Today, we're going to the Isle of Skye. We took our pre-paid / pre-paid booked coach from Inverness to Skye. ₤14 for the 3.5 hour journey. The coach was packed and “everybody” was going to the Isle of Skye”. Its a popular destination for backpackers and German-speakers! They have good taste. We have good taste too. Luckily, we had pre-paid 'cos the going rate would have been 60 pounds for the two of us. Gulp! We got to Skye about 12:00, in the town of Portree. We were at the Portree Independent Hostel which was right in the centre of town in the old Victorian post office building. It's in a yellow building with a comfortable common room and a large dinning / kitchen area which is allocated in the original sorting room and has views ... read more

Hi Friends and Family! I had booked a 2.5 hour tour outside of Inverness. We were going on a cruise to Loch Ness! We went with a company called “ Jacobite” which laid on a coach and cruise for the reasonable sum of ₤30.50 for the both of us. We started at 9:15 and arrived at the Loch Ness 30 minutes later. We then took a cruise across the lake looking for Nessie. The water was mysterious, smoky, quiet and a bit dark. It felt like being in the throngs of a classic horror before the monsters came out! Loch Ness is part of the Great Glen, Gleann Mhor in Gaelic, and is a massive steep sided trench carved out by the Ice Age. The loch is 22.6 miles long and about 1 mile wide. The ... read more

Pack! Pack!! Pack!!! We're running out of clean clothes. 'Hope we can find a laundry soon. It should be feasible 'cos Inverness is near the sea.....apparently!! We got a free bus ride 'cos the driver hadn't got any change from ₤10. What a nice man! Once again, we took our pre-booked and pre-paid train from Aberdeen to Inverness. ₤7.50 for me and ₤3.75 for a child! Meanwhile, “The Small Young Gentleman” made himself comfortable by playing with Gordon and China, the two children nearby which was lucky as the train, which should have taken 2 hours, was 38 minutes late due to “signalling problems”. Ah well! We arrived in Inverness and it was looking good. Its a picturesque little town and I was looking forward to being near water. Its an old town filled with lots ... read more

'Morning! We're going out of town today. Hurrah! Our breakfast ( the best so far ) was hot porridge and milk, cereal, a Scottish breakfast with the usual stuff plus fried black pudding ( not really my thing! ), toast, ( bowls of prunes and fruit salad if you were so inclined ), pots of tea and hot chocolate, even “The Small young Gentleman” managed a plate of scrambled eggs. He particularly wanted the porridge 'cos I had tried to make it at home but I wasn't very good! Our coach was to leave at 11:35 from the Aberdeen Bus Station. I had decided that we would go to a little town called Banchory. ₤6.70 for me and ₤3.70 for “The Small young Gentleman” Return and we were on our way. We were on the intercity ... read more

Hi Friends and Family! After a refreshing sleep in which “The Small Young Gentleman” fell out of bed and I got up at 6 a.m. Again! We had an early breakfast at 7:30 and booked a taxi for 8:40 as our train was to leave at 9:10. We paid an extravagant 7.00 pounds. Gulp! I had pre-booked and pre-paid our reserved train seats for the 2.5 hour trip to Aberdeen - ₤10.00 for me and ₤5.00 for “The Small Young Gentleman”. We received free cans of Coca Cola Zero which they were promoting and used the journey to play “Happy Feet” and various other games on my Notebook until the battery ran out and I fell asleep. Going on holiday is exhausting don't you know! We arrived slighty before 12:00 and according to the station staff, ... read more

This morning I had a wonderful power shower. In a lovely bathroom. Ahhh!!! Breakfast was a full cooked one for me and just cereal for “The Small Young Gentleman”. Unsurprisingly, didn't like the sausages, baked beans or tomatoes! The plan today was to go on a Walking Tour. Yesterday, we popped into the Tourist Information Office who forgot to tell us that Bus 36 ( which we needed ) had been diverted and wasn't actually going to the bus-stop they had directed us to! Anyway, I saw a walking tour called “Saints and Sinners” and it was FREE. Yes please!! We had a great time and as you can see the pictures speak for themselves. The meeting point was at “Ryan's Bar” right at the far end of Princes Street for 11a.m. Our tour guide was ... read more

A 6 a.m alarm call. Wakey! Wakey!! Oh, I hate waking up early on holiday but somebody's got to pack up again and it isn't going to be “The Small Young Gentleman”! Today, we're going to Edinburgh. I had pre-paid our fare via the internet with a bus company called megabus.com. The combined fare for us both ( from Glasgow to Edinburgh on a journey of 1 hour and 18 minutes ) was ₤5,00! A bargain if ever I saw one. The journey was uneventful and indeed, people tended to commute between the two cities on a regular basis. We hadn't been able to use the Notebook so I had found a cafe at the bus station that enabled me "to connect" for about 20 minutes! We left Glasgow at 09:30 and arrived Edinburgh at 10:48. ... read more

Good Morning Friends and Family! After a cooked English breakfast for me and half a plate and lots and lots of cereal for “The Small Young Gentleman”, we went to the Glasgow University via the Kelvin Grove Park and the River Kelvin. As I said earlier, we were in the university district area and so the main campus area was a 20 minute walk away. Surprisingly, the weather stayed pretty dry with only short drizzles of rain. We visited the Hunterian Art Gallery and Museum which had exhibitions of weird and wonderful things spanning from abnormality in animals to amazement of new world culture at that time. There was also a floor dedicated to science and medicine which “The Small Young Gentleman” took a distinct shine to! After spending quite a bit of time there, we ... read more

I woke up at 06:00 in order to do last minute-minute tidying up, give away my still fresh fruit and veg to my student neighbours, do the last dish wash and wash my hair! Wash my hair? Well you never know!! We took the local bus to the Berlin Main Train Station ( Hbf ) and after hugs and goodbyes went on the Regional Train that had a stop-off at Schönefeld Airport. We arrived there a little after 12 Noon and after slight bag adjustments for the benefit of security control, went through with no problems at all. My belt didn't even beep. ....Probably, 'cos I wasn't wearing one!!!!! 'Since the “no liquid” rule still applied, we had to buy two bottles of expensive cola at €2,00 each in order not to die of thirst. We ... read more

Hi there Ladies and Gentlemen. I'm back! The Small Young Gentleman and I are going to Scotland. Today, we tidied my house after “The Summer Dinner Party” which I hosted on Saturday night. A 3-course affair of Honey Melon and Serrano / Parma Ham with spicy strawberry salsa, Baked Stuffed Salmon Trout with Tomato Zuchini Bake, Herby Rice, a Green Beans and Tomato side dish and boiled potatoes. For dessert, we had ice-cream, blue berries and strawberries. Coupled with prosecco, excellent red wine and shots of vodka well, it went down a storm but I digress! Anyway, by yesterday evening much packing still had to be done and a particular lovely man was helping me update, adjust and generally ensure that my new laptop/notebook was in tip-top condition! “The Small Young Gentleman” and I were going ... read more
