We moved on to Monterey, CA and went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. This is a beautiful aquarium built right at the edge of the bay with one huge three story tank in the middle. The viewing areas on each of the three floors offer different views of sea life. There are many other smaller tanks and areas that feature jelly fish, sea horses, starfish, anemoies, sharks, and smaller fish. The lobby areas on two floors have replicas of the Killer Whales and the Grey Whales hanging from the ceiling. They are very impressive. We had a lovely sunny lunch at the Aquarium restaurant right on the waterfront watching the sea birds on the rocks.... read more

Petaluma, CA is where John's brother, Charlie, and his wife, Perry, live. We had a nice relaxing visit with "The Other Freemans" and the petaluma hills were actually GREEN. The hills are usually brown in most of Califronia when we have visited later in the summer. It was interesting to learn about the history of The Petaluma Adobe and Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo.... read more

Our next stop was Ashland, Oregon where we stayed for three days, saw four plays, and tried a "new" restaurant. We could see snow up in the hills from our bedroom window at the B&B where we stayed. It was cold outside and a jacket was required. We enjoyed productions of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, Hamlet, and Pride and Prejudice.... read more

Our first stop going south was Eugene (where the Hicks family lives) We had a week of resident grandparenting and enjoyed Dana, (age 5) and Josie (3.5). We did the usual "cook and bottle washer" routine , got to hear about what's happening in K.garden, and got updated on the latest Star Wars and Lego events. We waved "hello -goodbye" to Sara & Wade as they fulfilled their busy school, work, rehearsal, meeting schedule. ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » Scotland » Lanarkshire » Glasgow August 23rd 2009

Early (5:30 am) start we load luggage on to coach. Ride to Glasgow, get off coach, get baggage, and get in long disorganized line. From that moment till we we were settled in our seats on the airplane - I HURT! Carrying baggage, walking long distances, and standing in long line made the aching worse! Once the airplane was in the air I fell asleep - blessedly. I woke up for dinner on the plane and was told I would have a "diabetic" meal. "I didn't request it." I said to the stewardess. She said "That's OK." So I had a "diabetic" meal that was actually good - pot roast (trimmed of fat), vegies , new potatoes, sm salad and fruit cup. - for once "diabetic" turned out to be good for me - better than ... read more
