Geo: 45.3001, -122.973This morning we went for a walk on Cannon Beach. There was a cool wind but the tide was out and there were many people walking, kids making sandcastles, people riding bikes. The Haystack and the other rock pillars look different in the morning light so Peter was keen to get some more photos. Fletcher found the soft sand hard going so after a short walk he perched on a large piece of driftwood and I joined him after a short stroll. We watched the gulls drinking from the shallow trickle of fresh water nearby and enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the morning.We checked out about 11am and drove into the main town. Geo: 44.069, -123.082On Monday Fletcher and Peter spent the day at the Coaches Conference which they found mainly interesting and informative. They had also taken our car back so I was "forced" to have a very lazy day of reading, updating my blog, playing computer games and generally chilling out. That night we returned to Sabai restaurant which has excellent Thai food. Peanut joined us for his last night in Eugene and once again it was very pleasant sitting outside in warm conditions with lovely food and tasty Oregon wine.After a slow morning on Tuesday we headed into the mountains and drove along the McKenzie River. Geo: 44.069, -123.082It was back to the track on Thursday morning for more action.It was qualifying in the Men's Pole Vault and our Aussie boy did well getting through to the final.We also watched heats of the 200m for both men and women and semifinals of the Men's 400m hurdles and heats for the women. Bryce Collins missed out on the final in the men's and Ella Solin made it through to the next round in the women's.At lunch time we found Glenwood, a restaurant recommended by Peter not far from the track. There we sat outside in a lovely garden setting and ordered while watching the squirrels and birds passing by. The food was fairly ordinary but we got talking to a Canadian couple at the next table. Geo: 44.069, -123.082On Sunday morning we again had a lovely breakfast courtesy of Tully and then while she went to church, Linda took us to the House of Myrtlewood where they make all sorts of articles from the foresaid Myrtlewood. This is one of the hardest woods and we watched a video about how it is cut and shaped into various objects. The shop had a variety of artefacts but I bought a lovely wooden lighthouse and a small plaque with a painting of a lighthouse as well. We then went to the Visitors' Centre where there was a memorial to Steve Prefontaine as well as interesting information about Oregon.We then stopped at a Railway museum which, though not open, gave us a view of a steam train and a couple of cabooses. Geo: 44.069, -123.082We embarked on this very long day at 6-15am when we headed to the airport in Adelaide. Flight to Sydney at 8am was fine having 3 seas for just us. In Sydney we had time for a great Chicken Laksa in the Qantas Lounge before boarding the plane for LA and leaving at 1-25pm. We were on the new A-380 upstairs in Economy but got the short straw in seats. I was in the middle of a row of four with two brothers next to me, Queenslanders in their late 20s who could only discuss drinking, Rugby, girl friends and hooning around in cars.
