Ok so we ended up getting to bed at around 1am BUT there’s a good reason! A few good reasons! Firstly the forecast said it would be snowing at 11pm so we waited up for that (didn’t happen), then I got a call from my mother who is currently travelling around Greece, THEN we realised we had to pack before we went to sleep otherwise we’d have to wake up super early, and DURING packing Adam threw up. So we had about 5 hours sleep. Which is fine. So fine. We left the apartment at about 6:45am, when it was pretty much pitch black outside (although not so dark that we couldn’t see cars covered in snow- so it did happen!) and headed to the train station to go back to the airport. It was really ... read more

What a day!! We started off by accidentally sleeping in. Not surprising considering we got to bed so late after watching the golden globes. At about 9am I decided I had to get up otherwise I never would, so while Adam slept I figured out how to use the filtered coffee machine. Rather, I tried and failed to figure out how to use the coffee machine. I even looked up YouTube tutorials and everything, it’s now 12 hours later and I still don’t know how to do it. But no matter. We finally headed out for the day around 10:30am and headed straight to a place called (ahem, excuse my language please grandparents) Biscuit Bitch. It is the coolest breakfast chain I have ever been to. There was a long line, but I had put this ... read more

This morning we aimed to wake up at 7am, buuut we may have accidentally fallen back asleep until about 8am when we heard a knock at the door with our breakfast! We had filled out an order form the night before, and the basket outside was full of bagels, fruit, condiments, coffee for me, and hot chocolate for Adam. We had breakfast in bed and then slowwwwwly got ready to leave. We only booked the one night in San Francisco due to the price, so today we travelled all the way back to the airport, and hopped on yet another flight, this time to Seattle. Don’t get me wrong, I did like San Fran. It had a strong Melbourne vibe except more snazzy, and it’s one of the least cold places we’ll go. But I can’t ... read more

Pre warning- this first blog is for the 10th of January, which lasted 43 hours for us, so it’s a little long. Honestly, I kept looking at the date and going, “really? It’s STILL the 10th of January?”. So, you’ve been warned. We left Brisbane at 11am and the 13 hour flight to LAX was actually not too bad. We thought we’d made it through the entire journey without any issues until 2 hours before landing the little girl in front of us threw up her strawberry yoghurt- you can imagine the smell. But other than that it was a pretty good flight, as far as long haul goes. Arrived safely in LAX at 7am (still the 10th of January, we went back 4 hours in time), and then went through border security which was terrifying ... read more

Today was our last full day of the trip. Once again we slept in and left the house at midday, but this time we headed straight to the grocery store instead of to a restaurant. We were off to have a picnic in Vondelpark! On the way we found a cute little doughnut shop so we got a few treats from here, then at the grocery store we filled the bags with rolls, cheese and biscuits, grapes, strawberries, water, chips, and stroopwafels (Dutch treats). We headed off to Vondelpark and had a lovely few hours eating and playing cards and experiencing all the sounds and smells of Vondelpark (pigeons cooing and marijuana, respectively). After this we headed to the iAmsterdam sign, where we climbed on top of it and got some awesome photos! It wasn’t very ... read more

Had another big sleep in after another late night! This actually has more perks than disadvantages: we get enough sleep, we end up staying out later til it actually gets dark, and the bnb we’re in doesn’t have a kitchen so we have to eat all our food out, and by leaving the house at midday we only have to buy lunch and dinner! Another restaurant we’d been looking at for a while was Mook, a cute little pancake place. So we headed there and received breakfast at 12:45pm! My pancakes were topped with blueberries, strawberries, bananas and maple syrup, and Trudi’s with peanut butter, chocolate and blackberries. We then headed out to see what the markets of Amsterdam are like! We headed to Waterlooplein, where we got some more souvenirs and I bought some pants ... read more

Today was officially our first day in Amsterdam. We decided that since Amsterdam is an incredibly small city, and we’re only here for 3-4 days, and it’s our last city for the trip, that we would just take this time to chill out. Have a really nice relaxing few days in Amsterdam before heading home, and not pressure ourselves to do too much. Today was the perfect day to start that, since because of our late night last night we slept in until 10am! We left the bnb at 12 and headed straight to brunch- The Avocado Show. This is a restaurant that we have been so excited to go to since before we even added Amsterdam to our trip. It’s basically a restaurant based on avocado- every single item on the menu is avocado based. ... read more

Short blog here to let readers take a break from the massive ones recently. Had a great first day in Amsterdam! Well, the afternoon was great. We had another day of sitting in Maccas all morning waiting for check in. We left Brussels at 7:50am, on a train that took almost two hours to get to Amsterdam. Check in was at 2pm, and by the time we’d gotten off the train and walked all the way to a maccas close to the air bnb, it was only 10:30am. So, we played cards and watched some videos and gawked at the lady standing outside the toilet asking people for 50 cents to use it for almost three hours. We left at 1:30pm and were able to check in straight away. We spent about half an hour settling ... read more

I. LOVE. BRUSSELS. It’s pretty much just Paris but specifically for young people. The copious amounts of Belgian beer and chocolate is balanced by the numerous organic restaurants and the people are so friendly!! We left our horrendous Airbnb in Montmartre (not sure if I mentioned all the issues with it, it’s too late now but it was not a great stay) at 6:50am, and walked all the way to Gare du Nord. Once there we had an hour before the train arrived (we left early to avoid problems that we seem to keep having with trains!), so we decided to actually have breakfast. We got pain au chocolats (our last one for a long time) and I also grabbed a peach smoothie. The train was only an hour and a half long, and after attempting ... read more

Had our last day in France today, I have loved being here but I won’t be as sad to leave it as I was England and Scotland. I think this is probably due to the amount of work it takes to have conversations with people and navigate our way around! Because we’ve had to wake up super early for the past couple of days, and have had some pretty late nights, we decided not to set an alarm today and sleep in. We also decided that for our last day in this beautiful country we’d stop being tourists and do as the locals do. So, we left the bnb at midday and headed to Sacré Coeur Cathedral, to see how the locals pray. On the way up we stopped into a few cute little stores to ... read more
