strong bussy peter !!! ja peter ... da is me men reisje toch za! hoe was u spaanse les eigenlijk meegevallen?
Ahhh that, yeah, don't worry ;)
Doing something of this magnitude takes planning and carefull consideration so it might take as long as untill i reach Bogota before i can go ahead with this. But don't worry, it is worth the wait ;P
Misschien
a quick reaction Dear Peter, i hope you are still in good shape after that boat-excursion. Well what I meant was the
following. In your entry " Still think it was a six" you wrote the following:" However I do feel like
adding that I have been thinking a bit already about the part that follows after that bit(the other
dimension bit) and I think that if I make it happen the way I would like it to be, it would take this
trip to a whole new level of awesomeness(yeye a whole new level...yet again xp). I would be
stepping in the footsteps of giants." It were these words, which puzzled me. I understood that
it was something really special which you had in mind, but unless I am mistaken, you never came
back on this issue, and that is why I wrote that the curtain remains closed and that you expressed
intentions which afterwards weren't disclosed. Perhaps I got something wrong? Then accept my
apologies. Other possibility. It is still too early to unfold your plans? But whatever, for the time
being it isn't entirely clear to me how exactly your adventure will proceed. That was why I said that
you were perhaps gaining some time to reflect and to do some improvisation work.
I must admit that sometimes "I am trying to read between the lines" and that is improvisation
on my side as well. About that best steak in the world, being served in Uruguay. That steak may
be the trigger but no doubt some other nice touristic things may make it worthwile visiting Uruguay? So altogether Uruguay may be a nice closure of your tour.
Helloo,
well no, I didn't really pause in panama, the weather was just not of the type that invites to be very active.
It wasn't very hot(roughly 33celcius) but it was very humid, which meant sweating from the moment the sun came up till about 2am when it cooled down(relatively though, it was still quite warm a night)
Uruguay is probably the last country on my trip, so its still some time away.
And no, I am actually not kidding, the main reason for me going to Uruguay is that, as I have heard, they serve the best steak in the world.
I was told it is considered a national insult to serve a steak that does not melt in the mount like a piece of icecream does on a hot summer-day.
And I am not sure what you mean when u say that I suggest doing things and afterwards dont actually do them, maybe if you are more specific ;o …
And well, what goes on behind the curtain is at times as much as a mystery to me as it is to you ;)
Cheers,
P.
Ye arroff course I pulled trough just fine as the blood of pirates courses trough my veins ;)
Well that's just silly ;) off course I welcome any comments from anyone regardless from wetter I know them or not, or in which language they wish to write. I even enjoy reading and replying to comments, so the more the better ;)
comments Hola Pedro,
Wondering how you are gonna survive that trip on your pampampam on a very wild sea i hope you let us know soon your arrival in colombia. I hope your piratesskill helps you to to feed the fishes not to much... Some people ask me why there are so less comments; some other people are afraid to write a comment in the english language and they think you wont publish it when it is written in dutch. Someone was also afraid that you wont like it because she doesnt know you really. I told her that all comments are welcome. Meanwhile i enjoy your entrys as much as the comments of other people (and i am sure i am not the only one! About your hear: you dont need the support or opinion from anyone, you can easily make your own decision, i think.
Big hug,
Sabine and papa
Is fatigue and improvisation taking over a bit ? Or are the high temperatues spoiling your plans ? I am sitting behind my computer living in a virtual world, whereas you are facing the real world.
Perhaps you are making a pause, a stop in order to create some time for reflection ? There
are indeed so many options and it isn't "always" easy to make the best possible choices. Let's
not forget that there are so many things to see and after all , time is running out. I fully appreciate
how difficult it must be to go for the real thing. Are you still to sort out a few options ? And are you
therefore gaining time? Perhaps all this stuff is manageable and is the real problem the tropical
climate. I don't exactly know how high the temperatures rise these days ?Extremely high, I suppose? About the seasons ? Is it winter time in Central America? And if so, it's difficult to
believe that the temperatures still can go up so high? This week you are going to board a
sailing boat for a trip which will last a couple of days. Hopefully this will cause some
refreshment. Thereafer you will be heading to Uruguay... longing after the best of steaks.
But you are kidding, I suppose? There must certainly be other reasons to visit Uruguay?
