boo
Interesting about the taro---there are taro fields in Kuwai that we walked thru---maybe M will remember. Uncle l changed his shorts there ha ha. Also the book that politicisized me was Nation of Sheep about the overthrough of Chiang Kai-shek---you might enjoy it---same author as The Ugly American.

Cereal
Girl you guys are missing out. I buy it and eat it all the time and it is my little piece of home I have in China. You are right I don't eat any cereal I did in the states but it is cereal and beats the trick. Sounds like a fun trip and you are correct NO ONE can beat Free.

mwah
I'm so happy that your folks will soon be there with you both to smile, hug and kiss you and share China with you. Know that we come along in spirit and send hugs packed along with them. It's also the longest without seeing Martin for us too and now we have two kids to miss!! But we are so thrilled you are having this amazing adventure together and knowing you are growing stonger together only makes me smile more. From my heart to yours, love mama C

What an exciting and interesting evening! Glad you too the opportunity to do some drinking with them...and what a cute comeback you gave them! Glad you had some time with Maria to translate more of what you were seeing during the trip. Let's hope they ask you on another trip soon! What wonderful memories you will have of your time in China!

At least the bed was comfy!
I spent tons of time talking about you guys with my parents this week because they ran into my science teacher from high school's parents (in a restaurant in key west) and my former teacher is now teaching in bejing. So even my parents talking about you guys with them! I hope you are having fun on your many adventures! miss you tons.

Love your descriptions of the start of your trip...it is amazing that you went all day before Maria approached you...hopefully things got a little more comfortable and that more things were explained as the trip went along. Glad to know you are back home. Love you!

What a trip already! I'm amazed at how much you are able to keep up with it all and at such a fast pace. Maybe just use your hands to grab veggies next time and smile pretty sunflower!

SO TRUE
Our lives are much different this year than we could have every imagined. Pete and I are thankful you 2 both came to China otherwise we would have never met such a great couple.

Road Less Traveled
You will never look back and regret taking that "road less traveled". Some of us take it early on, some do it later, while others sit on the sidelines thinking "what if" or "if only". Glad you two took it early in your marriage...and who knows...you may discover that it will be the road you'll want to stay on! For those of us far away, we hope not...at least not the road that is so far away from all of us! Choices in life come hard for us all...and as you are becoming aware of, the children there must make some of their most important choices at a much younger age than we'd ever think of here in the States. What a wonderful revelation to you to realize that they are no less happy regardless of what choices are available to them! What a wonderful opportunity for all of us to be able to share your time there...and all that you are learning and seeing!

cheetos yay
What a fun weekend --glad you both enjoyed yourselves and were able to have friends over too! The shopping spree to Ikea and the mall to the Ole store were surely a find for you. These adventures and the new friendships will sustain you well while you continue your China journey, love, mamaC

skim milk
Ive actually found skim milk at both Jusco and Carrefour. No import prices on it either!
18th October 2009

sounds like you had a wonderful weekend...and its nice to have some "home" feeling to your weekend as well...and also sad to wonder what capitalism is doing to the entire world...as its getting harder and harder to find any mom/pop stores or any diversity in city to city, state to state, or country to country! Enjoy the start of a new week and know that you are making a change in not only the students lives, but yours as well!
14th October 2009

sorry!
Ok, I'm sorry, but I laughed my ass off. I'm glad everyone is doing well!

do I get the Gold star?
Wow...even your return was quite the experience...but it's so great to hear that you still rate it as a fantastic time...quite the adventure I would say!
13th October 2009

I get a gold star. :) Thanks for sharing your adventure, the good and the bad.
12th October 2009

Oh my!
Wow...scary entry...but so glad that all of you survived with just a few scrapes and bruises...sounds like the path less taken was not a good choice! What an adventure you will have to tell your children at some point in your life...one day they will hear this, look at their old mom and dad and not believe that you were ever capable of such adventure!:) But we all know better! Enjoy getting back to routine this week! Love you both!
11th October 2009

and the experiences continue!
wow...thanks for the sideline about the pigs blood tofu...and I will say no thank you to that meal right now...so please don't try and perfect that one Martin! From what I read it's supposed to be a cleansing to your body...so have you experienced that cleansing Martin?! (TMI no doubt on that one!!) Am so glad that you guys had such a great time on your vacation...even with all the bumps, scrapes and bruises! Looking forward to more entries on that. Also hope you can settle back into routine this week with classes...sounds like even the students were experiencing a little of the "nowism" by not knowing who was teaching where/when! Should make you feel better that they were in the dark as much as you guys were! Love you both!

WOW
what an amazing and sad start to your vacation and of course with the adventures continuing on once you actually made it there...without a camera to document all that you enjoyed or experienced. Glad to see your smiling faces on chat tonight and know that you are back at school and getting back to routine.
