We are finally back in Boquete and unhappy to have left Panama City. I loved it there. Would have liked to stay much longer and enjoyed hanging out with Meredith and Lena. Anyway, we will do some hiking to waterfalls today and then move on to Costa Rica either tomorrow or Friday and then from there to Nicaragua. Everyone says it is wonderful there and I cannot wait. Hard to believe that our trip is coming to an end soon. Only a week and a half left. ... read more

Ended up staying in Panama City for another day since there is so much to do here. Today we went to Panama Viejo which is the ruins of Panama from back in the 1500s. It rained most of the afternoon but we spent a good bit of time exploring the area of the city that we are staying in, Casco Viejo. It is very old world and the buildings are magnificent. We saw Noreyaga's, not spelled right, home before he was forced out by the US. Only a shell of a building due to the bombing but still can tell how grand it once was. Think we will stay in Panama City just one more day before heading north. Have lots more to do and see. ... read more

Made it to Panama City last night and what an ordeal. Yesterday we left Boquete around 11 am and went to the bus terminal in David to get our tickets to Panama City. Well everyone had the same idea and we waited in line for 2 hours just to purchase tickets. So, in the end, we did not leave for Panama City until 3pm. Eight hour bus ride that cost $12.60 each. The bus was nice, played movies, had a bathroom and was air conditioned. Took 8 hours and we were unsure what bus to take to the hostel. Finally found information at the bus station and were sent on our way. The information desk ended up giving us the wrong information and we went to the wrong side of the city. No taxi was willing ... read more

We are now in Boquete, which is about 4 and a half hours away from Bocas Del Toro. We decided to make a pit stop on our way to Panama City. It was a very long day of travel. We left Bocas Del Toro at 12:30 pm and traveled by boat to Changuinola which took an hour and $7 per person. Then made a bus for David which took 4 and a half hours riding through mountains. That was $8 each. Sometimes we were in the clouds and I told Macayla that we could actually say that we had our heads in the clouds. Anyway, then we took another hour bus ride ($1.50 each) to Boquete. We got in around 7:30 pm. We had to visit at least 5 hostels before we found one with available ... read more

We are in Bocas Del Toro, Panama. Finally broke down to pay for some internet here. It is $2 an hour. So expensive. We made it here yesterday around 4pm. Time changed when we came to Panama and now we are in the same time zone. We met a girl from Sacramento and her name is Elyse and she is traveling alone. We all got a room together yesterday and it was a dump. So bad!!!! We spent last evening checking around other places for so we could move elsewhere today. We found a place and moved there. I guess it is really hard to find something right now because the Costa Rica students are on two week break so everyone came here for vacation. The place we are in now is $22 each but very ... read more

Today we met up with our friend Neala to go to Playa Cocles. It is a town south of Puerto Viejo where there is a couple who run a wild animal rescue. They are originally biologists that worked at zoos but felt like working with the animals in the wild. So they came here. Anyway, they had a baby howler monkey, a baby opossum, a baby margay, a 2 year-old sloth, a Jesus Christ lizard, various snakes, and we got to see a red-eyed frog. It was the best $7 I ever spent. We spent a couple of hours there. Neala was not feeling well so we made our way back to Puerto Viejo and Macayla and I went to the beach to swim for about and hour before it began to rain. The days our ... read more

Monday evening we went to a little restaurant in Puerto Viejo and had the best food we have had since being in Cost Rica. We walked back to our cabinas Puerto Viejo just raving about it. We were staying at the most rustic cabinas ever. Lots of partying and drugs, I knew that we would not stay more than just that one night. Anyway, soon after we were settled in our room, started feeling really bad. I took some tums and fell asleep but was up many times very ill. Macayla started feeling sick too and I decided to go to a nicer place since we would be staying there all day, Cabinas Casa Verde. Yesterday was a wash. Ill all day in bed. This morning we did feel better but still very queasy and weak. ... read more

We have had some amazing adventures since my last entry. Friday night we were able to see the turtle lay hers eggs. It was a fantastic experience. The turtle was huge, around 4 feet long and 3 feet wide. She spent around 45 minutes digging her hole and then she lays her eggs in this hole. The guide said that each turtle lays around 100 to 125 eggs. The eggs are kind of soft and pliable and once the hole was filled to the brim, she spends another 45 minutes covering the whole. The top layer of eggs are no good and are only there to keep the real eggs safe. One huge highlight of our trip so far. The next morning, Saturday, we left Tortuguero at 10AM and boarded a boat for a four hour ... read more

We are still in Tortuguero. Our turtle tour was a bust, only got to see the turtle leaving the beach after eggs were laid. So, the guide is taking us again tonight since she messed the tour up last night. That is okay, we have another day in paradise. Anyway, the internet here is very slow. Will upload photos again when we get to our next destination. I have added a few other photos to yesterdays entry, check them out. ... read more

Hello. We made a last minute decision yesterday and decided to head to the northern Caribbean coast. We are on a little island called Tortuguero. We took a 2 hour bus ride to Ciari from San Jose, then we went to Pavona on another bus which was almost 2 hours. Rain all the way and really bad roads. We were bouncing the whole way. Once in Pavona, we waited about 2 hours for a boat to take us to Tortuguero. The boat ride was about one and a half hours in the rain and the dark. I guess there are crocodiles and caymans but we could not see much. Found a hostel that was around $10 per person so we took it. I guess because it is an island and very remote, it costs a little ... read more