About your beard and long hair. It's upto you to decide but in my humble opinion it doesn't really
matter, and I am now going to be a little selfish, if it doesn't harm your zeal to rejoice us with
your regular reports. Sometimes these reports suggest many things but afterwards we don't
hear anything further about expressed intentions. In my foregoing posting I referred to looking behind the curtain, but as far as I can see, that curtain remains firmly closed, and last but not
least: making plans which work is like going to Ikea, buy yourself a package of accessories,
of which you are to make one piece of a furniture. Not easy, as we all will agree.
If Anna actually does want to contact me, email would be easiest.
And i am currently in the middle of a dilemma between continuing to grow my hair(i am curious to how it would look) or to shave it off(practicallity is king :x )...
And also can u let me know which is the last map u have, i lost track again...
the little swede... The swedish girl speaks perfect english and her name is Anna. I can tell her to contact you if you tell me how she can reach you. Or I can ask her what info I can give you... up to you my brother...
Now I'm jealous you'll get to meet her too! She's an amazing lady! You'll have to give her a biiiiiig hug from me!
btw: saw some of your latest pics, going punk? :P
the mystery remains Thanks for your reaction Peter. You are right. I was thinking of a location, but you leave us so
much in the dark that I couldn't think of anything else. Even now I haven't a clue. You say... you
may even call it freedom... a religion ?? an activity ?? I really don't know what this may be.
When I said that I excluded cities, I referred to the real sense of the word adventurous and not to the risk factors which are present in these cities. Never mind. I now expect that you will
come up with something completely unexpected. As I pointed out before... you are a very good
entertainer. You are capturing our attention with a lot of skill and therefore I am already looking
forward to receiving your next entry which was promised within five days. Will we then be
allowed to look behind the curtain ? Wait and see. A real mystery, isn't it ?
hmm i never claimed the giantfootstep thinge to be a mere location, in my mind it is so much more, some even call it freedom...
And i feel that u are slightly mistaken on the no-adventure in big cities, you seem to be forgetting that i am currently in latin america, where things go down a bit different than in europe ;)
talking to a girl in the Swedish language... quite a challenge André, I think it's easier to say something nice to a girl in Spanish than in Swedish. I used
to work with Swedish men and girls and I was very happy that together we could speak English,
otherwise I fear that the communication would have been very difficult. But, if I understand the
situation correctly, that Swedish girl lives in Bogota, which means that either she is able to
communicate in Spanish or in English and most luckily our wellknown traveller is now able to express himself very comfortably in English and since a couple of weeks also in Spanish.
So I am sure that Peter, if necessary, will be able to make clear his feelings very easily. I wish
him already all the best with perhaps this new adventure. Let us first wait and see whether this fits in his tight schedule. But knowing him better now and knowing his adventurous spirit there
is not the slightest doubt in my mind that also this time he will be master of the situation. Is
he a Vanmuysen or is he not ? Nice weekend everyone.
no idea what might be your next mysterious destination It looks as if you avoided prison just by an inch, after you were unable to pay a fine imposed by
the border police. This young man would have made your world trip a little bit longer and this was
certainly not according to your planning. May we say that this was your lucky day? You must have
made a good impression, but that discussion... six or zero might have turned out otherwise, I would think. The second item of your message is that suggestion that you are about to step in
the footsteps of giants. All this is very mysterious. I would think of something very, very
adventurous. Apparently only a few have preceded you... big cities are excluded because the
adventurous factor is nihil. May be it's time for a quiz. It is very doubtful that there will be a winner,
but if against all expectations there is one, what will be his prize. It must be something
worthwile and no doubt such a quiz will enhance even more the readers'interest in your travelblog.
Of course Peter all the foregoing is meant humourously. A little teasing isn't far away. But I really
don't understand the situation. Apparently you are still to find out whether you have "access" to
this mysterious destination? Apparently this place isn't all the time accessible ? You say that
you have still some research work to do, whilst we, on our side, have to continue our guess work.
I wish you all the best with what you are doing. Vamos Pedro. Come on Peter. Yes you can.
quick Hi pieje,
Even in CA you cant resist at the junBfood!!! but we did also visit the good belgian Quick in a place called Lessen (province Henegouwen)on our trip home from France on sunday. Let us soon know when you are arrived at your new destination. I hope the swedisch language is easier then the spanisch... ;-)
Well i have to do some active stuff aswell if i don't want come back to Belgium all phat and stuff ;)
Spanish is turning out to be really helpfull, although it is not really as fluent as i would like it to be.
