Let the show begin ... Still alive and kicking ;-) ...Indeed it's been a long while ago.....was a little worried about you all...especially coz of the strange weather situations overhere...hailstorms, heavy rainfalls, thunderstorms, we had it all ..
How about you peter, you having some better weather over there?
btw, did you taste the bbq'ed pig yet? And how is your 'beauty' doing?
I have to agree jacques, checking this blog became (a little) very much addictive...
so let's wait impatient on the next episode :-D ...
Let the fire-work begin The mother of all blog entries is expected soon. If there is any doubt in your mind, I can assure you we are ready for it. The expectations are high but we learned from the past that it is legitimate to look out for something really special...but before we get all this spectacular stuff on our computer there is an urgent need for WiFi. We are keeping our fingers crossed and who knows what will happen. Don't forget the popcorn and the soda. Cheers
@Jaqcues ...... You have noooo idea XD the last few days have been very entertaining and i guess thats good news for you since i have pretty much the mother of all blog entries ready on my laptop but i need WiFi to post it... so untill i encounter wireless i am afraid i cant do much more than say the next entry will be of the kind you want to be reading acompanied by some popcorn and soda ;P I would have posted sooner but when u read the entry u will understand why i didnt ...
are you having a walk in the park ? More than 10 days you haven't been on YOUR travel blog. What is going on? Isn't your computer
working anymore or don't you have facilities to make another entry? Each day here in Europe or
elsewhere, we open our computer in the hope to find some news but there isn't any. I must admit
there isn't always big news, certainly not for someone like you who always is keen on sending us
a cheerful entertaining report, but Peter there are also those little things, which we would like to learn. You are very good at describing yourself how you feel when being faced with unforeseen circumstances. Remember your experiences, when driving your motor bike from one cloud to another, sitting in the restaurant with the cops fully armed next to you, when being so thirsty during
the climb of a mountain in Guatamala, when eating " patatas fritas" together with that family in
San Pedro, that problem at the Guatamala border when you didn't have enough money, etc. I even dare to say that your personal experiences are interesting your readers more than anything else. We want to read how you cope with all these unexpected things and how, you are trying to find solutions to get yourself out of the problems. I am most eager to read this rather than anything else. This is a wrong expression because actually I love reading all your stuff. Not one single topic of any of your entries has been boring. I think I may say that the foregoing isn't a personal
feeling but a feeling we all share. Isn't it folks ?And Kim and André, how are you doing? Also a
bit frustrated because you are eager to react but the new entries keep you waiting. Patience is
a virtue and must be kept under control, but nevertheless it would be nice if you could give us some feedback. This would meet with our aspirations. We are indeed longing for your continuous reports. We are so used to your reports that we cannot miss them anymore. Cheers dear Peter or should I say Pieje.
@Papa Ok... I'll try to add some comments and pictures of food next time ;) And yes, the two days in Quito I went pretty much everywhere together with a girl from the hostal. She went the other way though so i am all by myself again now :(
cuy eating !!! hi peter,
i have been reading about ecuador and banos and i want to warn you: dont think its a good goulash or some other tasty dish!!! It seems that the speciality in ecuador is some kind of large guinea pig... beeing BBQ'd. Again im talking about food... because hasnt told us anything about it. So we have to find out ourselves on google... I prefer the BBQ'd pig: the sight must be alarming for a passengerby, but the smell is amazing.
Banos seems a good RnR-place to me. I wish (again) i could be there too. But watch out for the vulcano, the thermes can be more then 42°...
Another thing what is on my mind for several days: i did notice something in the way how you are taking pictures now. Your arms must be at least 3 m long now. Another picture (on facebook) tells methat you have a guardianangel (or 2) behind you or are that shadows standing close to you...? Who is going to tell us?
