who rather sends people to overcrowded ticket machines than selling them one. What a funny coincidence. After 8 years i am back almost to the day. Also back in my hostel, the InnCrowd. Not much has changed except for the now free but slow internet and the flatscreens. Went out for dinner in Little India with some fellow travelers and slept like a baby.Flog am Nachmittag von Bali nach Singapore mit JetStar. Geo: -8.72412, 115.17Picked up my laundry. Researched the internet for tickets to Cambodia and back. Change of plans. Instead of going overland from Singapore via Kuala Lumpur into Thailand to Cambodia i fly from Singapore to Phnom Penh take the bus to Angkor Wat. Come back to Phnom Penh to visit the "Killing Fields" of the Khmer Rouge and museum. And fly from Phnom Penh to KL and continue through Malaysia to Thailand. It's cheaper and saves time. First flight booked with Tiger Airways for 68$. No prob. Second flight with Air Asia. Problem! Credit card declined. What!? Call to CC company, everything is fine. Mmh. Turns out VISA terminated the partnership with Air Asia. So no one with VISA can book a flight online. Found a sales office 5km away and made it there just ... read more

Made our way back to Kuta through southern Bali's traffic inch by inch. Dropped my laundry off and had a cool Bali Hai and massage...Nahm die Faehre am Morgen (2 Std) zurrueck nach Padang Bai. Geo: -8.35032, 116.043Actually the plan was to check out Meno, one of the other two Gili's. But i didn't feel like moving again and spend more money to get over there for one night. So me and Karl stayed while Shabe and Rachel went to Meno. Good thing i stayed. Because it pretty much rained all day. And by rain i mean open floodgates! So nothing much happened all day. Except watching in awe how much water gets dumped during the beginning monsoon season. ... read more
