After breakfast, we took the bus into Musselbrugh to explore and buy some post cards with pictures of Musselbrugh if they exist. I also wanted to take some pictures of the Brunton Theater. Our exploration started at the theater and then we walked down high street toward the city hall and took pictures along the way. Musselbrugh is a pretty little town/suburb of Edinbrugh, population, 22,000+. It was quite impressive to see it in the daylight and without rain. A nice sunny morning. I had been told by the usher at the theater that there were some gift/card shops near city hall that had postcards of Musselbrugh. We started asking people in that area, and quickly found the shop. Then we had a pleasant conversation with the owner of the shop. She told us about getting ... read more

This morning, we knew our closing performance of "Shakespeare Shattered" was at 12:00 noon to 2:00. So after breakfast, we rested and took the bus to Pilrig in time for the noon performance. Our cast did a very good job and had a good solid closing performance. I did not fall asleep!! I think it was their best performance. The review we got said "Worth Watching" and gave us 3 stars!! Then we watched "Book of Days" and unfortunately, I did fall asleep during this show. Back out on the street, it started to rain so we got out our umbrellas and jackets. We were searching for the correct bus stop and it started to really RAIN! Then a very gusty wind came up and made it hard to keep your umbrella straight! You had to ... read more

Today we went to see the AM show at Pilrig Studio "Native American Tales". The costumes, make up, and choreography were good but I expected more storytelling than they did so it was somewhat of a disappointment. John and I had our early lunch at Victoria's and saw the 3rd performance of Shakespeare Shattered. Then, had our late lunch/dinner at La Favoritta. Both restaurants were in the Pilrig district and were owned by brother and sister. We went back to QMU and did a much needed wash (laundry drying all over my room) and rested. In the evening, we, as a group, left on the train to go to late night performance (started at 10:55 PM) of SHOW STOPPERS. It was a good FUN show - totally improvised musical - the cast and crew did a ... read more

Shakespeare Shattered performed at 10:00 this morning. Not quite as good as yesterday - second performance let down - Share Square to come. After the performance, John and I went from Pilrig to see the Britannia at the waterfront. The Britannia is the retired HMY and is anchored at the waterfront as an attraction raising money for charity. I did not have my camera with me, so no pictures. There is a whole shopping mall/center that you have to walk through to get to the Britannia so it is a double attraction. We had lunch in the Queen's tea room on board and really enjoyed it. The food was excellent (expensive) and you could pretend you were an invited guest of the Queen. Then we took the Audio tour of the ship and continued our fantasy ... read more

After breakfast we rode the bus to Pilrig Studio to see "Rosencrance and Guilenstern are Dead". Others in our group had previously told us this was a good production to see. We enjoyed it and they were right, it was a good performance. The costumes were excellent in detail considering the "Travel factor". This was a complicated play to follow but the actors, from the Meadows School in Nevada, did a good job with complicated lines. Our production of "Shakespeare Shattered" opened next. All 6 of the cast members did a good job and opened well. Only about half an audience was there but they laughed and responded. A good beginning. We tried to see "Musical of Musicals (the Musical)" next but there were not enough seats. Tickets had sold out. I hope that happens to ... read more

Our full day of sight seeing on the Coach today was enjoyable (sitting). Our first stop was the town of Aberfoyle where the Scottish Wool Mill shop does a brisk business. I bought 2 wool plad scarves for myself. Our guide on the coach gave us lots of historic background while we viewed scenery that was great. We ate our box lunches at lovely senic David Marshall Park. A cottage there (perhaps the caretaker's ?) had a beautiful garden that was carefully tended. I couldn't resist taking some pictures. Our next stop was Stirling - the town and the castle. The Castle was very impressive and we could see how, this was once a walled community (in Medieval times) Robert the Bruce was the Scottish king who led the Scots to victory in the battle for ... read more

Today, we went in to Edinbrugh on the bus straight to St. Mary's Cathedral. It was so nice to walk down the street and be the only ones walking on the sidewalk (Sunday morning) after the crowds of yesterday. We arrived at St. Mary's an hour before the service started, so we had plenty of time to explore the beautiful Cathedral and I took lots of pictures. Then we attended the 10:30 Festival Eucharist. it was a nice service with a big procession with insence and choral/organ music. After church we had lunch at Ryans Bar. John couldn't have a beer because of "blue laws" that say alcohol can't be served before 12:30 on Sunday. But we had a good lunch anyway. Then we went to "Rachmaninov after lunch"at a recital at 100 Princess street. The ... read more

Arose at 6:30 am. I learned how to set the alarm clock on my cell phone, after all this time - so I can awake in my cell/room without having to depend on John to knock on my door. Yea! It was raining this morning, John and I went in to Edinbrugh on the bus (30). THINGS I HAVE LEARNED ON THIS LEARNING CURVE SO FAR: 1. how to use alarm clock on cell phone 2. black shoes fit my feet much better for walking than my biege ones - less painful, more comfortable 3. Back pack is much easier to take into city than purse. can carry umbrella, jacket, water bottle , camera, wallet ID, money, food & snacks, notebook or papers, pen, lip stick - all at once and both hands are free when ... read more

RAINED all day so we used John's umbrella and got wet anyway. I had left my umbrella behind in the rush after breakfast to make the train. What's a little rain to Northwesterners? We went to see "Shakespeare for Breakfast". Had to walk from the train to buy tickets and then to the venue. There were coissants on each chair for the audience. Performance was good - 6 college age actors - a mixture of Shakespeare scenes - audience had fun. John and I had lunch in pub called Au Bar - good food. After lunch we saw Ritter, Dene, & Voss - this play was long and we didn't enjoy it. Three actors did a good job with long speeches but plot was complicated, hard to follow and room was uncomfortable hot. We rode the ... read more

Awake at 4:00 am, down to lobby with luggage at 5:00 am! On the coach with "box breakfast" and we're off to Kings Cross Station. Had to WAIT to board our train (for this we arose at 4:00 am???) Now we're riding a fast train through the "country" on our way to Edinbrugh. At least we are SITTING not walking (myfeet can rest). We arrive at Waverly train station and are met by Sylvia/guide and board a coach for a panoramic tour of Edinbrugh. Old City vs. New City, Edinbrugh Castle ........ We learned a lot about the City. I am tired and start to fall asleep ZZZZZZZZ. Sylvia took us to the Edinbrugh Botanical Gardens for a break. John and I bought a sandwich at a cafe there. Then we sat on a bench (in ... read more