Btw i arrived in Panama city last night(yes it came as a bit of a shock to me aswell;p )
;o ye that would be awesome actually because i have no idea whatsoever about colombia ;)
However i can't say exactly when i am arriving in Bogota, since i will be 'landing' in the north(my current guess is in about 3-ish weeks from now)
Cheers,
Peter.
Bogota baby! Hey Peter,
still loving the stories!!! This kind of stuff... one would think it's for movies and books only... but you my brother, are living it!
Now... Colombia... I happen to know a very lovely, friendly and GORGEOUS little Swede who's been working there for the last 4 years... She lives in Bogota but travels around a lot and is interested in meeting you... Of course to show you around... (she has seen a lot of the world too)
Warning though: her beauty might never let you go ever again!
If you are up for that... do let me know :-)
And dad: geen commentaar! :-P
Big hug from your BIIIIIG sister! Haha!
is there a barbershop in the neighbourhood ? Well, well I didn't see any pictures recently and therefore it escaped my attention. Either he forgot
his shaving equipment or he really wants to become a gringo?Recently I suggested that more and
more he was resembling to his father and now it would appear that he is beginning to resemble to
some "nice" monkeys. A big change I would say. But when it starts itching he will certainly look out
for a barbershop. Personally I am of the opinion that more and more is trying to play the tricks of a
magician He is telling us nice stories, carrying us away and each time when we are waiting for
the happy end he is seeking an excuse with the message: I will tell you more next time. Is he trying
to keep up the attention, stir up the suspense? I am suspecting him to do so. Presently I am
wondering: what he is going to do in Central and South America ? Will he fulfill his world trip ?
When being in Buenos Aires will he remain there for 4/5 weeks to learn dancing in a flexible way
the tango ? Will he try to avoid(when tango dancing) the girl's toes? All these questions remain
unanswered! Will he do some horse-riding ?Hopefully we will get those answers in the next episode, sorry next entry. Thanks beforehand Peter. You are a marvellous entertainer. We
already look out for your next stories/tricks. Signed an interested reader.
hi jacques I want to appologize for not answering you comment of may 2nd. I did just read it now because i wasnt visiting piejes blog until yesterday. We keep contact now by mail and skype to talk about casual things (mostly food and meals);its an easy way to tell a lot and sometimes i can see him on cam. Now i have to warn you, if you ever consider to go on skype to see peter live: dont be scared !!!! He has a totally different look... I think the monkeys in south-america will recognise him immediatly.
In case you want to call him (its totally free)i can learn you all about skype now.
O yes, before i forget it: my anonymious comment was no mistake... I hope Pieje dare to leave this comment on his blog
;-)
greets
papa of the great pieje
nice prospects but difficult decisions are still to be taken Dear Peter, let me first congratulate you on becoming the master. This will be of great help now
that you seem to have decided to prolong your stay in Central and South America. You are going
to slow down your pace and take some rest from time to time. This is quite understandable. Your
initial plan to travel around the world in 6 months has been taken out of the window. For practical or financial reasons difficult to achieve, I assume? Flying from one place to another, again and
again with the current increasing fuel extras... not cheap I imagine? But then you are vague about
your further intentions. Are you planning to stay in Central and South America for another two months and then move on to the indisputable best place of the world... The United Kingdom of
Belg.....? Or am I completely wrong ? It is extremely difficult for those who never have been in
Central or South America to help you select the most beautiful places which deserve your visit.
But if I were you, I would pay a visit to Buenos Aires(it needs two to tango and lots of beef)and
of course Rio de Janeiro( Portuguese and not Spanish, more than10 million inhabitants, thus
more than the people living in our country, in a nutshell one big crazy city). Then Sao Paulo. The
city of Pele. Again you will have to fly to watch a match in Sao Paulo, I fear. But watch out, is the
comptition still going on ? 2 months is a long time, but if you want to see all those interesting
places it will soon become clear that you need much more time. Therefore a good selection is
certainly necessary. This weekend you will proceed with your travelling. Next place: Semuc
Champey. Never heard of this place, but this means nothing. I imagine there are many nice
places, we never heard of. Good luck Peter with your travelling and your choices.