I hope some answers soon ,
Greets to all readers and to you too peter

151 days underway - motorbike counter currently standing at 2850 km When you take the time to reread some of Peter's entries from the beginning until to-day you
cann't but conclude that Peter's adventure is a great success. A minor problem arose only
seldom. A camera which fell, a surprise at the border in Guatamala but all this doesn't count,
when with our own eyes we can read all the pleasant stuff which he is experiencing. No really,
there is only one conclusion: this world trip full of question marks is a great success and he,
our hero, can be very proud of what he achieved. Meanwhile it looks as if he underwent a
metamorphose Under his skin a new personality took over. This metamorphose only could happen because he was completely cut off from his dearest(Sabine, André and his protective
sister Annelies) but also from his friends and colleagues. Every decision he had to take, was
his own decision and of nobody else. This metamorphose alone makes this world trip successful.
Annelies, if a were you, I shouldn't worry too much about him. Your brother has everything pretty much under control;-)
Turning now to Kim's latest posting and more particularly to her absolutely correct remark that as
many people as possible should start writing a few words to Peter in the near future and not wait until it is too late, I mean after the world trip is over. You are absolutely right Kim. Waste no time. We must go for it now. In the past Peter, Annelies and Kim have made clear to me,
that it isn't difficult anymore for young people to comprehend, speak and write English. Well, if this
is true why this young people isn't trying out how good they are in asking a question, making a
remark or giving some good advice? Young people pump up the jam:-D Make yourself proud
and give Peter every mental support you got. Kim I am pleased to read that you are aware
yourself of the progress you are making. You are growing. Carry on with what you are doing and
don't forget now and then to make us laugh/smile with something provocative, humourously. This
makes life much lighter to bear. I wish everybody a very nice and long weekend. Let us hear you.
@Kim The guatemala visa thing was indeed the biggest problem I had so far. Besides that I had some minor issues but nothing seriously, but I don't like talking about it because I fear I might jynx my luck ;D
@Jacques Well for various reasons I tend to take pictures in general of the nice buildings instead of the poorer housing. Among which well nice buildings in general are more pretty... and they tend to be not in ghetto's where whopping out a 200euro camera(which is enough money to last a person about a year on food or longer, who knows) seems well ethically difficult and well, I do tend to indeed not spend a whole lot of time in the poorer places as there simply isn't a whole lot to do there. My time in Cali wasn't difficult really, I just needed to wait a bit. And whoever said I don't dance? ;P I admit my skills are rather limited but I do dance since recently. And not just salsa ;) And oh the weather, well I haven't had any reasons to complain so far, I think in the past five months I had five rainy days or so. The weather has indeed been an absolute charm so far for which I thank whoever is responsible ;) RnR means(in this context at least: rest and relaxation) Cheers!
Chasing dreams ! First of all, congrats to Annelies, make a wonderfull day of it, with lots of joy and happiness :-)...
And yes, it's correct, english became like a second language to us, we are confrontated with it every single day.
It even have the advantage to keep in touch with pple all over the world...everybody know english, but only a few knows french..
I have to confess in the beginning i tried my cleanest english, not knowing what i was heading to..not knowing if you all could take my teasing and so on.. well i was very pleased to see that you all enjoying it :-D...So that made it very attractive for me to keep in touch...
Also following the adventure of Peter and the reactions about it of everybody over here is a joy to read.....this once more proves you don't have to be afraid to put a tiny message over here..you better do it now while Peter still chasing his dreams… you may after woods have some regret that you never took the chance. ;-)
What a relive to hear that Cali is the Capital of Salsa..otherwise i had to find a volunteer to join me with dancing :p ....
Peter, You once again took us into the story, like we were there with you .. it's all so real... but keeping back in mind...
