After breakfast, we took the bus into Musselbrugh to explore and buy some post cards with pictures of Musselbrugh if they exist. I also wanted to take some pictures of the Brunton Theater. Our exploration started at the theater and then we walked down high street toward the city hall and took pictures along the way. Musselbrugh is a pretty little town/suburb of Edinbrugh, population, 22,000+. It was quite impressive to see it in the daylight and without rain. A nice sunny morning.
I had been told by the usher at the theater that there were some gift/card shops near city hall that had postcards of Musselbrugh. We started asking people in that area, and quickly found the shop.
Then we had a pleasant conversation with the owner of the shop. She told us about getting permission from the photograph owner to be able to use his pictures of Musselbrugh streets in the 1800's for postcards. She had also taken some photos of her own to use for postcards. Then she said she wasn't sure the postcards would sell, but visitors like us seemed to always show up to buy them. Her shop is the only one who has
Musselbrugh postcards.
We wandered around a bit longer and noticed the nice park along the river Esk's bank and many cafes / restaurants in Musselbrugh. Then we took the bus back to QMU and had lunch at the dinning hall. (our last college cafeteria meal). We went back to our rooms and promptly fell asleep for the afternoon nap.
John woke me up at 3:00 and said we had 12 minutes to make the train into Edinbrugh or wait for another hour. I quickly put on my shoes and, after John rescuing my forgotten glases, we walked fast to the train platform. We took the train/bus to the U of E district and bought U of E T-shirts for Sara and Wade.
Then we wandered around the very crowded streets, Royal Mile/ High streets, down from the Castle. Even more people than last night! So we window shopped some and started looking for a new restaurant for our Anniversary dinner. Yes today is our 39th wedding anniversary. John had done some research and had several he wanted to check out. I rested, sitting on every bench and stairs I could along the way.
John found the
Sept restaurant and they said they could seat us. They had reservations for later in the evening, so the restaurant was empty. We were early, compared to european time to dine. We had a lovely meal in an uncrowded restaurant with relative chaos going on outside on the street (street performers and audience). I had delicious scottish salmon and Jonh had angus steak with french onion soup to start off. Relaxing and enjoyable. A good celebration!
After dinner we walked downhill to Waverly station and took the train back to QMU. We PACKED and went to bed. We have a very early call in the morning to load luggage, board the coach, drive to Glasglow and take flight to USA - No longer Scotland Bound, We're bound for Home - I'm ready to go.
