South America October 19th 2009

Hi it is Nitzan, My brother Omer told you about Cañon Colca (Colca canyon) and I am going to tell you about Titikaka Lake. We arrived to Puno the city that is right beside Titikaka Lake. The next morning we took a tour to 2 days in Titikaka Lake with a boat. The Peruvian part makes 65% of the lake, and 35% is the Bolivian part. The first day we sailed to islands that are called Los Uros. They are the only 'floating islands´ in the world. they are called floating islands because they are made of plants and grass. The grass is growing by himsef in the water without touching the ground. Every month they have to cut the grass so it dosen´t grow to tall. Their houses are made of the grass as well. ... read more

As I promised in my last entry, I will dedicate this entry to eating in Peru. In general, we were positively surprised from the food - there is a great variety, and the food is generally tasty and well seasoned. The king of the kitchen and the most common is the chicken. There are so many restaurants dedicated of roasted chicken 'pollo ala brasa'. The queen of the local kitchen is the potato - and there are tens types of potatoes in the market - red, white, small, big and many more kinds that I cannot describe. Therefore, chips or french fries is the most common side dish ('patatas fritas'). But, this kind of food is nothing special, the more interesting typical food includes Guinea Pig called 'Cuy' - yes, these are the little cute creatures ... read more

South America October 16th 2009

Hi, this time it is Omer. After leaving Cusco (on which my sister to9ld you all about) we went to Arequipa. In Arequipa we went to the main plaza and fed the pigeons. We also fed them from our hands. It was a lot of fun. In the afternoon we went to a cinema to watch a movie off course called Land Of Lost or in Spanish La Tiera Perdida. It was about dinasoures. The cinema was in a very clean mall, and we also had dinner over there in Burger King. Next morning we went by bus almost the whole day to a small vilage called Cabanaconde. We slep there one night and the next in the morning we went straight to a canyon called Colca Canyon for 2 days. The first day we walked ... read more

South America October 12th 2009

Hi, it is Nitzan again (that did not write a long long time) In Cusco after we did the Machu-Pichu my dad, Omer my brother, and me did Rafting the whole day, it was super fun. The first time Omer and I did Rafting in our life. Now, I am not sure what is funner the boogie and sand boarding or the rafting. After the Rafting there was lunch, showers, and sauna. The sauna was really warm but I was freezing from the water so we took off our wet suits and entered to the sauna with swimming-suit and we were fine. Now I will write about the trip to 'Manu' that we did 3 weeks ago! Manu is a jungle national park. It took us a very long time to reach it - about 10 ... read more

My mother already told you about the places we visited after Huaraz, but I want to add some things. In the Boogie I felt wierd because we all laughed, and screamed, and the driver was like normal and driving likeon a normal road. But the last 2 jumps and turns were really strong and bumpys,Shachar cried a little bit because they were so strong and he got hurt, but for me they were fun! Omer and I sat in the front beside the driver but the last bit Omer changed with Shachar (my little brother). Huacachina was super fun!!!!!!!!!!! The last couple of days, were really full and exciting and I will do my best to describe it to you from the beginning. We left Huaraz (the last location I have reported on - you know, where we walked the difficult trek) at night, and took a night bus to Lima. We had a very good journey, and made it in only 7 hours (instead of 8). After less than an hour wait in the bus terminal, we hopped on another bus and rode it for 3 hours more arriving in Paracas. A short ride with a minivan, and we were at the pier negotiating a price for a tour to the “Islas Ballestas” - 'Galapagos for the poor', as some call it. For the poor in money it is indeed, as the boat trip ... read more

What can I tell you about our happenings, since my previous entry, that was made even before we have taken the flight to start our journey - so many things have happened. Well, Since Nitzan wrote you a little about our flights to Lima, and about our stay in Lima, I will jump directly to our last week, spent in Huaraz, situated 8 hours north of Lima. Well, first, I am happy that I can write you, that means I came back from the “Santa Cruz" trek. Though I am back, I cannot say I am in one piece, because I have just learned about the existence of muscles I was not aware I have in my body - and now that they are aching and contracted, I have come to know them. Nitzan is writing ... read more

On Saturday morning we arrived to a town called Huaraz, after an 8 hours night bus ride. It was a 2 floor bus with TV and Internet Service. Huaraz is a very high and cold town. It has high mountains with snow. We dressed up in the morning after arrival and went to a mountain that's cold Pastoruri. Its a mountain of 5,200 meters! On the way to the mountain we bought special leaves that are called “coca” that helps you to not get a headache when you chew them, but their taste is gross and they didn't help us. But my mom, two brothers and I didn't do this trek only my dad did it because we were all sick because we weren't get used to the height. So we stayed in the minibus two ... read more

Today, it is my turn (Nitzan) to write. It all started on September 7th, 2009: At 4:30 p.m we showerd, dressed up, got in the car, drove to the airport and got on the plane. The flight was 14 hours. In the flight there were good movies one of them was "night in the Museum 2" each seat had its own TV and own remote (that was also a phone and a PSP). I read a book. I didn't realy sleep a lot. When we landed I felt in my belly butterflies. we flew from Tel-Aviv to Sao Paulo, and from Sao Paulo to Lima, Peru. Before we flew to Lima we had a 2 hours connection. The second flight was 5 hours. In the flight there was a movie of Hanna Montana, it was a ... read more