‘after rain comes sunshine’...made us already suspecting what was going to happen next..but that it would be so phenomenal, magical...we couldn't image...to drain us more into the illusion of how the place is looking like, it would be great to see a picture from that lovely place too…
Now that you only have a pair of clean socks left to wear and nothing else..it’s time to become creative..isn’t it? :-p
After all these teasing , I also have an important question to ask , if i look to all your entries, i didn't seen any big issues yet.. only the misunderstanding with the visa case..
which you after all could solve quite easily.. was that the only thing which been so difficult or did there been more? But anyway, I guess you are quite inventive..so for every problem there is a solution.
as an oasis in the desert driving your "chou-chou" motor bike through the mountains, 3000 metres high in the Andes, with little oxygen in the air, fighting literally against the clouds, without really protecting clothes on, this tends to a real heroic achievement. Of course I am exaggerating/teasing. I think most of us perfectly understand the feelings, the pain which must have been yours, when you were driving
from one cloud into another. You must have said to yourself: why am I not wearing warmer clothes,
and my goodness when will the weather conditions become less hostile and then suddenly a
valley and a lot of sun shine. It's like heaven, and this is why I made that reference to the oasis
in the desert, but this comparison is not really correct, because that oasis is a misleading view,
while apparently that sun-covered valley wasn't. Peter, what struck me when watching your
pictures, is that the villages/cities are so neat/nice white painted houses/buildings, no poverty.
In the big cities there must be places, where it is more difficult to survive, but I imagine when
you visit a city most of the time you stay in the centre of those cities and not in the suburbs, where
you will find more traces of poor people, and sloppy areas. You have had a difficult time in Cali,
I understand and I am pleased to read that you succeeded in sorting out well your problems. You
didn't dance salsa in Cali although it is the capital of the salsa. I presume you aren't really a dancer. A pity for Cali and Buenos Aires. What about the weather. You never complain about
the rain. Does it only rain at night or only for a very short time, causing only very little hindrance.
If I understand you correctly you will use the following days for some rest and reflection. What
RnR means, I don't know. I wish you all the best in Quito.Don't forget your laundry and many
thanks for that very nice report about what you felt in that cloudy environment in the Andes.
Have a graet time. Greetz
Tears! Damn you Pe! That first part actually brought tears to my eyes! It makes me happy that you get to see this, makes me happy to see you this happy!
But then i saw "problems" what problems????
never mind, each generation is trying to create a better world for the next generation It's genetic. We love our children and we will do everything to ensure a better world for them.
This means that my generation isn't better than yours or any other. Sometimes we think that we are the best but that is simply not true. Life is a challenge and full of opportunities. Peter is a demonstration
of this theory. You are quite right Kim when you say that happiness is something you must create
yourself. You must strive to and struggle for a better world or life and not hope that luck comes
your way easily. Thanks for the compliment... that I am a good student.=) I am also giving you one. In my humble opinion there is a striking evolution in your postings. If you compare your first entries
with your latest, there is a tremendous difference. Now you write more freely, more fluently, more
pleasantly. And of course your usage of the English language joins that of Peter and Annelies.
I am keen to read these entries in their refreshing manner. Perhaps the opening of Peter's travel
blog has made it possible for you, me and others to improve our/ their narrative style. As long as
Peter stays away, we can continue this proces of improving our writing style. This doesn't
neccesarily mean Peter that you aren't allowed to return at a time of your own choice. Kim between you and me, I think that you are right about Cali. Congrats;-)
Annelies are you absolutely sure that Peter wil be back prior to June 2012 ? Perhaps it's true that we should have taken a cancellation insurance, which we actually did but for other reasons. But what about you ? Wouldn't it be wise to look out already for a second best man.
Under no circumstances, it would be wise to hand over the wedding rings to Peter, as long as, this
adventure is on-going. We all know that the travelling started 145 days ago but the end, my dear
friends, nobody knows. He himself, doesn't know when he will be back. As long as
everything is in order with his budget the travelling goes on, and therefore I fear that you shouldn't
be too sure about your plans that he will be standing next to you at the wedding in June 2012.
Presently the focus is on South-America and everything else has to make way. Annelies I hope
I am wrong but it's good to prepare yourself for the worst scenario, because so many things can
still happen. Of course you may have seen pictures, which Peter didn't include in his entries, but
are you sure that you have an indication where Peter is heading to.On one of the pictures, there is one road sign, showing that the way to Buenos Aires is bending to the right. But if you have this road sign in mind, you may be wrong. Unless I am mistaken again, Buenos Aires is his last
destination, but Buenos Aires isn't for to-morrow, but for much, much later...But perhaps, as I said,
you may have seen other pictures. Thanks for setting out the significance of the smileys. I now
understand the meaning but I believe this is a specific "language" for the youngsters. I don't see
older people including these smileys in their messages, or am I wrong again?
