I live in Beverly ,Massachusetts with my two daughters Maya and Maxanne, and my wife Karen. Karen and I cruised up the coast and across Alaska in the summer of 2008 our daughters Maya and Maxanne joined us for the cruise part of the trip. I love to travel and experience new things. In 2007 Karen and I drove cross country from Beverly Mass. to Corvallis Oregon to see America at ground level. We currently do weekly visits to somewhere we haven't been before. In the fall of 2004 when I was 54 years old they diagnosed me with the affliction ALS . Because of this stupid illness my arms don't work. For the last three years I haven't been able to hold a camera up to my face to take a picture. Because of that all the pictures on this site were taken with a small rangefinder camera mounted on my walking stick.

SUMMER VISIT TO DEER ISLE Karen and I made our annual summer trip to the coast of Maine for a week at the end of July. This year we found a wonderful waterfront cottage on Burnt Cove in Stonington on Deer Isle. The older house had just been completely rebuilt to the studs and was totally remodeled. They did a great job and all the fixtures were top of the line, which is unusual for a rental. It appeared that we were the first to have ever rented the place since the do over. Burnt Cove is beautiful fishing village a short drive from the center of Stonington. Stonington is an active fishing community and claims to land the most lobsters of any place in Maine. The house is only about 20 feet from the shoreline. ... read more

In July Karen and I along with our friends Carl and Bird visited Campobello International Park in New Brunswick Canada. This was the summer home of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s family. It’s a very lovely setting and must have been a peaceful retreat for him growing up and the place where he first experienced polio. This must have been an incredible annual journey before airplanes and automobiles. It took us over eight hours to drive there from Beverly. We enjoyed the day on the island visiting the homes and hiking the trails. The park is operated by the US and Canadian Park Service. The temperature was over 100 degrees today in Boston but it was barely in to 70's here with fog. ... read more

Maya and I made our annual pilgrimage to the Revere Beach Sand Sculpting Festival. Revere Beach on a Saturday night was a multi cultural world of excitement. The entire area was filled with thousands and thousands of people involved in all sorts of beach activity enjoying the wonderful summer evening. They were viewing the sculptures, swimming in the ocean, eating fried dough, devouring Italian sausages, flying kites, sitting in the sand, and waiting for the evening’s fireworks to start. The sand sculptures that were created this year all just outstanding. We were there for the judging and got to see all the artists. Being at the beach and looking at the sand sculptures was such a wonderful place to spend a warm July night.... read more

Hampton Beach Sand Castles 2011 Today Maya and I went to Hampton Beach to view their annual sandcastle competition. This seems like it’s going to be another lousy New England summer. This the last week in June and the high temperature today was 72 degrees, it was overcast with occasional showers. Though this didn’t keep the crowds away and Hampton Beach was packed. It took a half hour to drive the two miles from Route 1 to the beach. The sand castles were good but didn’t seem to have the skill edge of the Revere Beach competition. Maya took these shots for me. ... read more

Deer Isle, Maine July 23 to August 1, 2010 Thanks to our good friends Byrd and Carl we returned for a second year to beautiful Deer Isle. We enjoyed a week of perfect Maine weather, sunny, warm with low humidity. Highlights included a day trip to Schoodic Peninsula, a less traveled part of Acadia National Park, trips to Stonington, the spectacular house and garden tour in Castine to benefit the historical society, a performance of Flash in the Pan the local steel band, dinners with our good friends Kurt and Isobel who live in the area and just rest and relaxation. It has to be one of the most picture perfect places with every turn of the road postcard material. Maybe next summer we will be lucky enough to return for a third summer. ... read more

Revere Sandcastle Contest 2010 Sylvan and I took our second annual pilgrimage to Revere Beach to see the sand castle contest. Knowing that it was going to be a hot day we headed down early Sunday morning to try and beat the crowds. We arrived just before 10 and thanks to Syl’s handicapped placard we got a great parking spot. The sandcastles were impressive and it was great to see them after they were completed this year. The fish sculpture was by far our and everyone else’s favorite winning both 1st place and people favorite awards. Take a good look and you will see that there is a face inside the when you look through his gills. It is definitely worth the trip to see these sandcastles in person. Plus when you visit Revere beach you ... read more
