Bored of my blogs yet? hehe On monday I went to little Rebecca's school with her and her mum, Zunni, because she invited me. It was their last day of term and a their certificate giving day. It was soooooo cute. They did like little performances, one girl read some poetry she'd written which was really good actually! Another girl did a dance, which was soooo cute, and then some other kids did a little play about the seasons where one girl had the most amazing butterfly costume on, I wanted the wings from it. So that was really nice, and it was really nice spending time with Zunni, as she's really lovely and so patient with me and tries so hard to help me speak spanish, she's awesome. The rest of the week was much ... read more

After spending two days moaning to anyone who would listen about how I was seriously missing pizza, I finally decided to ask Claire if there was anywhere that sells pizza, turns out there is! So last night she showed me how to get there. This place is like the Paraguayan equivalent of Pizza Hut, the pizza was soooo good, and the best bit of all, my whole pizza cost £1! Yes that's right, £1! For a pizza!!! It was possibly the highlight of my time out here... Which is a little sad I know, but I really like pizza! Also, Claire says she knows a good recipe for making pizza, and she'll teach me sometime. Which means when I get back to uni, no more shelling out £10 for a Texas BBQ, I'll be able to ... read more

So I've been here two weeks now... How weird is that? The time has seriously just flown, I feel like I've only been here two days. On saturday it rained. I never thought as an English person I would be happy to see rain. But I was. It was glorious and wonderful. The temperature has since been 25 degrees C which has felt deliciously cold. I wore a jumper. I'm dreading when the temperature will go back up to the 40s. On saturday evening I went to Anna and Matt's farewell dinner. (They're the English people I met at the airport) There was a big group of, of all different nationalities English, Paraguayan and Belgian. It was good fun. Anna did a fire poi routine on the corner of the street by a statue and one ... read more

In typical South American fashion the day after we got the internet all up and working in our house, they cut it off because we hadn´t paid this month/week/moment they decided we chould have. Here there´s no such thing as bank transfers or standing orders and for some reason I really don´t understand, Claire has to go to the capital to pay! So no internet again untill Tuesday. *sigh* It´s a crazy system where they don´t tell you you need to pay, they just cut it off. Ah well, such is life! This week has been pretty similar to last. I´m slowly talking to more people, mostly of the age of 5. They don´t mind so much that I make mistakes. Last night I went for dinner with the British guy I met at the airport ... read more

So here it is folks, the first proper blog from Paraguay. I appologise for how long it's taken me, but that is because my computer is so very British that it decided it couldn't talk to the South American internet system, presumeably because it's in Spanish, and being British, my laptop only speaks English. So I've had to wait for a wireless router to arrive and be installed. I could have used the internet cafes, but they're sooooo slow, and also I've been writing this blog in notepad on my laptop since I arrived and couldn't be bothered to write it all again on another computer. But it's all good now, as the wireless router arrived the other day, and was installed this morning. Hoorah. Before I say anything else I have to say that it ... read more

I appologise for my almost complete radio silence. I´ve been having internet problems, as my laptop won´t connect and the internet cafes here are very slow and very unreliable. We´ve ordered a wireless router which should hopefully arrive tomorrow and should hopefully mean that I can then have the internet in my house and then properly update this blog. I´ve been writing a massive blog in notepad on my laptop and can´t be bothered to write it all again on an internet cafe plooter, so hopefully you can wait. So yes, just to say I´m alive, all my luggage arrived with me, it´s very very hot here and sort of in the words of Hellogoodbye, I miss you (all) quite terribly!... read more

Now children, I'm going to tell you a story, a story of an epic and at times seemingly impossible quest. The quest for the Golden Tourist Visa into Paraguay. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin. I went into a London last friday, the train ticket costs £21. Already I was not a happy bunny. Anyway, so I get to London, and head off to the Embassy on High Street Kensington. Now normally as you walk around London you see this big Embassys with their flags and so on. I got to the Paraguayan Embassy and couldn't help but feel a little bit sorry for them. Theyw ere just on the 3rd floor of a non-descript building, no flags, and when I got there - only one room with two little desks in it. Bless. Anyway, ... read more

So here it is folks. This will be my blog where I'll keep you all updated on my adventures in South America. Right now, I'm still at home in Andover. My plane tickets arrived a few days ago, so next week I'm heading up to London to get my Visa. Then I'm all set. For those who might possibly want to come to the airport, I'm leaving from Heathrow, terminal 2, on Monday 3rd September at 4.45pm, so I'll be there to check in at around 2.30pm. For those who are in Egham, I shall be spending my penultimate weekend (the 24-26th Aug) in the country up with you. So if anyone is around, I'm thinking dinner on friday night, obviously paid for by one of you lot... :P No that part was a joke. So ... read more