Finally I agree with you that it's much easier to-day to understand, write and read English than ever before, but I don't think that everybody automatically succeeds in grasping this language.
I also agree, that especially the youngsters, feel themselves more attracted to the English than to the French language. Annelies you show a lot of sisterly emotions towards your brother. It's nice
to read this and I am sure that also Peter will appreciate this but you cannot expect from a real adventurer that he gets weak and emotional, certainly not in public on this travel blog.
Don't feel any pity for that, you are totally right about it. it's almost a 5 month journey already...wowwww so long :-O...and it still looks like a way to go... seems he's really enjoying the freedom over there...
That makes me wondering if there is any goal (at the end) of the travelling or if he going all the way for the adventure?
About the capital of salsa, i guess he was speaking about the place "cali", isn't it? If not..than i have a huge problem..
.. i promised myself that i will learn to dance it... and oh my goodness, i can't dance :X..so please tell me that it's correct Peter :-)
Hakuna Matata .. means no worries, be happy ...(from the magnificant timon en pumba time)... anyway it's a nice quote to keep on going.
Jacques you are a good student i must say..smileys isn't any problem for you ... never thought you would use this one :-* ...great :-D:-*
You are right on the spot about india.. we trying to avoid the heat, and time is short..coz leaving job for much longer time
is not really doable at the moment....actually he's quite well settled already, and having everything he need, i guess ..
after all belgium pple not really bothering about it...coz of the new technologies being homesick is almost out of the world,
If they want to keep in contact with their dear ones, they just use Skype...a really handy thingy :-)
..btw hapiness is something pple makes themselves...so lets see what future brings...
Sounds like you having very good arguments about the generation..my respect for it....but lets see what time will bring our generation...
we will make it somehow..Till then, let's enjoy.
smileys Jacques, look at this :-)
Now tilt your head to the left, so hold it horizontally, and then imagine the : being eyes, the - being a nose, and the ) a smiling mouth, put them together and you get a smiley.
If you replace the ) by a D, it's a big grin.
Replace by a ( and it's a sad face :-(
There's many like it.
Try to figure out what this might mean: ... :-P
Now... my brother... I feel slightly privileged to see all your pics (Peter uploads them onto a site, I download them and safe them here to make sure he doesn't loose any of them) And I saw the traffic signs to the place you are at now... I feel sooooo tempted to tell but I won't.
It's amazing to see the beautiful things you are seeing with your own eyes, you are living them. We get to see them on a computer screen and are already so amazed by their beauty.
And for all those that worry, I can assure you Peter will be back by june 2012 since he has "best man duties" then. Haha! I'm sure he'll stay as long as he can so maybe you should take a cancelation insurance when you book your holiday... Hihi.
Jacques, about our use of the english language: I'm sure it's a generation thing. We grew up with english all around us. I must admit that my english is much better then my french, so it's more of my second language when french should be. We learn basics at school, but by watching TV, listening to music lyrics (and google'ing them), playing english games, chatting with people all around the world, and so on we expand our knowledge of the language day by day. We are confronted with this language a lot nowadays. And honestly, I never really put in much effort to learn, I'm sure Peter and Kim will say the same thing. When you are drenched in something enough you just take it in automatically.
Peter, I'm proud of you and already look forward to the day you come back home. Maybe it's silly to you but I do miss you. It's good to know you are doing well and I must stop myself to empathise too much or I'll go all emo on you.
I may not write a lot... I but I read every entry with joy and excitement. Keep it up brother, and be safe please.
