Cambodia - 10 Days I entered Cambodia intending to pass through quite quickly because it is a small country that is sadly surrounded by countries, which provide the same, but better - e.g the jungle is nicer in Laos and the beaches better in Thailand. I did spend 10 days there and found it very interesting, although I found myself happy to leave as I found it a little depressing; the people are very poor and I was constantly reminded about the genocide inflicted on the people by the western supported Kymer/Khmer Rouge (Pricks). I entered from the Si Phan Don area in Laos and went straight to Banlung, via Stung Treng, to visit the Yeak Laom Volcanic Lake, A 700,000 year old volcanic crater lake considered sacred by the local tribal minorities, which was pretty ... read more

Laos - 17 days I crossed the border into Laos from the Northern Thai town of Chiang Khong and took the slow boat down the Mekong River to the impressive Luang Prabang. The boat ride was quite cramped, they got a good price from us tourist folk and they knew how to take advantage of that, there were many complaints from the elderly passengers. The scenery however was fantastic, especially the second day, I felt happy as a pig in shite as I smoked a few at the less cramped back of the boat. Luang Prabang Luang Prabang has both historic and natural places of interest. The town is full of temples, from different periods of its long history and is today a very important spiritual place; I awoke at 5am to watch the locals’ line ... read more

Thailand - 31 days So we started with a few days in Bangkok to check out the billions of Buddhas, temples and the suspicious reptilian ngah creatures which accompanied most temples. We also got ringside seats to a kickboxing match. Then we jumped on the night train to Chiang Mai to check out more temples and here with went on a 3 day jungle trek, including some bamboo rafting and an elephant ride. From Chiang Mai we headed south via the amazing former kingdom of Sukothai which is now a historical park containing many temple and buddha ruins, it was a great day cycling around from one temple to the next. Continuing south we made friends with the Macaque monkeys in Lopburi then we continued south passed Bangkok heading to the Gulf of Thailand to relax ... read more

Croatia - 1 Week As I cycled into Croatia I was surprised to feel deja vu, the mountains and the vegetation reminded me of cycled into Austria but the weather the first night was shite meaning I woke up in a puddle. The coast from Dubrovnik until Sibenik was beautiful particularly around the islands of Hvar and Korcula, I cycled north along the Adriatic coast through Dubrovnik, and then took a ferry to arrive on the island of Korcula, continued from east to west along Korcula, through vineyards and along the rocky coast, and left on a ferry to Split. Dubrovnik was another really cool medieval town, as was Split but the latter was much bigger and more developed. The nicest town I came across on the Adriatic coast was Trogir, north of Split, a really ... read more

Montenegro Montenegro is quite small, it took me 2 days to pass through it. Kotor was really cool, and was my first Adriatic medieval style town surrounded by an impressive city wall and filled with marble streets and buildings. I cycled along the coast bewteen Kotor and Croatia, with its beautiful overhanging limestone cliffs, I labelled this part “the alveoli coast” due to the shape of the land which meant that I had to cycle 25 miles when I could have crossed with a decent sized bridge. I noted how the people of Montenegro seemed quite miserable, I didn’t see anyone smile, and I was smiling.... read more

Albania I cycled through Albania in about 4 days and 3nights and thought travelling through this country was like going back in time, with shitty roads, road-side abattoirs and unfenced oil-drilling rigs. The roads were really shit, the people were great, really friendly and hospitable yet very financially poor, the term salt of the earth rings home. I battled the roads and cycled through oil fields and saw cows hanging from trees, I was given a ride when my bike broke and shared beers with restaurant owners and evangelical christians, and the latter was so generous he even chased after me to give me a bag of food. The tourist spots I liked were Gjirokastra, a small hillside town in the south and the burial site of Skanderbeg with plaques to show off his victorious battles. ... read more

Greece - 16 Days I arrived in Athens and spent a couple of days to organise my equipment and to explore the city a little. I thought it was an interesting place to walk around, plenty of history with ruins everywhere, the acropolis was impressive, ruins atop a hill in the centre of the city. After 2 days in Athens I cycled to the Peloponnesse Island and began a circular route around the island until I crossed onto the mainland via the new Rio-Antirrio bridge, just after Patras. Peloponnesse I crossed the Corinth canal onto the Peloponnesse island and then cycled south passed the ruins of Mycenae, with its great strategic location and then continued south to Nafplio. I then continued south along the pretty coastline until I reached Leonidio when I turned inland to climb ... read more

New York - 13 Months After cycling around Europe I returned to New York to live. On 5th November 2006 me and Jo flew to Las Vegas and hired a convertible mustang to get married in a drive-thru chapel. We went for a long-weekend to Niagra Falls to see an amazing natural phenomena and top see how the Americans had ruined it with the usual money-making rubbish like fast-food restaurants and a weird number of wax works museums. In April we hired a cabin in the Catskills for Jo's 30th birthday and went to see a great ice-hockey game in Boston. During this time we also visited Canada a couple of times and Puerto Rico (see other blogs) ... read more

Puerto Rico - 9 Days We spent 9 days on the island of Puerto Rico, it’s a part of the U.S.A but I consider it a country and chose to eat corn flakes there aswell. We arrived in San Juan and used the first day to check it out, the main point of interest was the number of cruiseships delivering tourists to the city. We hired a car for a week and drove to the Arecibo Observatory, the World's Largest and most Sensitive Radiotelescope where they shot ‘Goldeneye’ and then we continued on and stayed in the beach town of Aguadilla. We spent the next day driving over the mountains/hills passing the Bosque Estatal de Maricao and ended up near La Parguera to sleep and take a little boat trip at night to see some fluorescent ... read more

Canada - 1 Week We flew in to Montreal for a week in Quebec so that I could obtain a visa for the U.S, I could meet the Family and to explore this part of Canada a little. We spent a couple of days in Montreal before heading north to stay with some of Jo’s family, since we had recently married. One family friend had a trophy room with many stuffed animals, from cats to bears to moose and I was disgusted but I was assured that all the animals were used for meat and could relax a little bit. Jo’s cousin had a gun so we all went out into the woods to shoot some cans Trophies nightmare The family was very welcoming and had made us a wedding cake. My favourite place that we ... read more