Respect You wrote recently and I forgot to mention this in my latest posting:
"I rather travel a week more than go out every night." Respect Peter this is the spirit. I do hope
that your world tour will be prolonged with at least one week. Cada dinero cuenta! Soy feliz a
cada momento cuando puedo leer su noticias. Soy feliz que tu eres miembro
de mi familia.Quiero decir hasta la vista pero espero tambien que su viaje dure aun mucho tiempo. Con mis mejores deseos
gringo going out to eat gringas...nice Peter, thanks for enlightening us. Surviving an earth quake, knowledge of the Spanish language improving every minute, an unique classroom in the woods, and sorry Peter, an orderly bedroom with all necessary facilities, including TV, nice people all around, tasteful food, plenty of time to
prepare the continuation of an even more adventurous journey, all this makes the future to look more than bright. I also hope that you will find a lot of Spanish speaking locations on your way.
Again, I am wondering myself why I never thought of attempting to make such a world tour. I envy
you but at the same time I grant you these sensational feelings. It all looks so attractive what you
are doing. One day you will have to return to the United Kingdom of Belgium but fortunately this
return is still far away. You have still long enjoyable time to go. Thumbs up.
Well somewhere last week, and I am being totally serious now, I did notice something which made me think 'earthquake' immediately.
I don't recall when exactly but at a certain point while I was studying in my room, basically the entire room and probably the rest of the house shook from left to right, just for like 5 or 10 cm and it lasted little over a second.
I figured it was a small earthquake but since the people in the street continued their business as usual I figured as well that it would be nothing to worry about.
At the moment I do already speak some spanish and I do think it would be enough to continue my journey but at the same time I want to speak some proper Spanish and not just present tense Spanish.
I have something better than a dictionary … google translate :p
My bedroom? Hmm I am not sure I know what you are talking about here, I am not trying to impress anyone, and if that would have been my goal I am pretty sure I could come up with some better pictures than these ;p
And well, to me it is still quite orderly, one bed for sleeping one bed to put my stuff on and a desk.
The people over here are, to european standards, poor but they manage and live in reasonable conditions.
Normal families will live in proper houses, wont be hungry and will have their kids go to school and such.
Believe it or not, people in general tend to be friendly even if they are poor.
And ye it is a safe enough town, I wouldn't have stayed here this long if it hadn't been.
The dish that I had which they told me was a traditional dish were two bowls, one with a vegetable soup, one with rice and chicken, some dough rolls and some small side dishes.
And on other days we eat well anything from eggs, vegetables, chicken and sometimes other meat, beans.. lots of beans :) good ones though, lots of fruit in the mornings, sometimes pancakes and until now once a week 'friete'(they noticed I like those I think :p ) and every meal is always sided by tortillas.
Hmm since its sunday I have to find my own food, the place across the streets is serving something called gringas, I have no idea what that is but I think i'll have some of those :)
Cheers,
Peter.
Viva Guatemala, Viva Belgica After all these days without news it is a relief to read your latest posting. Apparently you
are not suffering from the combination... education and fulfilling a world tour. On the contrary, you
seem to enjoy every bit of your prolonged stay in San Pedro. Even considering for a while to
stay in San Pedro forever but then realizing that this would create some kind of panic at this
end of the world and therfore choose to continue your mission ? As a matter of fact you might
decide to move on already at the end of this week and then very typical but charming you leave
us completely in the dark with your following itinerary. Will it really be so much more adventurous?
I am anxious to read what you are exactly planning to do. How is the study of the Spanish language proceeding ? Do you feel yourself more comfortable to get engaged into a conversation
with the local people? Are you studying with an English/Spanish dictionary ? Did you feel that
earth quake in Costa Rica? I heard it on the radio but probably it wasn't felt in Guatemala. Your
bedroom ... well a bit tricky ? I suspect that you are trying to impress the women's association?
If not, I confess I am also not functioning so orderly. And then your classroom. If at the time when
I was young I could have learned in such a manner, I feel sure that I would have get much more
out of my study, but of course it is too late now. Pedro you should write us something about the
people overthere. Are they very poor or simply poor? Are they nevertheless happy ? Is it a
relatively safe or dangerous neighbourhood ? And about food. Are you eating many things, we
really don't know ? What is that Guatemalan national dish ? What about chili con carne ? Did
you eat this also ? It is almost noon here. What am I going to eat, for your dad's sake: pasta, meat-bread, peas and bearnaise sauce. I hope it can match up a little bit with what you are going to eat today. Que tengas suerte con su programa de estudios. Hasta la proxima vez Pedro.