Your silly sis,
Annelies.
to-day 143 days underway My dear friend, I suspect that when you started your mission, you never thought that it would take
you so long to reach the place(unknown)where you presently are hiding yourself. This is something else than a 3 weeks holiday(sorry Kim). And as far as we can see you are still enjoying every minute of your adventure. In your postings I didn't find one single signal from which could be gathered that you are missing something or that for one reason or another you would
like to come home. Real adventurer's blood, I would say. Irene recently was wondering whether
you still have the intention to come back to our little Kingdom ? You are holding your tongue,
leaving us with the guess work. Meanwhile I went to google. I googled for instance salsa, but didn't
find the capital of the salsa. But perhaps if you google at another place(another continent) than
you will find other answers. And yes Peter and Kim, I found the significance of the smileys
and finally I know what they mean. Do you know these emoticons from memory ? I guess not.
Peter we are now awaiting your further news. Not everything can be spectacular but surely also
the little things may be worthwhile reporrting.
Hakuna Matata, no idea what this means Kim. In reply to your answer, I must admit that Google
wasn't clear about the capital of the salsa. Kim I am very pleased to read that you have a
relation with a nice Indian guy,:-)). So you see, I like it very much and If you allow me I even would
go a step further.:-* I hope I did it right and that my smiley is in order. I hope that your friend feels
himself at home between the Belgians and that he isn't often homesick Hopefully he found himself
a nice job and a very nice steady relationship. Now I understand why you are so eager to visit
India. Not only for the country but also for your friend's family. I suspect that you prefer November,
in order to avoid the heat. Whatever I wish you a great time in India. 3 weeks is perhaps a bit
short Kim, but only the real adventurers can allow themselves to spend as much time as they
want. Shortly after World War II, there was the baby-booming. During the war it was not the
ideal time to get children. So immediately after the war, lots of children were born. And these
children were very lucky children, because after the war, people could enjoy a far better life than
ever before. A new world went open. Everything became possible. There was more luxury. People could go on holiday... Although I as born in 1943, almost at the end of the war I feel I make
part of this generation. We are the generation who made it. We have still to see, Kim and Peter,
what YOU will realise? What will you achieve for humanity? What are your goals? I am sure that
you will achieve many things, but reach the level of my generation, hmm, I have serious doubts.
Kim I promised myself, a very difficult exercise, not to fish anymore. I will not be asking anymore,
where are you now, where are you going to, when will you come back. André made it very clear.
Peter is presently unable to answer these questions. So I will not go sitting on my knees. That will
not help. Do you want my honest opinion? The main reason why he is already 143 days underway,
is that he is amusing himself, enjoying everything which comes his way. Simple as that. He will
try to prolong his adventure as long as he can, as long as he has enough money to move on.
I see no reason whatsoever why he should come home soon. Do you ?
Hakuna Matata ! I agree, the hopefully was required there...it's such a drooling weather over here today..
I already know the place were Peter was or maybe still is...but Jacques did you found it out already?
Did google helped you any further ? In case it's not...if you seeing something which look like an abbriviation..bend
your head over to the left and see, somebody is smiling at you :-D.
And Peter now that you are in the capital of salsa...are you sure you don't want to learn this dance?
Mexican food, ..good choice... in that case you must already have tryed out the Jalapeño poppers too... ;-)
Why the affinity with india, that's quite simple actually....my friend is from india, so that clears already a lot..
and that makes traveling there already a lot easier too...but anyway it stays an expenierce on itself.
Jacques you have to help me... i looked everywhere, but nowhere i found anything about pple born around the WO 2,
can you give me a clear reason why they should belong to it? till than, no confession :-p.
I indeed can understand your feelings, but isn't it the other way around? that you maybe want to be in that same nice place as him, isn't it ? ;-)
But i'm quite sure Peter is taking your feelings in count...you have to confess he's giving us hints..
straightway answering them would take away the fun...sensitive? in which kind of way? Maybe if you would kneel down on your knees and ask him very sweetly ...than, maybe than...
