Got a late start today and could not get the bus to the Parque Nacional Volcan Poas. So, we were stuck on finding more to do here in San Jose. There is not much. We decided on a self-guided tour of the city of San Jose. We started at Teatro Nacional which is a national theater housed in a building built in 1897. This theater has some pretty impressive pieces of art. Then we went to a cathedral which happened to be holding mass at the time so we went in and looked from a distance. We came across the Parque Central that had many statues of bulls painted in different ways. Not unlike the city of Virginia Beach that has many statues of mermaids. I was amused by several of them as you can probably ... read more

Went to the butterfly garder today. Took taxi at $2 because the hostel said it was too far to walk. We paid $11 total to get in and we saw the most amazing butterflies I have ever seen. Big, electric blue ones and all other types and colors too. Will upload pictures soon, not sure if photos will do them justice. There was a trail outside of the enclosed gardens to view more butterflies and was very muddy and lots of vegetation. Macayla was freaking out. Good morning! We have arrived. The flight went smoothly and we got into Costa Rica at 5:35 am. Customs and immigration was not too long after I realized that I dropped Macayla's passport on the plane and had to go fetch it. The drive to San Jose from the airport was interesting, we noticed that it is very dirty in some places and we even got see a man drop his pants to use the 'toilet' in broad daylight. Fun! The hostel Pangea is pretty nice but we cannot check-in until 2 pm so we are able to use computers, pool, etc. until then. Very tired, did not sleep well on plane so will rest by the pool for awhile. Oh by the way, no free phone calls, false advertising on their part. Will up load ... read more

Spent first full day in Denver at the aquarium and looking around downtown. It was hard to pull Macayla away from the reptile petting zoo outside of the aquarium. She was able to handle all snakes and could pick them as she pleased. Very surprising that it was allowed but the guy running the petting zoo said he had raised all the snakes by hand since they were babies and they were all very friendly. We also went to the Cherry Creek arts festival and spent a lot of time browsing, watched an artisitc performance and ate Greek food. Had a good day for the most part.... read more
