First order of business is Shakespeare's Globe Theater which is short one block walk from our Bankside House. We enjoyed the exibition and tour of the Theater. Next we went to the pier and took the clipper ship down the Thames to the London Bridge and the Tower of Londin. We toured the Tower (really like a midevil city), viewed the Crown Jewels, and had lunch at the Armory - Cafe inside the Tower. We reboarded the clipper ship to cruise back to Bankside pier. I still had sore feet and was tired so I went back to my room and rested (we took a nap). Next we got ready to go see "Blood Brothers" at the Phoenix Theater. We met the Fringe Group an took "the Tube" to the west end theater district. We surfaced ... read more

Our flight from Portland was delayed long enough to make us almost miss connections in Philadelphia. We needed to walk from C wing to A wing. Even with "people movers" it was a long way and we arrived at the gate for London flight just in time. The London flight was long and I didn't sleep much - mostly read. At last we arrive at Gatwick Airport and a blue badge guide collects us on to a coach for a whirlwind tour of London. Along the "motor way" we go to all the major sights of London for a quick overview and a few picture stops. Changing of the horse Guard at Buckingham Palace, Tower of London & London Bridge, Prince Albert Hall and Memorial in Kensington Park, St. Paul's Cathedral, and stop at Covent Garden ... read more

Today's the day! We had "dress" rehearsal this morning and had to spend a lot of time getting our number in line (45) and the row (5) and lining up in order. (Everything I needed to know I learned in Kindergarden.) Then we filed up Carnegie's flights of stairs and into the "green" room to wait. This waiting was the hardest part of the concert! Then we filed down stairs to the stage and carefully stepped, one by one, on to the risers. The rehearsal was mostly for Anthony and the orchestra, but it was good for us to see how we sounded with the orchestra. Next was lunch at a near by restaurant and back to the "green" room to wait and line up for the concert. ACH! At last our turn came for us ... read more

Today we had an afternoon rehearsal with Anthony Giles and again worked hard to polish and refine the Requiem. During the morning, John scurried around and got tickets for us to attend an Opera at the MET tonight! Yes they cost an arm and a leg at the last minute! Another couple from our group already had tickets and were planning to have dinner at the Grand Tier Restaurant in the opera house, so we joined them. The dinner we had was fab, and the performance of La Sonnambula was equally Fab. The Soprano and Tenor in the production sounded wonderful. We can now say that we have seen an Opera at the MET!! On the way back to the hotel in a taxi we enjoyed the many NYC lights along the way.... read more

Today we started our day with a rehearsal in the hotel's ballroom with Anthony Giles our conductor. In this way we began to learn about Mr Giles, musically. He was very precise about how we were to sing Faure's Requium. He would stop and correct us as far as pitch, phrasing, breathing, dynamics, pronunciation ( we were singing in Latin), and paying attention to the director. Then he would have us repeat the line as many times as necessary to get it right. He would also use his own voice to demonstrate, so we got to hear how beautiful and well trained his singing voice is. We all worked hard through the rehearsal (3 hrs) and came away with remarks such as "That was fun" and "I love getting to rehearse long enough to correct ... read more

John and I drove up to Seattle yesterday (March 25th) and parked our car at a friend's house in Dash Point. Then David picked us up and drove us to the Red Lion Inn at the airport where we checked in for the night. The three of us (John, David, and I) then went out to dinner at the 13 Coins restaurant. We enjoyed having the time to visit with David, our son, who lives in West Seattle. Early the next morning, at Sea Tac Airport, Brian Mitchell and the school bus load of Mark Morris singers plus a few other singers, who got up extra early to leave from Longview, arrived. We all gathered at the American Airlines area to get tickets, check in baggage, and go through security. Our group consisted of Brian ... read more

Our Field trip today started with the Diamond Head lighthouse which we saw from our coach. We drove on to Hanauma Bay Lookout. This is a beautiful bay and beach. One must pay a fee to go down to the beach because the Choral Reef was being damaged and destroyed by too many people. When the specified number of people have paid the fee, the beach is closed for the day. I can see why. The beach is so attractive for swimming. Susan says often there is a line to get into the beach, but when she was a girl, she often snorkeled here. We continued along the windward coast to the North Shore. These beaches are famous for BIG waves - perfect for surffing. This is surfer country and has beautiful scenery. We stoped at ... read more