@Jacques I hope that it isn't getting too much for you, all that answering your readers' reactions. - oh no, not at all, I only do this when I have the time and feel like it so … ;) // But if we want to have a great time, we must go for this. Age doesn't matter at all. - I agree, age is nothing more than a number. // Always look on the bright side of life and hopefully the sky will become blue and the sun will start to shine(I said hopefully). Kim you are really trying to beat all of us. I must say I enjoy your humour and please go on trying to tease Peter and his readers. Do not have any pity or compassion. Even my wife is trying to be humourous but I made clear to her that next time she should look for another victim. - Why?? I can take you all on ;D // Peter I had forgotten about that horse in Cuba. So really you will never sit on an horse again ? What a pity. In the area where you presently are(which area really ?), there are a lot of horses and none of them will seduce you. - Seems unlikely, unless it promises me it wont run around in second gear... // You are now in the world's capital of the salsa. I have no idea which city this might be? If I am well informed the latino-american dance salsa originated from Cuba. Are you going back to Cuba ? I don't think so, but salsa is being danced everywhere at that end of the world and therefore once more I simply don't know, where you are at this moment. - You seem to lack a certain skill, one very useful and easy to learn. You can basically approach anyone from my generation or later and ask him to teach you how to google :D it opens the an infinite world of knowledge...(go to google.com and simply type in 'capital of salsa' and the answer will be right there... you might wanna google the word 'smiley' too while you are at it ;) ) // I have much respect for the way you picked up the English language. I think Kim and Annelies did the same. But I still think your usage of this language is younger more up-to-date than mine. Never mind I like reading all you write and that is all what matters. But Peter or Kim or Annelies can you explain exactly what it means at the end of a sentence :-D.. or :-x:O. All of you are using these abbreviations, but I don't understand, where they stand for. - they are called smileys // About that Golden Glory or Golden Generation, I have serious doubts about your theory Peter and Kim. Btw Kim I didn't know you were still so young. I have always been told that especially kids born during World War II, but also those born shortly thereafter, were very priveleged. Because I cannot be wrong, I am this time pretty sure that you are mistaken. Therefore I suggest that you pick up your historic books one more time, and I am sure that next time you will confess that you were wrong. - No … I am pretty sure the generation I was born in is the good one... ;) // Peter you added some pictures to your last entry. Didn't you even try with your toes how dangerous the sea was at that particular beach. You have plenty of guts, the blood of the adventurer. I am sure you were ready to take this risk but perhaps you will give us the answer in the next episode. - Who knows ;o // I am already looking forward to reading this. I also would like to hear from Kim why her affinity with India, and a lot of respect for her... travelling with local transport and staying in local homes. Also quite an experience, I think. But this isn't the first time and therefore I am sure that she will have no problem with this. Yes Kim I cannot withstand the feeling, that Peter is somewhere in a nice area without knowing where this place might be. - Well, → I ← know where it is :p // But do you think that Peter will take my feelings into account? Is he so sensitive ? I have my doubts.
@Kim Worst and best food :/ hmm that's a hard question. I don't think I had bad food yet so far, I always ate everything I ordered so... And best food, hmmmmmmmmmm I like mexican food alot(lotsa molten cheese with grilled chicken and beef). I think eating insects is more something you will find in africa and/or asia. I haven't encountered anything of the kind so far. I just found it amusing to find a sign saying B.A. so far away from it while it's is currently my final destination.
Peter and Kim are you sure that you are part of the golden generation ? I hope that it isn't getting too much for you, all that answering your readers' reactions. But if we want to have a great time, we must go for this. Age doesn't matter at all. Always look on the bright side of life and hopefully the sky will become blue and the sun will start to shine(I said

Oopsss :-D Ty, btw amazing landscape pict's 8-)..you must have hundreds of them by now i guess, pitty we are not able to see them all.
One picture in generally made me very hungry, and for that price only :-O
If we are talking about food, what is the worst and the best dish you ate so far? And did you tried any fried or dryed insect already?
Seems you almost there...hmmm nahhh.. you just kidding us,right?..but the question remains, where will you take us too :-?
Almost right.. '86. But since generations span several years, we'll just say 85 is also part of this illustrious generation ;) Btw i added some pics to my latest blog!
